Plot Overview

In the world of Linguardia, the nations of Rikalia and Dorent are the reigning powers. Although both leaders have been at peace for centuries, a dark cloud is on the horizon. King Richard, leader of the Rikalian Empire, has recently lost his wife and daughter to a pack of demons. Now, his mind twisted from grief, Richard is on a quest for domination. His plan: to harness the power of the six legendary crystals, which, according to scriptures, will bestow the wielder with unimaginable powers if brought together. With Richard on a path of destruction to collect the crystals, war seems inevitable.

Players take control of Epoch Lander, Captain of Richard's Dragon Knights, an elite force within the Rikalian Empire. However, when Epoch begins questioning the morals behind Richard's actions, he is arrested for treason and sentenced to death. With his head full of unanswered questions, Epoch must decide whether to accept his fate or fight for what he believes to be the greater good: even if it means fighting alone.

Soundtrack Complete!

Jose has just finished the last two songs of the soundtrack, bringing the OST to a grand total of 36 songs. With those final two, the Forever's End soundtrack is now complete! I really have to thank Jose for all the hard work he put into these songs. They all sound fantastic, and I can't wait to release the next episode with them implemented. Great job, bro!

Do know though, there are a few songs that will be included with the game that aren't custom. Not many, but a few, mainly because some of my cutscenes were already built around these songs. However, all of the ones included on this gamepage are the custom ones composed by Jose.

With the soundtrack complete, I thought I'd list out a few of my personal favorites. If you have any favorites, please comment and show Jose some love.

Traveling - Overworld Theme

The Reprieve

Dangerous Wilderness

The Death Knight - Marcellus' Theme

Spiritualization

Journeying Forward

Cutting a Path

In the Heat of Battle - Boss Theme 2

A Dying Planet's Last Breath

Pressing Download gave me a giddy feeling~
Very early impressions--impeccable atmosphere, surprisingly challenging battles, but the main character's internal monologues are a little grating. I understand that he's supposed to be "different" from the rest, but couldn't you convey that through his actions rather than by explicitly stating his thoughts?

Granted, this game did make me feel like a terrible person for going through with the events in the first town (though I made sure not to take the money from the woman's drawer) so there is that. Overall, despite the present cliches mentioned by others (magical crystals, advisers with their own own agenda, captain who joins the forces of good, etc.) this looks pretty damn solid so far. I'll give it a couple more hours before I judge for real, but so far this is really promising.

I personally *loved* his internal thoughts, gives you a real insight into the mind of the character you are playing, and I really liked that.

I haven't played all the way through, so not sure how far it goes.
Great, great job though, NicoB.
Not sure what's up with... uh.. Maybe Marcellus' head in the intro, basicaly a corner of his head is transparent or something. At least it was for me haha.
Heh, good game so far. I decided to test this myself, and already found a found few bugs (I'm where you can disguise yourself). I figure you guys don't want to look at a wall of bugs though, so I pm'd nicob my findings. All in all, the story is pretty good so far, and the game is fairly enjoyable. Enemies have yet to give me trouble, and I even killed the dragon :). I'll probably comment again after I beat the chapter.
First Impressions: Great Game!

I just got off from re-doing the whole Manor 4 times, because of grinding up to get respect levels and I always missed one, until I finally figured out it was a bug... Damn Threadless didn't show up in inventory. *eyebrow twitch*
You already noted about the sound bug, which is unfortunate, but not the end of the world.

demonlord mentioned PMing you a buglist, so I won't do the same. I might do my own list when I do a thorough 2nd playthrough~

I gotta say though, applaud to you all for making this masterpiece :)
Hey thanks, Yuna! I just discovered that bug when capturing the Threadless in Lyonell. There's another battle in that area that has two Threadless and an Anomaly. Capturing the Threadless there will work.

Omg! You are right, how peculiar. So glad I kept that save~
Yeah, sorry about that. Just a small goof-up on my part. Thanks for pointing it out though!
I appreciate that finding myself. I captured a threadless earlier, but I didn't check to see if it was in my inventory. I would of ended up finding out about it later when I went to turn them in, but by then I would of forgotten what threadless it was. It helped us both out.

Anyways, expect a pm with more bugs soon. I've already got 5 new ones, but I'm currently still playing the game.
Finished Lee's Scenario at the split. I actually like Lee's story the best so far; the Frederick mystery on Epoch's side is pretty intriguing, but Lee and all his party members have the coolest skillsets! I thought it was hilarious that Cyrus's theme was Number One from Bleach, but since Cyrus is a drunken swordsman it was just over the top enough to work. I mean, drunken swordsman. Seriously!

Anyway, I would venture to say that this game comes the closest of any RPG Maker game I've played to capturing the feel of a Final Fantasy game. The best point of comparison I think is Everlong, except for the fact that Forever's End's story is frankly more interesting, despite the cliches. I think it helps that the mysteries seeded throughout are genuinely interesting, and the villains suitably disturbing. Marcellus (despite his connections to the backstory) is a little evil-advisor bland so far, but the Hooded Man is pretty cool and Elijir's minions are genuinely terrifying.

So yeah--the dialogue can be a little telly (I still think you could use fewer monologues) and the flash-stepping in the battle sequences is a slightly obnoxious visual shortcut (though to be fair flash-stepping in almost everything is a slightly obnoxious visual shortcut) but so far this is one of the most fleshed-out games I've played on the site. Definitely thinking of reviewing this either when I finish the demo or when the whole game is completed.

Hey thanks man! Yeah, a review would definitely be more useful before I released the game. That way, I can fix the problems before releasing the full game.

I downloaded this the day it came out. I lasted fifteen minutes. I have not posted until now because I didn't want to be too much a bitch, but this is a horrible game.

My suggestions for improving the first fifteen minutes:
1) Cut out 80% of the text boxes. The no-music, white-text-on-black intro monologue is dreadful and can be summarized with "FATE FATE FATE DESTINY BORING SUB-STANDARD JRPG TRIPE." The dialogue in the castle is FF4, with ~feeling~ (and it sucks). Cut the chatter down to at least half its length, and the intro to three text boxes

2) Use the amazing portraits of Rudras characters that booble did without you paying her or whatever. All I saw was some disgusting, terrible quality 48x48 resize of great art (even if it is of a blue-haired Rostam) in the buggy 2k3 hero name entry screen. This is like slapping booble in the face, then murdering her parents

3) Stop being sexist. The only female character in the first fifteen minutes is a maid complaining about how men are pigs. There are references to 2-3 dead women in the time I played; men are strong and survivors, women are meant to die off. Also, you use the term "like a sissy little girl." Please enter the 21st century, where we try not to be horrible people

4) Speed up the saturation fades when introducing tutorials. They're painful. Also, don't say "there are two types of chests, red and blue" and then have a black chest two screens away (Chrono Trigger rip-off aside)

5) RICHARD, MARCELLUS AND ARCHIMEDES lulz

6) Cut out 80% of the text in the game. It sucks. Brevity would be better for you (this is a repeat. It's important)

7) Get rid of that putrid ochre tint. Don't say that the "Blue-Haired Man" is talking when everything is putrid ochre and you can't see hair color because the screen makes me want to barf (also, terrible perspective with the background compared to the actual map)

8) The title screen music is annoying and uninteresting. No, really, it's not To Zanarkand. Sorry (not actually sorry)

9) "GO TO THE COURTYARD" "PRESS 1 TO DISCOVER THAT YOU MUST GO TO THE COURTYARD" "Where the fuck is the courtyard, why doesn't anybody tell me"

10) I stopped because the King's dialogue was absolutely horrible. He does not speak in a kingly manner at all, like, dude. Get a friend to help you write. You really can't. Dye Rudras characters blue and screw over booble all you want, you're good at that, but... man

Thanks!
Thanks for playing, Craze.

However, in regards to this....

Dye Rudras characters blue and screw over booble all you want, you're good at that, but... man

Fuck you. That was completely unnecessary.

In all fairness, she did do a lot of work for this game, and I think it helped bolster the game's exposure bigtime. But if she offered to do it for free, then there's really no grudge to be had here. Tricky situation!

She offered to do it for free; then I offered to pay her, and she refused, even after I insisted. If she decides she wants me to pay her, I'm all for it. She's done a fabulous job and is an extremely talented artist. I feel privileged to have her help.

Thanks for the clarification :)
please please don't get payment/stuff involved in this because honestly it makes me feel awkward and unfair that i'm getting paid for helping out with Hetalia, but did the art for free with this. i feel like it's very mean for YDS :( and would prefer the subject not touched on too much.
i started out knowing that i was working for free and i simply don't believe that i should ask for money when i've volunteered to do something in the first place; that's all. :)

this probably doesn't have a bearing on anything but i just thought i'd get it out of the way haha
