I'm Starting to Feel Kinda Nauseous.........

You ever get that feeling when you been working on your game for so long that just working on it makes you feel nauseous? Like, "Damn it, time to watch this cutscene again for the ten millionth time" or "Fuck, I'm running outta shit for these NPC's to say" or "Time to spend two hours making battle animations" or "Why....isn't this....finished yet?!" Yeah, that's how I'm feeling right this second.

I had this same feeling when I worked on it during 2009's Christmas while trying to get the Christmas demo ready (the one that is currently available). It's weird, I've probably worked on it even longer than I did back then in addition to these past three months, and yet it's not til I'm really close to being finished that I start feeling this way. I feel like I'm inches away, but there's still some of that shit that I really don't want to do (like adding Epoch's new Blade arts to the upgrade menu and finishing the monster notebook and finishing the tutorial book that keeps track of everything). Just thinking about it makes me want to throw up.

Normally, I'd just say, "Fuck this," and move on to something else for awhile, but I honestly just want this to be done as soon as possible because I feel like it's been sitting in my lap forever now. Also, there's definitely stuff I should be spending more time on these days, but I feel like I can't focus with this still unfinished.

I must be fucking crazy to be spending so much time and effort on something that A) isn't earning me any money and B) should be more like a hobby. At what point does something turn from a mere hobby into an obsession? Right now, I just want this to be finished.....

At least you have helpers with art and stuff D:

That's what I felt with Marian, Why isn't the f*cking art finished yet? I've spent around an entire week drawing and all I finished was Marian!!!! I still have to this and that and that!!!

I still understand what you meant tho, it's just well, games take forever you know? That's why game companies have groups of people to help and they still take 3 years =v=);; Pixel took 3 years for cave story so yeahhh

can't make a bad game if you don't finish any games

You're getting to the point where the only things left are the things you've been putting off.

Yes, and NicoB, I think you really shouldn't think too much, mate. Just take your time to finish. Do note that we're not rushing you. No one is, really. When it's finished, it's finished.

When you have to take a break, please do. Don't work yourself out too much.
It's something you enjoy obviously, boss man! I've been thinking that one of the biggest problems game makers have is they rush--take your time! Experiement, find what works, play around, hell, it's your creation! Why not enjoy making it and take your time?

And I agree--if it's taking it's toil, take a break!
I felt like that often with my 7 year old project. And eventually I just quite. I wish I hadn't, though.

Your game is hyped and all, so just finish it. Don't get on taking breaks, there's no point to them. Just work on it until you pass out... then have a glass of water, and go back to it! It will pay off.
I get like this regularly, like once a week. I'll be like "f this, never touching it again." Then the next morning I'll be like "welp, that's over with. Back to working on this."

Edit: Well I'm mostly kidding about once a week. Maybe once a month? But yeah, try sleeping on it.

This, right here. As someone who DM/GM's Shadowrun 3e and 4e, D&D 2nd through 4th,Pathfinder, Stargate, and Gundam I can actually say yes. I recently had to update my libraries with over 100 books and study them all. I felt like turning off my computer and telling someone to take the power cord so I could stop having to design so many more adventures while doing all that studying.

Again...take a break if that's what works for you. If your just having to jitters about having to lay into the more difficult prospects of design then calunio may be right. It worked for me anyways.

Also I envy you, I don't have the time to design games in any way anymore.

How far along are you?

How far along are you?

All I've got left is to finish two bosses, finish the shops and treasure chests, finish the monster notebook coding, and fix up a few more skills. So pretty damn close.

EDIT: Been listening to some Yasunori Mitsuda to get me motivated. Never fails.

i can't see or hear this word without thinking of ulillillia

i'd feel nauseous too if i was considering charging $20+ for something like platform masters
Lack of motivation eh? Just think about all the tons of extra work and fix ups you're going to have to do after all us beta testers send in their notes. Fun, fun, fun!

Now c'mon, chop chop! =)

Anyway, sorry for the wait guys. I must be the king of underestimating how long shit takes to finish (remember when I said I'd finish this by New Years? yeah, me neither).
I think the game is excellent and probably the first rpgmaker game I've played through even the demo since Demon Legacy...
I look forward to the next demo.
