I'm Sorry it Has to Come Down to This

Before I begin, I'd like to give my thanks to those who provided tremendous support in the making of this project. Seiromem, Miracle, matthewac, you guys in particular helped shape the project into what it is now and I'm deeply thankful for your contributions, which is why it is a bit hard for me to say, right now, that I'm retiring this project unless someone else want's to see it live on. Keep reading.

I never realized this when I started, but making a true Pokemon fan game is a tremendous undertaking. You have the typical complications of crafting a lengthy RPG on top of the added effort that goes into making each Pokemon. It was a valuable learning experience that made me greatly appreciate the efforts that Game Freak puts into their own series.

I'm not cancelling this because of the burdens of making the project, though. Even with my admittingly slow, inconsistent pace and the fact that I was mainly in charge of everything that went on with this project, I was still going to pull through no matter how many times I missed my own set deadlines or even how many times the main series would constantly surpass this game on release dates.

The reason I'm dropping this project is because Pokemon RMN Version's core premise, unique to this particular game, is rooted in the appreciation deep respect I had for this community. In lieu of recent events, it's an appreciation I no longer have.

Between deep-rooted issues that creates a major divide within the community, and the complete indifference towards the wanton disrespect brought upon the community's more marginalized members, this is no longer a community I wish to support, at least until I see a major change with the site's administration. I'm going to probably still make a one-off post here and there, and still make smaller-scale games, but I'm no longer going to be doing it under RMN's name. This community has long passed the point of being fulfilling for me as a game developer, and the only reason I even drop by anymore is for the few people here that make it worthwhile. Suffice it to say, Pokemon RMN version went passed the level of being a burden, but now feels uncomfortable to work on as it's a product of a time where I naively excused many of the most embarrassing aspects of this community.

Before anyone rages, however, I'll at least extend you guys an offer as to not let the efforts of countless people go to complete waste. I'm willing to distribute the open-source version of this project to whomever is willing to continue it in my stead, because one of those people who will have no interest in continuing the project will be me. I'll maybe pitch in some more battle sprites of Pokemon or whatever is needed from time to time, but for the most part, I'm through with this.

Until then, this project is cancelled. Sorry about this.

I'm currently discussing with Vis_Mage on their interest in taking over the project. I've been a bit caught up lately but I'll try to aim to get the needed info to them sometime this week.
I definitely think someone should continue this. Hell, I would, but I'm not sure how much Ruby I'd need to learn to work with pokemon essentials effectively. Also I'm pretty useless overall...
I can do sprites and music. Let us take over the project Ratty.

I would have more makerscore If I did things.

I could in fact to the text in English portion.
If someone else takes care of the jokes/dialogue/anything else involving text in English, I could help.

Unliess you want a game in Engrish.

(I can do spirits... spreads... Mesprits... sprites!).

I also hope you will allow me to continue this project for you.
Have you tried reaching about this, if you're serious?

This person hasn't, but I'd be open to lending it to them or orochii.

I was hungry of miceburgers ;_;. Good luck man, thanks for everything. Those 2-3 hours of Pokémon RMN demo were gr8 m8 :^D. I find peace on my mind just knowing you'll continue with gam mak. Just remember to spam me in that regard, me liek yo gam mak spirit.

I've always seen this place so big that I've always considered there would be all kinds of people and visions/stuff. Including people with which my way of thinking doesn't go well.

Or should I say, from its 4000 users, there would be at least one that doesn't hates me so much xD.

(I can preserve the game, I suppose? Slug-speed, or should I say Patrick's pet rock speed).
I'm sorry that you decided to quit this project. It is truly incredible what you've put together here. This game among all of your others is one of my favorites if not my favorite. Even though you aren't continuing this project, I will look forward to the other games you create in the future. I also hope you will allow me to continue this project for you. Good luck with any other projects you may be making.
Woah! When did this happen!

I'd imagine Nintendo would issue a takedown anyway I guess but man, bummer. Good luck on your future projects. It was fun while it lasted.
I feel you man. When you're not feeling the environment, it becomes difficult to do the things you like to do. It takes the excitement out of it.

As a player of the demo, I really liked where this game was going. It had it's own original flair and had a lot of potential. You're reasons for canceling this project is understandable. I've been on this site for only a year and a half, but I understand where you're coming from.

I look forward to seeing more creations from you in the future.
I thank you for the Sailor good luck to you Ratty524
To that point, it is better to just respect someone's feelings when it's obvious they're uncomfortable than to judge or doubt them.

Nothing reveals Humanity so well as the games it plays. A game of betrayal, where the most suspicious person is brutally murdered? How savage.

You people do realize that trivialising the issues Ratty brought up and calling them minor drama is exactly the reason Ratty feels rmn has become too toxic to be around anymore...

Thanks Ratty for initiating an exciting project for the community, thanks for all your hard work, and thanks for the fun times. Now hopefully we can find someone else to push this forward because it'd be a shame to see this die.

That's too bad to hear but thanks for the amazing contributions you have provided thus far! I hope you find what you're looking for.

You're absolutely correct. It is shame, he's such a talented person.

Hali is right. This his view is something that seems appropriate for a much more serious matter, not something like minor drama. To be honest, it has crossed my mind a few times that I wondered if he's joking around.
I've lost count of the number of times I quit RMN
It's no ones fault. The only time I will give up on something is either I lost the passion to continue or something big happened like my laptop crashed or a family member died or personal issues. No offense, but I'm sure you do not know almost 99% of the people on here in real life. And I know you gave this place a bad criticism, but I have been every where and I have to admit this place is very well structured.Give up because you want to and on your own terms, and not cause you feel like almost everyone is crappy. But your mind is made up. No need for us to show you how much we care and support you. I admire your talents but no offense I do not admit the way your quitting. Losing passion is one thing, but giving up due to others is another. Good luck.
