The rivalry between Craze and LockeZ began centuries ago when the lifeless planet earth first began to spin and form the galaxy. In the sky, the very first star appeared. Neither LockeZ nor Craze was going to have any of that, and so they both jumped up to punch the universe back into eternal darkness, but they collided in mid-air. Each blamed the other, and while they were bickering, RPG Maker was invented.

They have finally decided to settle their dispute once and for all by facing off in an EPIC BOSS BATTLE.

Craze's team consists of four paladins, come to rescue Myra, a damsel in distress who was kidnapped and taken to Direvil Darkfort. LockeZ's team consists of four third-grade girls, who are really annoyed that none of the minions in their evil fortress believe that they're really darklords.

Players can play as either team, going through a different game depending on which party they play as - one game made by LockeZ and one made by Craze. The two parties will meet at the center of Direvil Darkfort and the player will fight the other team in a fantastic final boss battle.

For the first week after release, after playing both games, players were able to vote on which version they liked more. This was to establish once and for all who is the greatest game designer in the universe.

AND THE RESULTS ARE IN. CRAZE ARISES VICTORIOUS OVER THE EVIL OVERLORDS. LOCKEZ SLINKS BACK INTO A THOUSAND YEAR STASIS TO PLOT HIS REVENGE.

Well, I joined the #watching/eating/betting side. Does that count for anything?

Also, very funny LockeZ. :P

EDIT: Nevermind! I just saw the contest topic and figured it out.
Next time LockeZ does this, he should announce himself with "After ten thousand years, I'm finally free! It's time to conquer earth!"
Hi, late to the party. Just found these and they were both pretty fun, as to be expected from two fun developers. Why oh why did you use random encounters, though, Craze? There wasn't even any incentive to fight them! Team Overlord is superior for that difference alone. I also agree with the general sentiment that Team Overlord was funnier -- though Team Paladin was more madcap, I felt Team Overlord was more original and had better flavor text. (I particularly liked the "undead fire elementals".)

I agree with the general sentiment that Overlord's battles were more strategic while Paladin's battles were more frantic. Though I prefer the former style, battles do tend to drag in Overlord simply because you have so little in the way of offensive output. (The final battle was particularly slow.) Project F's lightning was the best, but the randomness made it unreliable, and Toxicoil had a cooldown on her main attack skill, so her damage output was slow. The other two couldn't do anything more than chip damage.

I would have liked if there was more consistency between the two games; in particular, the evil team fights completely differently in Paladin than in Overlord. I was completely blindsided by Mortissiga the gimmicky support mage having a sudden "you die now" attack, Project F was a lot stronger than she ever was on my side, and Anathema fights completely differently. It would have been nice if playing as one gave you better insight into fighting them in the other version.

I'm also surprised people had trouble with Paladin's final battle. It's a single enemy, you can completely shut it down with stun and sleep. I thought the four-on-four was way harder.

I can see the point about Team Paladin fighting like RPG heroes and Team Overlord fighting like RPG enemies, though. That was well done.
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

I definitely made the boss battle last really long. Given how few battles there were, I felt like I needed to make it last a while in order for the player to really feel like they had fully explored all of their available skills and strategies by the end of the game. In retrospect: probably didn't actually need that.

The differences between the two games are the result of Craze and I competing against each-other rather than working together. We didn't have any more info about the opposing party members beyond what was posted publicly in the trash-talk thread. All we really had ahead of time was the basic premise, the central throne room map, and a couple basic script decisions so the games would play roughly the same.
