The Helkar came from the stars and groomed humanity to become the forefront of life forms on our planet. They shared with us their knowledge, gifted us with magic and helped our small civilisations grow and expand into eras of great peace and prosperity.

Then, they left. Continued with their star-bound journey and never returned. Over time petty jealousies and hate grew among our kind. Skirmishes and wars broke out over the bastions that they left for us, and we broke the world.

Time passed. Their knowledge and power was lost, but for the few teachings we could scrape together over countless years and searching. The old cities were combed over and civilisation grew once more. Peace reigned, though it was a fragile peace.

Magic was forgotten.

...until the first of the Helkar ruins were found. A small country uncovered them, and with that discovery, chose to encroach on their neighbours. Together countries beat them down, despite the re-emergence of magic and powers lost to time being in their hands.

The Pact came from that, a promise and contract that any and all Helkar ruins found from then on would belong to the world and not one country alone. That standing military was not allowed to search them, but that paid adventurers from each would represent their land in the uncovering of the magics within.

And peace reigned once more. Skirmishes and border disputes were plenty but time passed in relative peace, more knowledge being found and shared as new ruins came back to light.

It has been almost 70 years since the last Helkar ruin was discovered, when a small team of militia find a cave...

The Pact is still in effect.
The Contract remains unbroken.
Send in the adventurers.

Latest Blog

This year in DC

Welp, it's been a long time since I posted a blog for this project. Firstly let me just say that though progress has been relatively slow, there has been some. It's not immediately apparent, but it is there.

I'm looking to try and make Dungeon Crawl completely custom - which means getting rid of the current face sets and battle animations. I'm hoping there's a talented artist out there who wouldn't mind re-imagining the characters for me. I'll start looking whilst I work.

I'm also determined to finish DC some time this year, so any aid or feedback is greatly appreciated. I'll get more to that when I have a longer demo (when about 6-8 floors are done), so keep an eye out.

I also want to thank everyone that has given me feedback in the past - whether it be by review or comments. It is all greatly appreciated. So, thanks!

I like it; I'd play more if I could figure out how to pause and there weren't so many \| in the dialogue.
I fixed the |\ in the dialogue in the new version and explained how to save. There's no as time doesn't really matter much in filling the objectives of the game.

I am definitely gonna work on finishing this one. ^.^
I hope that the game status changes from "Hiatus" to "In production" ASAP.
I played this and found it to be a very entertaining, and I hope you will continue to add to its charm.

In terms of RPG Maker games, I have seen only as many genuinely top-down games as I could count comfortably on one hand. I'd say that's pretty damn original. ;D

So, when do I get to woo Alise play more of this?
I'm getting there, slowly, but yes. Still working on it form time to time. I'll post up a blog when it's closer to getting released.
For some reason this caused a tonne of slowdown on my PC (and it's not even that bad a PC :P). I think it was the animating overlays?

So once the game actually got started I couldn't really do much :/ Sounded pretty interesting too.
That's really strange as my last computer was pretty bad and it worked fine on it. And there's less than ten pictures shown at once, only 2-3 common events used for the pictures and I have no idea where the slow down is being caused.

I'll take another look, but I'm not sure that I'll find anything. In the meantime, are you playing it with any other programs in the background? Do you have any windows open or things like update programs? I've learned to turn these off when I do LPs/LTs as they cause a lot of lag with both the game window and recording software going at once.
I'll have to try it again with nothing running. I probably did have stuff running (I ususally have about 50 things open at a time anyway!). Odd though 'cause I can play a lot more intensive stuff than any RM game on here without any of this business.. I guess that's enterbra!n for you.

As a side note. I'm guessing it was a stylistic choice but.. Where are people's shoulders/arms/bodies?!
Ah, see when I went into this project I had the idea of only having coloured dots as the characters. It later evolved to having them be a bit more detailed but besides a few hair details, they're still just coloured dots. ^.^

I may or may not get around to actually doing some sort of shoulders one of these days, but I think I did try that at one time and it didn't look that great.

Ooh, I remember this game! This was insanely fun, but I couldn't remember who made it so I couldn't say so.

Nevertheless, amazing!
Ermm., I'm having a certain problem when I start the game,
It says something about the file system2c.
You might need to download the RPG Maker 2k3 RTP files. Especially if you're going to be playing a lot of 2k3 games from the site, since some of them do require it.
(Sorry about that! >.<; A quick google search can help you find it - since legally we're not allowed to give out links.)
