Over two hundred years ago, the five heroes defeated the god of darkness; Ragnarok, in a climactic struggle for the fate of the world. Banished back to the realm of darkness known as the Abyss, the threat of the evil god had finally been put to rest once and for all...or so they thought.

Umbral Soul follows the story of Ragnarok’s loyal servant, Pandora, who joins her master in a quest to conquer the world and reclaim his lost power. In order to shroud the world in eternal darkness, they will have to find and recruit new allies, build an army of powerful monsters, and raise a force strong enough to crush anyone who dares to oppose them. Heroes, generals and rival overlords all stand against them. Do you have the power to make the world yours?

Pandora
A powerful dark sorceress with the ability to call forth monsters from the Abyss and enslave them to her will. Her burning hatred for the world and its people leads her to follow Ragnarok with unwavering loyalty.

Ragnarok
The god of darkness, who seeks dominion over the human realm. Once an extremely powerful being in the form of a monstrous demon, he has now been reduced to a mere soul. He wishes to plunge the entirety of the human realm into darkness, in part out of spite for his counterpart; the goddess of light, Lumielle.

Lanith
Beautiful, deadly, and self absorbed to a tee, Lanith is a succubus with a never ending hunger for the lifeforce of men. Having served under Pandora since she was only a child, she has a knack for getting under her skin, and does so whenever the opportunity arises.

Damien
A deeply twisted and sadistic young man, Damien loves nothing more than manipulating others and watching them squirm. While he has kept his true nature a secret, Ragnarok’s uprising marks the perfect opportunity for him to cut loose and have some fun...by killing as many enemies as possible.

Azrielle
The lord of all demons, who is fiercely loyal to Ragnarok and possesses an extreme, seething hatred for humanity. After failing to aid his master in conquering the world the first time, he has no intention of repeating the same mistakes again.

I'm back, baby!

Hey everybody, hope you've been doing well. I'm pleased to say I was just recently discharged from rehab, so at long last after over a month I'm home. They ran a whole lot of tests on me and I had several surgeries, so I am finally no longer in danger of croaking. That means I'm finally free to double down on game development, when I'm not stuck sitting in some doctor's office that is. Thank you all for your well wishes, they went a long way towards improving my mental health through that strenuous time. Welp, that's enough chatter. I've got some game making to do.

I'll tell it to you straight. My health is bad. REALLY bad. Things took a turn for the worse for me at the end of the year and now I'm stuck in the hospital getting poked and prodded every day. It's infuriating. I'll post a blog about the details soon, but needless to say it's affected my ability to work on my game.

I'm sorry to hear that Wheelman. I was praying that your stroke was the last of your health concerns. Bums me out that your health is in such a dire condition. I hope you recover and can get on with life friend.

As for what FactChecker said. He's being rude. Look I can understand people being excited for the game and wanting to play it. But you don't owe us anything or need to prove yourself. Its a free game you made in your free time and were gracious enough to share with us. That said I am glad that you take your game seriously and are genuinely putting your all into it and want to share it with us. Keep up the good work and pace yourself if need be.

Now, hopefully this doesn't come across the wrong way but considering your worsening condition, I feel compelled to ask. If worse comes to worse have you set up a way to release what you have finished so far? Obviously I want to play the game, but I would also hate for something you seem to care so deeply about being lost forever. Especially after you put so much time and effort into it. I hope this never comes to pass. But it might be something to consider if your health continues to worsen.

Depressing stuff aside. I genuinely hope the best for you. I know its not much, but I will keep you in my thoughts and pray that you recover. I know first hand what its like when your health takes unexpected turns for the worse. Just stay positive and do your best to recover!

One of the best game you can find on this site. Yet why lying about a sequel or some "ultimate edition" for a 2017 game which received no update since five years ?

Dont misunderstand me, im really thankful to you, the author, for making such exciting little gem, as many here.

I have played and replayed it and will replay it in a near future. But please, stop teasing nothingness with some " I'm aiming to have the ultimate edition done by the end of the year". Or "i will work on this and that" to deliver nothing at end. Its obvious.

Just "im done with this game, glad you enjoyed it" and thats all, simple as that.

People who truly loved your free work will not bark or belittle you. Really.

Last I checked this game doesn't pay anyone's bills. And even if it did, there's much more to a person's life that they are not entitled to do anything just because someone wants it. Developing a game, of all things, is extremely demanding, time-consuming and stressing. There hadn't been any expectation dates of when the game would come out for a long time since, you guessed it, things happen in life unexpectedly. Besides, the commitment of the author to keep updating about the game all those years shows how they ARE keen into continuing it. Please be respectful.

As for you Wheelman, it is really sad to hear that your health has not been on the best side for some time now... Please don't strain yourself and specially do not think you owe anyone here something. Best wishes and hope you get well!

Not being able to predict the future is "lying" apparently!

People are entitled no matter what, doesn't matter if its a kickstarter, commercial, or free game they'll think it's really worth their time to grill devs for not delivering based on something they said awhile back. It's really annoying for gamedevs and I'm kind of sick of it tbh. Just say you're excited for whatever they make next and move on, don't accuse them of being liars or assume the game is cancelled.
Thanks for understanding, guys. You're all wonderful.

what is wrong with you? just, WHAT? i am not planning on arguing with you, i am not gonna tell you something bad that might get me banned from the site, but i have to say a few things. my questions will be rhetorical, as i am not looking for answers or even expecting a reply from you, but these are some things you really should ask yourself

how dare you accuse anyone of lying? why not check things out a bit more thoroughly first, wheelman has mentioned several times already the issues with his health, and it is extremely rude and insulting to him to just assume things like that

and even if there was nothing mentioned regarding his health or anything else anywhere, what gives you the right to demand things from wheelman, and, again, accuse him of lying? you know nothing about his life, family, work, mental and physical health, there could be a million reasons why the games are being made slowly, and you don't know any of them, and wheelman is not obligated in any way to tell them to you or anyone else. there are so many other words you could have used if you wanted to express your frustration in a constructive manner, but no, you chose lying

i am confused as to what exactly did you think you would achieve by writing your comment. do you see yourself as a knight in shining armour that will protect us innocents hoping for a game that will never come? your message was petty, nothing else. there was nothing constructive or helpful in it. you even bolded the word free, so you are aware that wheelman is making these games because he loves to do it, with absolutely nothing to gain from it, and yet, you chose to be rude and condescending

did you pay for the game that never came out? did you give wheelman your life savings, kidney, and a firstborn in exchange for the game that you did not get? like, even if you paid, your attitude would still be wrong, but this makes it even worse. what exactly makes you think you have any right to say anything to wheelman? you liked the game, replayed it, and? what now? do you want an award? he did not force you to play it, replay it, or hope for the sequel/ultimate edition. if you do not like that he is taking a long time to make the games, just stop following him/the game, stop checking out this page or anything else, if you believe it is all over and done, move on and don't be mean. you know that thing people say to kids, "before you say something, ask yourself if it is true/kind/helpful/necessary"? well, you should have asked yourself that before writing this comment, as it was none of those things

also, i just checked something, and your account is two days old. did you really make an account just to be rude to wheelman? that is just sad, my dude

the community around wheelman and this game has always been very positive and supportive, and i hope it stays that way. i will choose to believe you did not have any bad intentions and just worded your frustration wrong. however, i do mean every word i said to you, as, even if that was the case, you had a choice to word it differently and you didn't
wheelman, my dear senpai, please don't take words like that comment to heart, as you can see, your community loves and understands you, and we support you wholeheartedly. your health is a priority, nobody with a single working brain cell in their head will say the opposite. we are all very thankful we have had the opportunity to play the original umbral soul, and, yes, we would definitely love to play the ultimate edition and the sequel, but not at the cost of your health or anything else regarding your personal life. that would be literally evil. i hope it gives you some comfort while you are going through everything that we are all thinking of you and cheering for you, game or no game, we just want you healthy and happy. stay awesome, wheelman, and don't let anyone dampen your spirit. oh, and also, please don't apologize to people like factchecker, even if you did sound angry or rude, that would be your right. you were basically apologizing to them who were mean and rude and toxic to you, they should be the one apologizing, not you!! your reply to them was way nicer than they deserved, and it just shows once again the difference between people like you and people like them
Hello! I am new to the site and I just finished playing this game for the first time. It is really a hidden gem and I quite liked the characters and setting. Based on the last few comments on the thread there’s a sequel in the work? Or is it just a big, final update? Either way thank you for bringing this project to life for us all to enjoy :)
Hey Resstia985, allow me to welcome you to rmn! I'm thrilled you enjoyed my game so much and am happy to inform you that there is both an enhanced edition of the game and a sequel in the works. My current health issues have slowed my progress but I can assure you I'm still plugging away at them. For more details you can take a look at some of my previous blogs.

Miriel, you have always shown a ton of enthusiasm for the game and been nothing but kind to me, so I'd like to thank you for that. I've been feeling discouraged lately, but the kind words from you and so many other awesome people on this site have lifted my spirits, so from the bottom of my heart, thank you all. There's no need to worry about me, I'll be ok, and hopefully I'll be sharing games with all of you for a long time to come.
Hello Mr Wheelman, I'm new to the site as well and would just like to say thank you very much for your work.
Umbral Soul was the first RPG Maker game I had ever played and I don't think I could have gotten a better introduction. In all honesty I've been feeing a bit lost ever since I finished it, and have been scrabbling around for the last month trying to find something that scratches that same itch.
The game is a brilliant example of how classic characters and tropes can be made fresh and engaging through an earnest and skilled execution. It made me feel the same villainous glee that I had when playing the original Dungeon Keeper games (odd cross-genre comparison I know), which I was compelled to reinstall after my second playthrough.
For your effort, the immense fun I had playing and the memories you brought back to me; I thank you again.
I am sorry to hear that you are sick, and I wish you the best of luck in your swift recovery. Needless to say I will eagerly wait for any further releases from you, although be sure to take care of your health first and foremost.
Keep your spirits up and get well soon sir!
Wow, mine was the first rpg maker game you've ever played? That's quite an honor! I'm glad I wss able to make a positive first impression on you when it comes to the engine. The things you can do with it are truly amazing with the right scripts.

To be honest I never expected this game to have even half the impact that it has, but the fact that people have been enjoying it in spite of its flaws has made me nothing short of ecstatic. The entire purpose of this game was to create a fun experience that others would enjoy that I could look back on with pride, and it has more than fulfilled that purpose. So allow me to thank you for your comment, as it is the reactions of players like you that have made building the game worth every second of effort.

Allow me to take the time to welcome you to rmn. We've got some pretty nice games here, and some even nicer people, so I hope you enjoy what you find. And if you ever just feel like shooting the breeze or asking me a question, please feel free to hit up my inbox. I try to be here pretty often.
Thanks for the warm welcome, I think I'll definitely hang around a while longer. I picked up RPGM 2003 in the recent steam sale, so I might mess about with that a little if I can find the time. I'm sure I'll quickly appreciate the work people put into their projects.
I just want to wish you the best of luck with your full recovery. It's great you can still work on you're games. Just keep taking things as you can handle them though, while recovering.
Thanks boos, that really means a lot. I know you've been following the game for a long time, so I'm glad you're still interested and appreciate your kind words.
Every now and again, I go back to this page and kind of check on how the game's doing. I just read the situational update, and maaan that sucks.

With all my sincerity, I really hope you feel better soon - not so you could update the game soon... but, it just really sounds like you're having a bad time.

If it's any consolation at all, I feel like the game I played way back 2016 was already amongst the best games I've ever played, and not just rpgmaker games. Whatever happens, I couldn't ask for more :)
Hey man, long time no talk, haha. I hope you are doing ok despite your dificutlies and that you aren't straining yourself too much, your health will aways be the most important. Good luck with your recovery, i wish you only the best Wheelman.
Hope you feel better man, and don't worry about setting any release date take all the time you need, I finished this game back in 2018 and I come back to this blog pretty often that's how much the game has impacted me, that being said I hope you take some time for yourself, make sure you get some rest in you earned it ^~^
Thanks about your answer Wheel, thats all I come for.

Dunno for your health issues, anyway take care.

However, some triggered sycophants should learn to read before posting : your gross offended-for-nothing attitudes are ridiculous at best. Since smart enough people for deducing intentions from a less-than 10 sentences comment dont deserves more than a 4 sentences answer => I had what i came here for, so deal with it or do not for what I care.

Guys, I just wanted to say thank you for all of your support. You don't know how much it means to me. Things have only been getting harder for me lately but I feel like I have the strength to endure whatever I need to thanks to the sheer amount of people in my corner. You're all amazing and I will always be grateful for each and every one of you. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

well, well, well, look who is back! our favourite... i don't want to get banned. i find it both funny and sad that you saw literally everyone disagreeing with you and quite politely and respectfully calling you out (way more politely and respectfully than you deserved) and you decided to double down and call us all triggered sycophants. although, by using both of those words, you said quite a lot about yourself. so, there is one thing i do agree with you, you are definitely not worth a long answer (but wheelman is, and that is why i am writing this). you should think a little bit about the fact that literally nobody was on your side. like, is everyone else wrong or maybe, just maybe, could it be you? you came with a really awful attitude and projected lots of garbage nonsense on wheelman, and even now, after finding out you were absolutely wrong, you do not even have enough decency to at least apologize or show a bit of compassion. pathetic. truly pathetic. you should be concerned at the state of your heart and mind, there seems to be not a single bit of empathy or accountability left
