Everything was wonderful- Gwyn the knight and Isela the princess were living out their lives in peace and harmony. However, things went wrong, as they often do. The Dark Lord Leirwrex appeared and took Princess Isela away to his castle in the world of dreams.

Gwyn follows them into this strange world, intent on finding Leirwrex's Nightmare Castle and rescuing her one true love!

Dream Quest: Knight and Princess is a retro style rpg featuring:

  • Strategic Turn-Based Battles

  • 3 Levels

  • 4 Bosses

  • 4 Difficulty Options

  • Cute Art!

Based on playstyle and difficulty chosen it should take around 30 minutes to an hour to complete.

Dream Quest was made for the ten-day Retromania event to celebrate RMN's TENTH BIRTHDAY! :D

Graphics by Ebeth! Gameplay by unity!

We Finished in Time! A Dream Come True! :D

The game's available for download! This is the made-in-ten-days version, and the gameplay's still a little rough and some of the maps are emptier than I like in terms of detail, but it's here, and ready to play :DDDDDDDD

As for the difficulty settings, only Easy and Normal have been tested to any extent, so try them at your own peril. Heck, I'm not sure if it's possible to beat the game on the hardest difficulty at all XD;;;;

A huge thanks to Ebeth for working with me on this! It's been great and it's always a delight to see what you come up with ^_^

Edit:
Ebeth here to say thank you to Unity for working with me! You were a pleasure to work with and what you created is fantastic!

-Whoops since I added that edit it says that I'm the author of the blog but unity wrote all that stuff up top!-

NEW DREAM QUEST DOWNLOAD!!

All art and maps in this are the final version! If you've already downloaded the game I recommend re downloading this version so your eyes will be able to view more pleasant and detailed maps.

Also no game breaking bugs! Yay!

Some of the bosses are reused but you'll have to ask unity about that one!

I hopefully got the Heal5 instance removed, too.

Boss #3 should be a more powerful recolor of Boss #1.

EDIT: OOOPS I messed that up too! XD;;;;;; So sorry! I fixed it and uploaded it again.

I apologize to everyone about having to keep downloading the game. But now you can get the prettier version that should also be bug-free (fingers crossed ^^;;;;)

Boss #3 should be a more powerful recolor of Boss #1.

It was the same cake/candy combination than stage 2.

Just finished.
No more bugs found.
The last boss should be doable in Nintendo Hard with a higher level, for Easy it's enough to be level 8-10.

When do they learn their final spells?

Yeah, the third boss was supposed to be Super Mushdoom. I fixed it right before your last post ^^;;; Thanks so much for catching these mistakes ^______^

All the characters except Gwyn learn their last spells at 8. Gwyn learns her last one at 7, though if I can think of a good one, I may give her another spell in the final version.

I still wonder if Nintendo Hard is overkill. I find Intense pretty challenging on its own. To those who have played: Should the Nintendo Hard difficulty be removed or toned down, you think?

Wow, this is CUTE. Dwnloading.

Yay! Thanks! :DDDDDD

I found a game-breaking new bug in the prettified version of the game that makes the game freeze after Fluffy joins >.<;;; Fixed it and uploaded.

Edit: Found and fixed another passibility bug, on the screen of the candyland boss. Also scaled back the Intense and Nintendo Hard difficulties. They are still hard, just not quite as unfair as before ^^;;

Oh, I wasn't aware that this actually was a team project. It looks pretty nice, so good job, both of you! I'll try to give this a shot soon. And it seems I should not expect it to be easy. For some reason, unity, your personality always makes me forget that your games are often actually very difficult and challenging, haha!

hehe :D

Though, I do hope the difficulty settings make the game fun even for those who aren't looking for a challenge.

Thank you! and don't let my cute art fool and unity's sweet personality fool you, on the more difficult levels this game is tough!

I decided that I've played too few games from RMN so far this year, so I sat down and played through this game in one sitting. As expected, the hardest difficulty was merciless from the start, but I managed to get to the final boss, though with a few gameovers on the way. I couldn't beat the last boss even after multiple attempts, unfortunately, so I took the coward's way out and lowered the difficulty.

The presentation of this game is very oldschool indeed, and I enjoyed the silly "cutscenes" that occured upon going to a nw level. Despite the minimalistic approach, the game was pretty fun, although the combat and treasure hunting did have to cover up a bit that there wasn't actually much going on on the maps themselves gameplay-wise. Fortunately, the battle system gained depth very quickly, and I appreciate the somewhat flexible setup for each party member. All in all, this is probably not a game I'd play through more than once, but I don't regret spending quite a bit of time on it.

I also encountered a very small amount of little errors and oddities, which I'll report to you in a PM, unity.

P.S.: As an aside, due to the kind of creepy music, I was initially completely convinced that the healer/shopkeeper character was evil, and was only trying to lure me into a trap.

Thanks so much, NS! I went ahead and fixed all the issues you sent me in the PM (except for the one time the game didn't auto-revive you after battle, having trouble pinpointing that one, but I'll keep looking!) and reuploaded the game! I'm so glad you enjoyed it despite a few issues ^_^

Ooops! I wanted her to seem mysterious but I guess the music goes too far into creepy territory XD;;;
