Official Postponement Announcement

Dang, withdrawing from the commitment is understandable though. I had issues with the previous game's combat but I saw a lot of potential and loved the world enough to want to see more of it. Hope you return to it some day!

I've started and abandoned the idea of doing a spinoff a few times, but hopefully something comes of that someday.

Clarification about Ambiguous Concepts + "How Do I Play Beetle Ninja?"

author=LordBlueRouge
Hi 16bitking,I read the news about the director's cut being canceled. When I have some free time, would it be alright if I did a small edit to beetleninja and try to find a way to compress the music folder to a smaller file size so it'll be easier for users to download?

Let me know. I donated a bit of money towards this, so I'm bummed that this game didn't get a bigger reception. I wish you luck on your future endeavors. You are a really talented dev.

Thanks man!
If you make edits, please message me about it. If you can manage to get the file size reduced, I'd probably be willing to set this as the default upload for the full game.

Beetle Ninja is Now Free.

I'll be dropping a review later, I need to make some time for playing. I bought it on GJ last week.

Btw just wondering, what made you decide to change it to free?

Cheers!

It was a combination of a lot of small things that added up to me just disliking the idea of making this a paid game.

I want to be kinda vague about this because delving into specifics would involve talking about a lotta behind the scenes stuff that I think the audience shouldn't care about at all, but development was also kinda taxing for me, so I suppose I just wanted Beetle Ninja to be a game that a lot of people get to experience.

Beetle Ninja Releases October 14th 2020

author=LordBlueRouge
I was like "why is 16bitking releasing this on 14th-...."

And then mid-way through watching the trailer, I was like:

"...-Ooooooh! they're releasing it on October 14th cause the Catalyst happens on October 14th!"

Really clever piece of marketing here dude! lol! I love stuff like this!
Looking forward to more of this on the 14th!

Lol, really I'm just releasing it a bit early because I'm a bit tired of waiting. I was thinking of releasing it on the date of Harold Camping's armageddon prediction, October 21st, but the cataclysmdda.org prediction was closer so I changed it to sooner upon that realization.

Japanese Translation Incoming

Awesome, glad to hear that. I can kind of understand why it may be popular in Japan, I can see some influences in the design of the game itself. I still need to finish playing it and watch YouTube videos. Good luck with your next game. Hope you’re doing well. ^^

Well, to be honest the game is generally kinda a response to the more self-referential tone I often find in most American-made RPGMaker games, which I personally tend to have a bit of a distaste towards (and it seems Japanese RPGMaker projects are typically made in a manner similar to this: using primarily only structural advancements rather than aesthetic ones in original properties).
Where the Moon Goes At Night, retrospectively, isn't exactly a game I'm totally proud of, however I think that motivates me more to make Beetle Ninja a much better game, and as such early feedback generally seems to be far better than with Where the Moon Goes At Night (so perhaps the vertical slices I have tested are either just the game's strongest bits, or the game's turning out good? Who can say at this point lol).
I must also point out that the majority of YouTube content surrounding the game, at least that I've seen, totally ignores the majority of the game's secret content, and much of it is from the 1.0 English release which lacks in a lot of content and bugfixes.

50% demo out now!

Wow seems a lot of content! I wanted to wait for the final release but I am too curious to wait, this looks even better that WtMgaN.

At the minimum, the game is a far more technically impressive game. Due to it's open-ended structure, I don't quite think the strange narrative is as pervasive, but nonetheless, I think it is a better game personally.

"Insane Mode" and Misao Awards

author=LordBlueRouge
The Battle Animations were really cool in this!I wanted to capture them for the year-end round up thread but I didn't have time cause everything was so last minute. Please make more games 16bitking! Where the Moon Goes At Night was a really neat surprise!

I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I will work on a sequel to the game should it win any Misao award, but for the moment there is a short demo available for a side project of mine called "Chateaux des Lapins": https://gamejolt.com/games/chateaudeslapins/455290
