Honestly, the buffs weren't all that important. Keeping everyone's HP up was vastly more important. Also Stalwart Guard is your best friend. It is the best friend you will ever have.

I just played through both games. Both games had their moments, but I think Craze's is game is stronger. For one, the skills were more useful; compare Leon Radiant Blade which was both an effective attack and a good all-party heal to Anathema's Bloodspatter; which was almost completely useless. To be honest, only Toxicoil and Project F were all that useful. Mortissiga never seemed all that useful in any of the fights; she ended dying early on the Paladin fight, and if anything, the fight got easier since I did't have her weighing the rest of the party down.
