I love things like this, have hosted them in the past, I prefer the classic #rm2k one hour or three hour format for MAXIMUM INSANITY (I'm looking at you, Craze!) but if you hold this at a point when I actually have free time (i.e. probably NOT this weekend) then I would be one of your most eager participants.

Ah, Enthusiasm! I guess I am not the only one who'd love to play a bunch of games on a given day and review em'!

Might actually make me less timid about releasing something (I just picked up RPGVX
a week ago or so, and i'm finding it challenging to get the graphics to do my bidding,
but boy has it been fun to tinker... no epics coming from me anytime soon, heh heh)

Well sir, all we need to do is get a bunch of us (by bunch I mean as many who wanna join) and agree on a day!

3 Hour Game night/day was successful!

8 people in all participated, which I call a victory for what I'd set out to get done.

The theme was "Nuclear Contamination".

Here are the games that came out of it, and the people you can blame/praise for their 3 hour work:

Enjoy! I myself will comment in detail on them tomorrow when I get some time.
for now, I am off to bed.

The IRC discussion was fun though, guys. Let's do this again in 2 months or so, eh?

If you could remake any videogame which one would it be?

author=Canuck link=topic=1964.msg36078#msg36078 date=1223278962
Lufia was great as in, besides the slow walk speed.

I'd remake 7th Saga. Slight graphical enhancements, more balanced characters, more intelligent reliationship with other characters, a few nice secrets, and that'd be about it.

Man it was a great game.

You sir, are after my own heart. Here I thought I was the only fan of that game!

I would deepen the hatred between Valsu and Lejes, and give each character a different ending in addition to your suggestions.

The weird things you do

author=Max McGee link=topic=2152.msg35981#msg35981 date=1223242140
I do the same shit in most Grand Theft Auto games, actually, and actively try to avoid killing people or commiting crimes unless it's for a good reason, trying to make the game more realistic by my actions.

The entire appeal of Final Fantasy Tactics for me is creating the weirdest possible (yet most effective) class combinations. In my current game, my "Ramza" is Roland, and is effectively a GUNSLINGER. The one time I ever beat the game, he was a teleporting ninja.

In GTA I do the exact opposite, and go absolutely nuts in my environment. After i've seen enough "regular" killings and stunts, I move onto attempting more elaborate and
"creative" kills and stunts. You can only go so far with drive-by shootings, but drive-by shootings in a tire-less car that is in flames and jumping out at the last second before it blows up, and THEN attempting to shoot things as I fall out? better.
trying every weapon in this mode? oh yeah.

Tactics is by far my favorite of the FF's. I like making my entourage as diverse and crazy as possible! Things like Ninja/Mediator and Squire/Oracle aren't unheard of in my party! Sounds like we play this one the same, heh heh!

Oh yeah, in KOTOR, it's all about the evil for me, at least.

The weird things you do

I do the saving thing, where I'll have just saved, but I save 2 or 3 more times to "make sure".

Also, the very first thing I do in every game is try to find the "edge" for myself. I.E. the ways I can use the system to my advantage. Be it farming specific items for the purpose of getting rich quick, abusing an attack scheme that allows me to finish fights quicker to level up faster, or just plain grinding on small things so that i'll be able to breeze through and catch the story in one fell swoop.

I don't like stopping to level after getting involved in a story, so i'd rather do most of that up front, and then let the story mesmerize me.

What upcoming games are you looking forward to?

I'm looking forward to games that i'll never see...

7th Saga DS, with new classes, more story and revamped graphics
for example.

a brand new Punch Out!!!, a-la SNES version, only longer and with
more characters...

something completely off the wall and potentially intriguing...
Ice Climber RPG!

Although it's good to know Chrono Trigger DS is coming. *sob*

Five Random Thoughts About Video Games.

1. Square? Awesome.
Enix? Awesome.

Combine them and you get complete shit.

In Videogames, two awesomes don't necessarily make a SUPER awesome.

2. They just don't make em' like they used to.

3. I wish I still owned Vanguard Bandits for the PSX.

4. 1990-2000 was the BEST decade for RPG's. The absolute best of the best
came from there.

5. There needs to be an Earthbound released for the DS or something.

Naming your characters

author=Shadowtext link=topic=1644.msg36166#msg36166 date=1223317042
Dweezil and Moxie Crimefighter are both pronounceable and reveal something both about the parents' personalities and the experiences the character would've had as a child. And Dweezil's a nickname anyway, so it reveals something about the character's personality as well. Aposajgpbn does not.

Even if they did, just because something is legal as a name in the real world doesn't make it a good name for story purposes. Stories are pieces of entertainment to be experienced by people. Every decision you make about aspects of your story and anything that makes it up (including the names and words you use) must be made while keeping in mind your duty to your audience, to tell an entertaining and accessible story.

Ah! you were around, eh? Cool! I'll give you that Aposajgpbn is a crappy name. Maybe change that to Aposa Jigaphon and you have something to work with, heh heh.

Obviously there are unattractive sounding names, heh heh. Never forget to stick enough vowels, I say. Znnnnnkxnzpt is just damned lazy.

Giving people the option to name their playable characters is also a good thing, too.
