This is mostly nitpicking, but perhaps you could adjust the dark outline around the sprites, to make them more "painterly" as the backgrounds are.

Looking good loathsomedove. That's a nice first effort.
The swirled clouds at the bottom of the first screen aren't totally consistent with Rm2k3's RTP (not that that's stopped anyone before, lol)... so maybe tinker with that a little? Lightning is a nice touch though. Why are there carpeted stairs leading up to the tower? Is it meant to be comical?
For the second screen... is that scene at night? I would experiment with an overlay or screen-tint to convey that more effectively.

^ Pretty much sums up my attitudes about formalized religions. In the mordern age, they've became little more than ideologies, belief systems that people identify with, and use them to enhance their false sense of self. Through them, we try to make ourselves "right" and others "wrong." (Look no further than the recent Gay Marriage thread for an example...)
I *would* call myself agnostically spiritual--because I do believe there are forces in the Universe than are beyond human comprehension, that subtly guide and protect us (if we are tuned in to them). But it is for that very reason that I don't believe we should presume to create any rigid dogma, from forces of love that are meant to unite us. The ancient religions have become so overlaid with extraneous matter that their spiritual essence has become almost completely obscured by it.

Also one of RMN's staff basically just resorted to the argument that "gay marriage will kill off the human species" so I'm not sure of the level of integrity this debate can go on with.

The old manga style will still be used in-game, as it tends to mesh a lot better with Rm2k3. A lot of the newer portraits are for fun/promoting the project. xD

Very cool Luchi, altough the cliffs don't look very natural. Also the encounter meter doesn't look very fitting with the rest of the graphics. It looks a bit too smooth.
Hmm, I disagree.
I actually like those cliffs - they've improved quite a lot from the earlier versions. They're not any worse than your typical-fare RPG cliff tiles. Luch's stuff is some of the most refreshing in the screenshot topic lately IMO.
The only gripe I have his that whack square-shaped autoshadow... get rid of that shit. xD

Any dogma that comes from "religious" institution is limited by its interpretation, so while I can (sometimes) respect anti-gay beliefs, it's insulting to legitimate spirituality to claim that it harbors prejudice.

However, I got to say this; I'm not comfortable with how some of the gay-rights advocates are so militant to try to silence any opinions to the contrary. I personally am a advocate for people to keep things like kissing at home, be it men or women, as I was raised a traditional southerner with old dutch customs, but when I advocated this before, instantly many of the people who were celebrating the news in America, automatically start shouting me to silence and delete my opinions.
I *sort of* agree with you when it comes to obnoxious PDA, but is "militant" really a fitting word when many of the advocates are simply fighting for equal treatment? (Which they're deservedly starting to receive!)
Straight couples kiss one-another, hug, or hold hands every single day of our lives, and no one really thinks anything of it. It's practically taken for granted. The same can't always be said for gay couples outside of an urban setting. One person's definition of "manners" shouldn't necessarily be held as the societal standard.
But yeah agreed, now the politicians can stop beating a dead horse and move forward on larger issues. xD

I do love the idea behind it altough the roof looks really strange. I recommend changing it. I like what you were trying to do with the walls but it kinda breaks the perspective:extended edition.
Agreed. Perhaps you could make the buildings more compact in general, as I'd imagine the exterior looks rather huge.
Another alternative is to use Charsets for the building tiles (the "outside" of it) and have them disappear when you go through the doorway or something. That way you wouldn't have to include a Teleport event, and things would be even more seamless.
