CALMONE'S PROFILE

I made my first game using RPG Maker VX back in 2010, that is what first inspired me
to make games! It has been four years since then and I have graduated from Full Sail
University. I specialize in programming and scripting.

Broken Seal

Sure, I am currently revising my story and characters. As for game mechanics I have a general idea.

So, I'm pretty much on the very early stages of developing this.
However, I am determined to finish this project even if it takes years!

Soon, I will be working on adding the new core game mechanics to my project, lets
just say I have quite a bit of scripting to do. I will get a demo or something up
that showcases my ideas. =]

Broken Seal Review

It's interesting that you mentioned the battle system.
That was where the majority of the game-breaking bugs were and boy,
it was not easy fixing all the compatibility issues that arose
with Tankentai and one of Yanfly's scripts.
As the code was difficult to understand especially with all the comments
being in Japanese, and even with a translator.
Anyway, the battles get more interesting as you progress through the game.
There are some cool things that I did like, mainly the instant-cast skills
that could be used without using up a turn.

Also, I don't know if you noticed there is an option called 'Outline'
that explains all the basic functions much better than the tutorials
ironically. I could see I was trying to make the game clear for those
who never even touched an RPG as well. On my first playthrough of this
I was thinking I could have just told the player about this option and cut
out literally every tutorial(Especially the shop tutorial, that one made me laugh).

As for the mapping and presentation, it doesn't get any better unfortunately. =[
To be honest, I am looking for a little more feedback regarding my battle system.
I want to know your thoughts about it, now that I've seen how you review.
I will upload my saves so you do not have to suffer through this mess, as the kill
x amount of a random monster formula to progress is present throughout the
entire game.

Broken Seal Review

Thank you very much for your review.
I'm sorry that you had to sit through that, as this was my very first game
that I made over 4 years ago.
However, I do agree with all of your points.
As you have confirmed all of my thoughts about this game, I just
needed to hear them outside of my own head.
Everyone I had test the game, just told me that it was good and I wasn't
sure if they were lying to me or not.
With that being said, I wasn't sure which direction to take with this
project, either do a complete reboot or fix up what I have and make
it actually enjoyable and fun.
That was the entire purpose of even posting this project, to get honest feedback.
I feel the best bet is to do a complete reboot and flesh out my game mechanics
and story and character presentation.
As I don't even remember my original goal for this project.
I do remember though, getting frustrated and giving up on this
project because of game-breaking bugs that I simply could not fix.
When making this I enjoyed toying around with scripts but certain scripts
were just incompatible.
Coming back to this project though, thanks to my now strong programming background, I was able to fix all the game breaking bugs so that this game would even be playable.
To be honest, I am a complete noob when it comes to RPG Maker VX, as it's
been so long since I've used this program. Well, except for the scripting
as that did not take me long to figure out. I'm not the best with graphics
or mapping so in regards to those, I'll most likely check out some tutorials.
Anyway, you are an excellent and honest reviewer!
Thanks for your feedback =]

Oh it's no problem, that just means there is that much to improve on.
It was never really about the score for me, I just wanted some feedback.
Thanks for you time and when the review is available I will look through it.

I forgot to edit the .ini file, as I have to manually make the zip file.
My game is too large for the "Compress Data" option in the editor to work.
I just updated the download.

My Game:
Broken Seal

* Describe how you want your game to feel to other people.
Well as I made this back in 2010, this was my first game to be honest, I
have forgotten my original vision for this game. However, I now have a new
one. I want the game to be action-packed as I've drawn most of my inspiration
from anime like Dragon Ball Z. As for the characters I want them each to have
distinct personalities and be characters that people can relate to. I want the
story to be interesting, the player is placed in this setting that they
know little about, as they progress through the game the player will learn more
about the setting and the characters alike. For the gameplay I wanted
to go with something simple and easy to pick up, yet complex at the same time.
This is why I went for traditional systems instead of custom ones. I also want
to be able to support multiple types of play, some people are completionists and
others just like to rush through the game and complete the story. Due to this
I decided that player customization is an important feature for my game that
will make the experience more enjoyable for all players.

* Only submit polished games.
This game is playable I have tested it multiple times, there are no game
breaking bugs and very few grammatical errors.

* Let me know if you want a ranked review or just feedback (N/A rating).
I know that ranked reviews can make or break games, but sometimes a
bad review is better than no review. Not that my game is bad, lol.
I'm willing to take the risk and go for it. My goal is to make a game
that anyone can enjoy, with that in mind I want you to be as honest
a possible with your review. With your feedback I believe that will
help me achieve my goal.

* Include the length and maturity rating of the game.
The game is about 4-5 hours in length and that's just with me testing it, so I
am unsure of its true length. It can take up to 6-7 hours for the player to
complete depending on how they play the game. As for maturity, if I had to rate
the game I'd say its rated T. There is blood, violence and mature language
in this game.

RTP is not included I hope that isn't a problem.

Broken Seal 1 (Unf1-r3)

Ohh, well thanks for playing my game. By the way, did you make it past that
Darklord fight?

Broken Seal 1 (Unf1-r3)

I can see where you are coming from.
As a game developer my game should not be confusing to my audience,
that is what my goal is.
I want everyone to be able to pick up my game and play it, whether this
is your very first game or you're an rpg veteran.
This can be a very challenging goal to meet as people have different
tastes, some are completionists and like things to do on the side or collect.
Others like to just breeze through the game and have a good time.
Some people love complicated games to sink their teeth into, others like
you like things to just be simple. So they can just relax and enjoy the game.
At times I can get feedback from one person saying my game is boring and easy, and
from another person saying its difficult to understand and get accustomed to.

I myself am a hardcore gamer so I have the tendency to make things a bit complicated. However, thanks for your feedback as it will help me with my
game greatly. I think that it is I who has to make these things a bit more
clear to the player!

Also tell me what setup and strategy you are using to take on the Darklord,
so I can help you out =]!
