The Man Who Planted Trees

I apologize if this is in the wrong forum.

I can't really remember what I was looking for originally, but somehow I stumbled upon a short book called "The Man Who Planted Trees" written by Jean Giono. The general plot of the book revolves around a man who lives alone in a desert who has a passion for planting trees. As the story progresses, his forest grows very lush. It's an extremely heart warming story that I can reccomend to everybody, but it wasn't really the book on its own that made my jaw drop.

Roughly 30 years after the story was written, an animated version of it was created. Some of you have probably seen it before, I have no idea. I'd never heard of it, yet it is #1 on the imdb short film list. Go figure. Everybodyshould watch the film, because it's the most beautiful piece of animation I've EVER seen. The art style is so unique, and the use of music and sounds is incredible. I was so stunned by the film that I ordered the DVD off amazon. Luckily for all of you, it's on the internet. Do yourself this favor and check it out:

Long forgotten chipset!

I stumbled upon this old gem in a Japanese rpg maker game:

I remember finding that a long time ago on a site, but then forgot about it, and didn't see that again until I stumbled upon it in japanese project! As far as I know, I'm sure it's fine to use it, if you have use for it.

The story planning process

I've asked people about this before, and I get different answers all the time. So it usually makes for interesting discussion. The question?

How do you go about planning the story for a game? I'm not really sure what the best way is. Some ways I've heard:
-Planning the whole game out in detail before even starting the game.
-Making a rough outline, and then filling in the specifics as you go. (Is this how most people do it?)
-Write as you go. Maybe plan the next few hours or so, but not the whole game in advance.
-Wing it, just make the game as ideas come to you.

I honestly have no idea of what the best method is, nor have I found a method that works for me yet. Since I have yet to make decent progress on any game I've started.

Your thoughts?
