I think you did the right thing. It's not like everyone would have eventually agreed on the same set of rules anyway. Eventually you need to show some leadership and grab the bull by the horns, me thinks.
The theme is interesting although I find the duel perhaps a bit restrictive. Will be looking forward to the results.

@Versalia: I agree with you about the background and the floor, I also think they should be changed but I disagree with the way you word them.
People don't respond well to blunt criticism (most people anyway). You need to sugar coat it a bit or at least be tactful in order for most people to be receptive. I think your comment did hurt Otabo's feelings.
I'm not telling you this from a moderation standpoint but as a general advice (which you can, of course, ignore). Being harsh in criticism without giving feedback is usually just rejected and generates hostility. Some people will resent you for this.
Your first message didn't provide any sort of feedback to help Otabo. I prefer your second one where you actually provided some pointers as it was helpful.

An appeal to fans
A good template is about a blog post a weekI'm so happy to read I'm not the only one who thinks that :). I'd say once every 48 hours at most.
You can also post your screens in the screenshot thread and use the creative corner for your sprites.

I've been playing a really nifty flash game called: House of Dead Ninjas.
It's a lot of fun and doesn't require dozens of hours of commitment, much like Super Crate Box.
I'd be curious which floor you guys can get to. I got 180 something IIRC.
