Take Down: Infinity Shift ~Forum RPG~

OOC: to Chears' defense, his character doesn't know Kyle, and may unlikely be willing to listen to a stranger.
OOC: Fair enough. And with Cadeon staying behind as well, we now have an interesting situation where the party is split into two pairs.
Satisfied with having found some food, Kyle arrives back at the lake with the apples. As he sees the place he left, his satisfaction gives way to incredulity. The cow he so much wanted to get meat and skins from is nowhere to be seen. Neither is the rope that was tying it to the catapult. The catapult had obviously been activated.
Not only that, but two of the people that were in the group when he left were gone, when he had clearly told them that he was going to bring back food. Only the large bearded man remained. The palm of Kyle's right hand had a sudden urge to meet his face, but he didn't want to drop the apples.
"Oh, for the love of...!"
Kyle cut his verbal outburst short and took a deep breath. This was not the time or place to lose his temper. He walked over to a soft patch of grass and turned to the large man before him.
"Please tell me you weren't the one who shot the cow..." pleaded Kyle as he left the apples on the patch of grass. He feared the answer, though, so he quickly took it back. "No, don't answer that, I'd rather not know."
Kyle surveyed his surroundings. He saw a chest tied to a different rope, and walked over to it. Before deciding what to do with it, he turned to the man again.
"Hey, if you're hungry, feel free to help yourself. Those apples are for all of us."
He looked at the chest again. A trail coming from the lake lead to it, so it was likely submerged in the lake and then pulled out by one of his now absent companions. He could probably bash open the lock with a heavy stone, but the things kept in submerged chests were ususally treasures of purely monetary value, absolutely worthless for people stranded in the wilderness. Around the chest was something much more useful.
ACTION: Kyle unties the rope around the chest, then takes out his knife and cuts the end attached to the catapult. He rolls the rope into a wheel and throws it over his shoulder.

OOC: Kyle's still coming back from his apple picking trip. That's why I wanted you to act first. Are you sure you really want to head off without waiting for him to return? He can probably catch up with you, but it's still a bit of a dick move.
What is the perfect encounter rate?
author=McBick
What do you think the perfect encounter rate is?
Depends on how hard the encounters are. If they're harder, they shoulf be less frequent.
author=McBick
And does it matter how large the area your currently in is?
Yes. Very frequent encounters are even more frustrating in large areas.
author=McBick
I've played games where I would get an encounter every 2-3 steps making it very annoying to travel through dungeons,
So you already know not to do it.
author=McBick15 steps is in no way a bad average ammount of steps between encounters, especially in large areas. I'd say the problem there is with the design of the bosses themselves or the experience yields, not the encounter rate.
but I've also played games where I would walk 15 steps before running into an encounter making me under leveled at boss fights.

OOC: Kyle's walking back, so he's going to take a while before he can react to this mess. I'm going to let the others act first so I can preserve the integrity of the time continuum. Still, Kyle's going to be pretty mad once he sees what happened to his survival plans.

It didn't take long for Kyle to find what he was looking for. In front of him was a large tree filled with red apples. Kyle was more favorable to the slightly bitter taste of green apples, but it's not like he had a choice in the matter. Red apples were also enjoyable anyway.
He picked one of the apples. It wasn't the best looking apple, but wild fruit always looked worse that it tasted. After cleaning it, he took a bite. It was certainly good enough for consumption. In fact, it was better than he expected.
For a moment, Kyle's mind went back to the cow. A cow tied to a catapult was not an usual sight. Sure, he had heard of catapulting rotting and diseased animals into sieged cities as a form of biological warfare, but the cow he saw was alive and healthy. Were his survival instincts so honed that they started working automatically despite the weirdness of the situation?
Glad to have found food, Kyle started thinking about the most important thing, water. There was a large lake near where he first awakened. However, the water bottle he usually carried when working was nowhere to be seen. Kyle whispered a silent curse, muffled by the apple bits in his mouth. The trip back to civilization would be restricted to the river's margin. At least the river seemed to lead to where he wanted to go.
Having finished the apple, Kyle picked as many more as he could and started carrying them back to where he left the group. He would've liked to be able to carry more. Maybe the cow could be skinned to make some crude bags. Unlike the water bottle, the knife he used for any unexpected work that required cutting was still with him. The knife was too short to be used as a weapon effectively, but he had a sword for a reason. The knife was a tool, one that could be used to skin the cow. That cow was proving to be very useful.
Kyle took back his silent curse. His situation wasn't as bad as it seemed initially.
ACTION: Pick as many apples as can be carried, bring them back to the group so they can eat.
OOC: (To Dudes) He has the knife. I know I listed it as one of his weapons in the bio and you told me to have only the bow and the sword to make it fair for the others. As I said, it's a tool and very poor as a weapon. Kyle may use it in desperation if he loses both his bow and sword, but provided that he has access to at least one, that knife will never be used in combat. Still, if you'd like to have that knife out, I can edit out the part about skinning the cow and have Kyle whisper a second silent curse.

Kyle finds himself in an unknown place, unsure of how he got there. After he overcomes his confusion, he starts mentally mapping out his surroundings. There's some man made structure in the distance, seemingly a temple of sorts. While it seems to be in ruins, there may be other people nearby who could provide information.
But more important than information is nourishment. While looking around to find some sort of fruit bearing tree, he notices the cow tied to the catapult. The catapult is useless, but it could be dismantled for the ropes. Those might be useful on the trip. The cow is free meat.
Kyle notices the two people approaching the cow. He decides to inform them of his assessments.
"Hey, you two!", he shouts, trying to get their attention. "Since you're already there, get some meat out of that cow. It may be the only meat we'll see for a while. And get those ropes out of the catapult as well, you never know when those might be useful." Then he points at some trees a short distance away. "I'm going to go over there and see if I can find some fruit."
And with that, he heads off, as he said he would, without even waiting for an answer.
ACTION: Search trees for fruit.

What Videogames Are You Playing Right Now?

I picked up GG because I found BlazBlue obnoxious and pandering. I'll take demon wings and lasers over nigh-topless squirrels, thank you.
Not to mention how GG just feels... more fluid? There's less crap between the move you want to do in your head and the command you have to put in to do it. Characters don't have more moves than they need. I really, really dig that - combos are made of up your normal attacks, not 40-50 extra attacks that only become available mid-combo like BB or a lot of 3D fighters.
Point taken. Although I enjoy both, I have to admit I prefer Guilty Gear. Your criticism of Blazblue is entirely valid.
Maybe they should put Daisuke back in charge...

Guilty Gear
Yes, that is what you've been missing. It is indeed super fun.
And Dizzy was the final boss in Guilty Gear X. Former boss characters are always going to be awesome. I'm more of a Sol guy myself, but then again, I have this habit of picking the main character in fighting games. Though I also tend to dabble a bit in Axl or Johnny once in a while.
Guilty Gear was the game that got me into fighting games, with its hectic gameplay, wacky character designs, and absolutely METAL soundtrack. It's likely the main reason why one of my dreams is to design the cast of a fighting game.
And Daisuke Ishiwatari is pretty much the Leonardo da Vinci of gam mak. He was the lead designer for Guilty Gear, did a bunch of artwork including the character designs, composed the soundtrack, voiced Sol and even found some time write code for the game. He is a god amongst men.
You might also want to pick up Blazblue. It's a sort of spiritual successor to Guilty Gear made by the same team. I think Continuum Shift also has a PSP port.

author=Nightowlauthor=Mr_DetectiveThe women probably got scared and shitted out some blood as part of an emergency period prior to their death.
Lemme guess... It 's a female restroom, but this perverted guy came in for some reason, and got his head chopped off. :P
By the way, the sink tile at the bottom looks a bit awkward like that. ;)
Then who moved their bodies? I see no dead women there.
