@slimeborgi if you want to show off your cool animation you can use the neat and easy to use program GIFcam and record your game that way.
I really like the sprites you have on the battlefield so far, and the text is nice and aliased without being hard to read. :) Did there used to be more enemies on the field? Just asking because they're off center.

Where to put Game Jams
Is it alright if I announce a Yume Nikki fangame jam I'm hosting here in the forums? And if it is, what board would I make the topic under?
Persona 5, Streaming, and the Impact of Spoilers in Story-Driven Games
@JosephSeraph your mom is awesome.
Usually if I find spoilers for something it's either through someone posting a picture of the game or through someone talking to me on or offline about it. I tend to avoid spoilers from videos since usually they're labeled "Let's Play This Video Game: Part 24", and that spoils nothing unless there's a fantastically click bait-y title or title card on it. I won't know anything about any plot twist unless I click on them on purpose, and if I don't want spoilers, well, I won't click on them.
I'm not sure why they went to all this trouble to keep the game spoiler free on Youtube. I would understand it more if it was a plain old visual novel with few moral choices and no gameplay: watching an LP of that is basically experiencing the game without paying for it. Persona has much more to experience in it than that, so restricting people from seeing spoilers of later sections of the game is just silly.
...maybe they just want people to have a taste of the game and then go out and buy it for themselves to see how the plot ends with the let's play restriction? Like, end it on a cliff hanger as if telling the viewers "You want more of this? Go out and buy it!" *places tin foil hat on head*

Ahhhh ok, I'm cool with that. If it's supposed to be at an angle, then that's another story :p (And sorry about that - I'm not the best editor myself OTL)
Good luck! c:

(Here's a better look at the sprite)
I think the reason Bricabrac says it's not in the same style is because the character sprite is out of perspective. Your character is in sort of a flat 2D frontal perspective instead of the 3/4ths perspective the rest of the area is in. If you look at the top of your character's head, the light on the hair is coming from the top right, and is on the outer edge of the hair. However, the top of your structures has the light coming straight from the top and

This is a really quick edit of the sprite to show you what I mean (sorry!). This way, the hair has more structure and falls closer to the same style the rest of the sprites are. The hair isn't the only thing out of perspective: your character's coat would curve around in the back rather than be straight across.
I'm also gonna say that your character's clothes under their coat (red shirt, blue bottoms, & brown shoes) all have the same grayscale value. That is, if you put it into grayscale, the 3 colors look exactly the same. They blend into each other a bit. I think if you adjust one of them to be darker or lighter that would also help. The skin color and the coat also have the same value - I didn't even realize your character had different colored hands until I zoomed into the sprite! Adding either a border or making the coat or hands darker would also help.
The heart on your map is is also in the wrong perspective. The wrong part is showing. ...I had a hard time describing it, so I edited it to show you instead, pardon owo"

You had it showing at a diagonal before. With this edit, it shows from the top.
Otherwise, the sprites on your map look nice and fancy.
I hope that helps in some way!

Should you be interested (and using Chrome) here is the extension I use. It makes the internet's tendency to latch onto annoying catchphrases infinitely more tolerable.
Excellent, thank you. Now I can have skeletons infesting every site I touch.

If you do the one about RPG Maker games becoming illegal you need to set it to dynamically query the current year so that it stays relevant in 2018
I thought it would be extra funny if you looked back on the quote in 2018 and realized "welp, they're still not illegal yet". You could just rephrase it to "Maybe this year will finally be the year that RPG Maker games become illegal" instead so you wouldn't have to do anything funky.

Oh, this came from an anonymous RPG Maker confession blog where someone said "RMN is infested with SJWs" so someone responded "I can't believe RMN is infested with skeletons", referring to that old browser extension that automatically changes SJW to Skeleton.
AHH YEAH THANK YOU FRIEND I'm glad you were there for this

Except I forgot that I recently changed it from skeleton to robocop.
What a wonderful extension

I'd like to present bits and pieces of silliness I've collected over the ages of running a resource blog. Here are some of the more recent highlights
We also have some good motivational post as well.
I love the tumblr RPG Maker community man. B^)
Edit: I can't find the post, but this one is my favorite (hopefully it doesn't sound too negative, just silly!)
what is the real rpg horror? - spawned into a ton of funny replies about game development woes.
I can't believe RMN is infested with skeletons. - I can't remember what this one was from but it's my favorite. I think it was over some really silly drama that happened with someone getting their game banned from rmn for making sock puppet accounts and an anonymous user getting upset over it. Mocking ensued.
I'm in the horror communist dev school RPG maker game fandom - someone proposed a really weird idea for a satire rpg maker game that had communism in it for some reason. Silliness ensued. You can read the saga here.
Thank Yanfly for my life. - Other people then added a few more script makers as well if you'd like variations.
there is nothing stopping you from setting the price is right losing horn to play whenever your allies die in rpg maker
*edits the vocab section of the rpg maker script for custom battle messages* hacked
Working with RPG Maker makes me feel like Frankenstein. IT LIVEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i figured out how to put youtube poops in my rpg maker game… life is great

We also have some good motivational post as well.
Don’t stress over popularity or whether or not it will impress many people. What matters is if you like what you create. -bitt
Game development is like climbing a giant mountain. Everyday you take a few steps and it doesn’t really seem like you are any closer to the top. It’s not until the very end that you can finally see the peak.
just because you are not the best at something does not mean you are not good at it
Remember, you should like your game, and like working on it. Don’t worry about what anyone else says on it. You like it.
You have to have confidence and believe in your game, and more importantly, yourself.
As long as there's someone who will appreciate the work involved with creation, the effort is time is well spent. - from Cave Story.
This post has a lot of nice things.
There’s no grading scale on good or bad ideas. You can always change it later.

Maybe 2017 will finally be the year that RPG Maker games become illegalThat was said as a joke, and then the person said "ok, if you guys get rid of funko pop, then rpg maker games can stay legal" (paraphrasing). We're still working on it.
What do you like or dislike about RM Horror games?
I like horror games because they can give you a lot to think about. Yume Nikki had me thinking about what exactly made Madotsuki dream these weird and bleak things, and why the only way she would leave her room was off of her balcony. OFF presented the player & player character relationship and how players tend to assume the PC they play as is the hero unless told otherwise, and the morality of the world presented in it. The witch's house didn't have much plot content, but it did leave me wondering what happens to Viola & her father after the fact.
Horror is one of the few genres where you can give players a bad ending without them being disappointed. You can explore all sorts of odd concepts with the genre you can't do with others.
Horror games can also provide some really cool settings, like Ib's museum, Lisa the First's crazy weird area after the house, and Dreaming Mary's dream world. I love settings like that. I don't think you have to stick with surreal stuff for horror of course, Forest of Drizzling Rain's spooky town with a spooky history was a great location to set up a horror story in (and you can do it in RTP). An interesting setting is the base of good level design & atmosphere, two of the most important aspects in horror.
The game part of horror game can vary from game to game. I think Ib was a good game because of how much thought was given to it's puzzles and the multiple opportunities you got to go back and explore the rest of the museum. It wasn't too spooky, but it was enjoyable to play. Some games try to scare you via the gameplay, others, the story. Games that do both are fantastic, but it's hard to pull off.
