Dragon Fantasy II: Play Something Day Edition!

: RELEASE SOMETHING Edition!

The Main Story:
It has been 100 years since the end of the first Dragon Fantasy. Veryl has been destroyed and the planet's original power has been restored. However, even the Crystal's could not destroy the power of the Dark Lord comletely. Instead, they destroyed the castle's outer shell and contained the vast power of Venaitura within a sphere of light.

But now...the skies once again are covered with a vast and expansive wave of darkness. The temple where the orb was contained had been breached and the power of Venaitura stolen! Using it's power, a fiend by the name of Emperor Xyan has opened a gateway to the Dark World and has called forth a plethora of demons to do his bidding.

You are the Hero's decendant. Having the blood of the legendary Hero who had defeated Veryl, the King of Zebon calls you and your allies to his chamber. He tells you of your duty, and thus you must embark on an epic quest in order to save your homelands from destruction once again!

Character Classes:

-Unlike in the first Dragon Fantasy where you had a pre-set party with specific classes, you are free to choose whomever you want your party to consist of from the beginning in this second installment. Your main character is ALWAYS the Hero class, but you may chose his/her gender and three other companions and their classes.-

The Hero
Info: The class that your main character is set as. He/she is named by you, and is also given a gender by you. The Hero is pretty well-rounded, and is able to cast a nice variety of Healing Spells, Damaging Spells, and Status Spells. His/Her stats are pretty even, and he/she does not fall short on many things.

The Knight
Bearing a strong ATK and DEF, the knight is the basic damage dealer. He can cast no magic, and has no MP, but he can dish out the damage against enemies using his physical attacks. They bear high HP, but low INT.

The Mage
A class based soley around Black--or damaging--magics. They learn the greatest ammount of Black Magic spells, and have
a high MP count. They have a low DEF and ATK count, but make up for it in AGL and INT.

The Priest
The Priest is a class based around the art of White Magic; Magic which focuses on healing the wounded and curing the ill. They receive the greatest ammount of White Magic spells, and are also one of the fastest mages. They have a high MP, INT, and AGL count, but lack HP and DEF. A must have for any adventurer.

The Inflicter
Revolving mainly around inflicting hindering status-effects against the enemy, the Inflicter has no real abilities which directly
inflict any sort of damage. However, they have great AGL and MP, and learn boosting type spells earlier than any other class.

The Sage
Having access to both White and Black Magic spells, and bearing the highest INT count of all the mages, the Sage is a fairly diverse maigc user. However, it lacks a majority of the higher level spells from both areas, thus it must fall back on weaker spells as it makes progress. The sage has the highest INT and MP count, but lacks HP, AGL and DEF.

The Dark Knight
A fusion of both the Knight and Mage classes. The Dark Knight has access to a limited number of Black Magic spells, but has a great ATK and DEF count. It is also one of the two fastest mage-type classes.

The Holy Knight
A fusion of both the Knight and Priest classes. The HolyKnight has access to a limited number of White Magic spells, but has a great ATK and DEF count. It is also one of the two fastest mage-type classes.

The Berserker
A purely physcial-based class that has no mind of it's own. Bearing the absolute highest ATK count of all classes, the Berserker can break down some enemies in one fell swoop. They also bear a high HP count, but lack in DEF and AGL.

Screen Shots:

ADDITIONS:
-Higher HP and MP for classes, and a more balanced enemy database.

Release Something! Day IV: Discussion Thread!

@ Dungeon Quest:

I always misread the title and see it as "Dragon Quest" for whatever reason. It just looks so...similar! And the names...! They aren't the only thing the two games have in common, either! (Referring to the very first Dragon Quest).

What else, you may ask? Well, the overall addictiveness level is one thing! Regardless of how simple it may look, Dungeon Quest, by Mr.Nemo, is a highly enjoyable game. Simple, short, and extremely sweet. Very addictive to boot!

If you've ever played the first Dragon Quest and are a fan of such a genre, then you'll probably see where I'm coming from with what I'm saying. You play Dragon Quest and the only real thing there is to do is gain levels and hunt for gold, along with buying new equipment from said gold. Sure, you could do a bit of exploration, too...but it's not as rewarding as some of the later games in the series! Anyway, regardless of how simple it sounds...it's fun. It's addicting, fun, and enjoyable!

The graphics in Dungeon Quest are awesome. They give me this great feeling, and make me want to play it over again just so I can experience it all one more time! Not only do the graphics make me feel that way, but the gameplay does, too! You have a wide enough variety of paths, characters, and monsters to fight for numerous playthroughs before tiring.

A great game, indeed!

Well done, Mr.Nemo! I hope we'll get something similar in the future!

Release Something! Day IV: Discussion Thread!

@ Hellion:

Curses! Then that means that I've more than likely caused some people to hate me a little more, as I tried to pick-pocket the headmaster...and was found out. Ku ku ku. Clerics don't often make out to be good thieves! =X

Release Something! Day IV: Discussion Thread!

Holy crap, this topic just went up another two pages since this morning! Like most everyone else has sais (or if they haven't, they should!) this Release Something day was a complete success!~ I think we have a ton more games than we had before! 'Tis awesome. A wide range of stuff to choose from! The variety!!!

Also @ Hellion:
I'll have to once again thank you for the use of the Chipset, Kentona! I'm glad that you let me use it. =D

Also, I'd have to agree with the starting enemies. The Drakee's creamed me, even with a second party member!

Also, does the fact that I tried to steal from the headmaster at the academy, or that I'm a Cleric have anything to do with why most people at the Inn hate me? >_> I only got Allanon to join me before entering The Pit.

Also, can't wait for the Podcast! Even if DFII isn't in there, it's still a nice thing to listen to and see what the other people have to say about the games they decided to play! =O

Dragon Fantasy II by Ephiam:
Holy 8-bit, batman!

The good news is, this game is an outright PERFECT clone/hybrid of an NES Dragon Warrior/Final Fantasy game. Unlike all the other games I have played so far, it had no major problems or bugs. It is well made, polished, and appealing for all the same reasons that Hero's Realm is. The graphics and sounds perfectly evoke the exact right feel that the creator was going for, so great job to Ephiam on that.

Huzzah! I'm glad to have gotten feedback on Dragon Fantasy II so soon! To be honest, I wasn't sure that I would get anything untill about Page 3-4, and that was if I was lucky. Ha ha. Sounds odd, yeah, but I've mainly experienced that the graphics are what pull people in, and when some people see it has NES graphics they instantly flee! 'Tis a shame.

Anywhoo, thanks for the comment. Greatly appreciated that you gave this a shot.

The bad news is, I never had the patience for the original Dragon Warrior/FF games for NES, and the same goes for Dragon Fantasy II. I stopped playing after going through the cave to the south, crossing several bridges, and winding up at a tower, which apparently was not the tower I was looking for, and included only a vague hint and a door I couldn't open. I was frustrated with the inability to save anywhere but in town, and as a result I stopped playing right there. I would strongly suggest making saving on the map possible. It is less likely I'll pick the game up again, largely because I'll have to redo all of that somewhat tedious progress that I was unable to save after completing the first time.

Bad new already! So I'm about to have some fun, huh?
Several other people have also quit in the same place! It's strange, but it seems that the part of the game you've managed to reach is some sort of...bad luck zone. But I suppose it's because when I made those parts I was only starting out, and I didn't really have a firm grip on what I really wanted to do with everything.

And ah! A note on the saving buisness! If you (anyone) happens to see a statue in any dungeon (Stone statue holding a red orb) try and examine it. You can usually save using one of those.

My only other issue was balance; I feel like I would be stronger if I had a party full of Knights, rather than the Knight, Mage, Priest party I have. The Knight does almost as much damage as the mage, and can do it as much as he wants, rather than needing MP to do it. If the Mage had more MP, it wouldn't be an issue. Also, for whatever reason, my custom name for my mage like...didn't take when I entered it, so I have a mage named mage by accident, and a hero named Hiro on purpose.

Right. I'm constantly trying to make the game more balanced than it is, but I usually end up either swaying it more towards the party, or more towards the enemies. It's never...even! But I'm once again fiddling with the MP and trying to change it so that it better suits the gameplay.

Once again, thanks!

I'll be gettin' to some comments once I've played enough of the things I'm tryin'.
