ATTN EVERYONE: Ellipses only have THREE periods, as such; "..." Not "......." and not "'.." but "..." That is all.

I humbly disagree! Four can suffice when three do not deliver the proper impact!
Well.... I mean yeah, I suppose if you mean proper character ellipses like
"..."
And naught else, then yes, only three.
Personally I like to do them vertically. Makes a statement.

Y'know these periods should really be in bold.

I once saw a forum owner use "used two dots in an ellipses instead of three" as one of a few reasons to perma-ban someone. Best part was when he was like "I would have accepted four dots as a typo, but two dots is just laziness!"
On an unrelated note, I've noticed that it seems that the more someone abuses ellipses, the longer each of their ellipses tend to be.

While we're on the "do it right" subject I have the burning desire to say that colour, honour, etc are spelled with a U.
I feel like ellipsis are a big problem in my writing. Not using the wrong number of dots, but just using them too much all over the place.

Only if you're British.
I admit I usually use the British 'grey' instead of the American 'gray,' though.
I abuse ellipses like there's no tomorrow and it's something I need to work on.
But I'd like to think I'm not at Squall Leonheart levels of ellipsis abuse though.

50 shades of pure, awesome, spelt right, british Grey!
...was that a bad joke?
Thanks for posting this, man. There's nothing I despise more than incorrect uses of ellipses when it comes to writing. Horrible/inconsistent text disposition is also pretty bad IMO.
Why is everyone arguing about ellipses when the real menace to writing is single spaces after sentences and the non-use of the Oxford comma?

Three period ellipses should be used to show that you've elided a sentence or less of text. Four periods are for when you elide more than that.
