Something bugs me about the trees all lined up but I like the rest of the map.
I don't know where it's ripped form, but getting rid of square-edge coastlines is always good.

Oooh, I like Seren as well.

Also, I think it's Sir Samuel's arms - they might be too skinny. It's hard to put my finger on that one, though haha.

Very impressive, Caz! You've definitely got the colouring and the making me jealous of skills down pat.
I really like the lady on the left and the shine on her hair. The little goggles dude is awesome, too. Is he related the Dr. Coolbeard? I ask because they both have similarly cool facial hair. :)

I do have some thoughts about the guy on the far right in the armour. Something about him seems a little odd to me. I am not quite certain what it is.
I think it's the arms going straight up and coming from the shoulderpads and not from his shoulders. It might just be the armour making it look that way?
I can't be certain. He still looks awesome and I love the griffon heraldry.

I want more now. What are their names?

The old sprite has a darker side which was achieved in the tutorial with the gradient that you say is unnecessary. Maybe I am not understanding something?
