I mean, I would definitely agree with you at least partially - if I had actually done anything to "blow things out of proportion" or otherwise contribute to his ban. But I never did. I never even reported the guy. All I did was post my response, in which I straight out asked if he was trying to threaten me or not, and waited for a reply. When I came back the next morning, he was banne.
Personally, I too think that the staff's reaction might have been a little too harsh. But I also won't pretend I'm sad to see this person gone. Since even though I never truly felt their - possible - threats were believable or frightening whatsoever, I will admit their attitude and behaviour were unnecessarily aggressive and kind of disturbing. Anyway, what's done is done, and I trust the mods to know why they chose to act the way they did.

Eh, maybe, but I also feel like overall context makes this instance at least understandable. Like I probably wouldn't've made that call, but it doesn't seem really out of line to me. Possibly just because that whole exchange was freakin weird.
The dude was a weird asshole, I saw that coming from a mile away with his first posts. But yes, very extreme and and stretched for a ban.

Kloe, I don't think he made a death threat, the dude was talking with yes, abit of pompous flaire, but not a death threat.

I mean on the one hand, it does seem a bit extreme for a ban, but on the other, the way that conversation was going already had a weird, unhinged kind of vibe to it, so I can't really blame anyone involved for being not-so-charitable in their interpretation.
And, y'know, I also can't complain too much about strict guidelines WRT death threats these days. :/ Like, maybe if you can't avoid that in communication, you need to rethink how you communicate.

I think that when someone personally interprets it as a threat, that's where a problem really comes up. It's one thing for a person to speak figuratively, but it become something entirely else when someone responds, "Are you threatening me?" No apology. No clarification. Really?
Wait, I assumed whatever threat was deleted, it was really the "heads will roll" thing? I mean I get that it can be assumed as a death threat, and as such it's really mean, but it does sound a little out of proportion as previously mentioned above and aa bit like... General? Less "I am gonna kill you" and more "people will die". Idk though, it's better that they're gone if they're the kinda person who would make death threats.

The guy was a douche for sure but yeah I have to agree with Infectionfiles. Seemed to be aimed more at society than an individual person.
I really don't think that was a threat against a user, but more of a general thing.

It doesn't matter whether he really thought that someone was going to go and attack them or not, the fact that someone went so far as to threaten to do so over a discussion is beyond the pale. Threatening violence towards others is never on.
We also don't like people threatening to hack the site, even if we're pretty sure they couldn't if they tried. Doesn't mean we won't ban asses for the threat, though.
Or if someone threatens to rape someone else, even if they're half a world away. Still getting banned.
Violence threats of any kind directed towards anyone over a conversation, especially extreme violence in the form of a death threat, is just not on and we discussed the post in question and decided straight out that it was not something we want on the site - that's no way to foster a community that gets along well together.

I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.
