Do you remember a time when games just needed to be games?

I remember a time when games needed to eat as many quarters up as possible.

If you want to play a bunch of terrible levels, leave out 8-1. I'm telling you man. It alone is worse than anything else these suckers can throw at you combined.
It's worse than The Unreachable Star?

Nah, it's not that bad. 8-4 on the other hand...

Challenge accepted.

No no, Seiromem. YOU have to play the WHOLE game.

If you want to play a bunch of terrible levels, leave out 8-1. I'm telling you man. It alone is worse than anything else these suckers can throw at you combined. Don't torture yourself. Or just do 8-1 by itself and leave it at that.

Plumber Man isn't a very good game. But I'm still happy with it. Because that's exactly what I set out to do.

Keep in mind that we've got a wiki now and people are open to testing other levels. Having everything neat and organized means less confusion for them as well as us.

OHP! I keep remembering more things we ought to talk about!

It would be a big help to me and the other judges if participants properly labeled their submissions, and the correct format for putting stuff in folders is properly set out in the Rules. Something like we did in CMS would be best: Developer Name, Difficulty Level (World No.), and Level Name.

" Isrieri-1-GrassyGrasslandsOfGrass.lvl "

All the level graphics should go into a graphics folder with the exact same name as the level. The level and MP3 files ought to be outside the graphics folder (I know you can put MP3s inside the folder as well, but sometimes it doesn't work). Then all 3 of those file types need to be zipped together.

The other thing I'm wondering about
author=Rules
Each participant may submit up to EIGHT LEVELS, and you cannot submit more than one level to the same gallery.

I still think this is a good way of handling the submissions, but we may end up with quite a few people on board. I'm predicting that, bare minimum, we'll get as many people as we did in CMS. I just think that by only allowing 1 submission per world, we may encounter difficulties placing the levels down the road: I predict a lot of submissions for later worlds and very few for the earlier ones.

Of course, that's not an issue if we're going to move levels around independently of this rule. This isn't really a problem, just something I think we should keep an eye out for.

And the last thing is my strong recommendation to not lock boss levels behind a star count that requires players to beat all the levels preceding the boss. That was a horrible horrible horrible idea in RMN Bros 3 and one of the biggest flaws of the game. We should have very minimal star requirements for proceeding. We may not even need to lock the final level behind all the stars in the game if we get enough levels in the project: The only reason I did that in CMS was because my level was ridiculous.

Okay, hold on a sec.

The boss levels would have to be part of the hub itself, and considering we're using NPCs for level portraits, it would limit our design options considerably. Even worse, we'd probably run out of sections before we covered all the boss levels.

Why? Why can't they just be in their own seperate levels? Why do we have to have bosses in a hub to begin with? How does this benefit us? Will players get annoyed by this at all?

Revenge of the Contentious Blog

I really think it would be best to have some ability to pick your poison here. Not enough people do that, allow skippable content in their levels. I see no reason not to let players just pick 2 sections out of 8 rather than forcing them down 4. It offers more variety.

If the problem here is our content not getting seen, as long as the level is fun then nearly everyone will go back into it and check out the other sections. On their own time.

It's not really that big of a deal in the end, I would just like it to be optional if I had the preference as a player: I would think it a lot cooler.

King Kooper's Kult Klassic and nin8halos' Wily boss are pretty similar now that I think about it. Both require you to do that trick with kicking the shell upward. The difference is that one is more demanding than the other with the timing.

Good job completing the challenge, Desmo! Sorry my level was so tough. I can make easy levels, they're just not as much fun to make or play. In my defense, I think my level inspired some of your best commentary! :D

I imagined you with a big grin on your face when you beat Bowser. That was lucky!

Money Upfront - 7 Points
Ultimate Library - 4 Points
Super Garden - 2 Points
Gun & 3 Bullets - 1 Point

With all the knowledge in the world at my disposal. I can effectively research any topic I want to, or any kind of literature I want.

A full kitchen and garden means unlimited food and kitchenware. I can eat healthily. In that kitchen, there are bound to be knives.

By utilizing my bedroom as a space to train, I can read up on any martial art I choose, picking one that best fits me, and taking time to master it.

By choosing to take my money upfront, I effectively have all the money in one place (either on my person or in the bank, doesn't specify) and it rightfully belongs to me since it's allowed in the rules.

The skylight is an access to outside. There are books one can read on escaping from tightly guarded locations. Equipped with a honed body, sharp mind, multiple sharp inplements, and a gun I'd only use to piss people off, I can escape the facility with my 10 million dollars after maybe one year is out.

Checkmate.
