...okay, I've no idea why it took me this long to actually play this, but HOOOOOOLY SHIT THIS IS SO AWESOME HNNNGH <3
I just met the fiery young man in the graveyard and I'm quittin' for the evening, but I'll definitely come back and finish this! It's so much fun. ;w;
Thanks. Good luck... there is an unintended difficulty spike coming up in the form of a boss. His mechanic was poorly thought out and I've been procrastinating addressing it. Did I say procrastinating? I meant it was a lower priority to new content. Another spike happens once you get to the manor area. I overestimated how efficient players would be by then (it was actually even worse before NicoB playtested it, I just wasn't generous enough when I made quick adjustments).
Not to discourage you from playing, but your save file will be incompatible with the finished product for reasons I could've prevented with better planning. Though, that's not coming out for a bit since I'm a legendary procrastinator.

These are pretty cool, and I bet doing them in a simple, super-deformed style really helps when translating them into sprites.

author=UPRCauthor=CrazeI started my project in 2004 sometime.
VX has been out for four years, and XP longer. That is hardly an excuse anymore.
It's been longer than that.

This sounds so familiar at times, but I just can't place it...
It's bugging the hell out of me too.

Craze, you are actually getting me to consider trying VX Ace :)
I'm actually already sold on Ace. It's just a matter of tying loose ends first.

Why do you care so much what maker people use?
I think he wants to encourage growth.

RPG Maker VX is not "blocky." It does not have a "blockiness filter." It does not magically make games "blocky." That is the RTP. Also, you guys like Necropolis. =P
That's because I'm a Popular Guy, which means they have no choice but to like the look of Necropolis. I actually think the VX RTP looks nice and don't mind the blockiness. I was talked out of getting it when I heard you only had one tileset (which is fairly large, but not large enough). I must've vented for about an hour in IRC that day, because it really upset me.
Discouragement
Games have many elements, so I work on another aspect. If I'm not jiving with the game side of it, I might make graphics or whatever for a week or more. Still progress, but satisfying in a different way. I do more procrastinating than working anyway. Also: Nobody cares that you're sad. This should've been drilled into you before you became a teenager, let alone a grown man.
What are you thinking about? (game development edition)
I spent like no time on my current title screen. It also has an error in it that I've noticed since the day I first loaded it into RPG Maker, but haven't cared enough to fix yet. It's just a title screen.

author=KingArthurYou're right. But one is more creative than the other. I pretty explicitly stated "the same game with rips versus original graphics," meaning that all aspects of the game are identical except their graphics. Both are employed in an equally creative way, but in one example the arrangement of the pixels themselves has creative origin also. I am not arguing that a game with original graphics is better than every game without original graphics, because their value is more complex than that.
And by that you mean to say that using pre-made materials isn't creative? Even with pre-made materials, it still takes creativity and effort to use them well.
