Out Of Control Cops - A Serious Problem In America

https://38.media.tumblr.com/52293efab7c066b1db2aac1020257ef4/tumblr_ng01fkz52a1u4vvmko1_1280.jpgHere, have a thing.

I can't believe I'm dumb enough to get involved in this topic, but I want to point out: British police officers do not carry guns. As such, including Britain on that list is misleading.

The point of the image stands, but I just wanted to point that out. It bugged me. Japan does issue firearms (a smaller caliber revolver), if I'm not mistaken (I might be), so that fits. From what I've read, Japan actually has some of the lowest crime rates in the world, with white collar crime being one of the more common ones. Makes me wonder how the Japanese legal system works. If anyone has links to insightful information, send them my way?

As for the primary topic... I'm not going to comment on that.

Hartacon Tactics

I found it irritating that unit placement is apparently entirely random. It's a special kind of frustration when my knight is dead before his second turn because he had the misfortune of starting on the far side of the map from the rest of my units, and with two enemies close to him.

The healer starting without a staff was also annoying, but that's really more my fault for not checking her equipment screen before buying gear.

Likewise, the martial artist starting with an axe, but with fist-based skills learned.

The game looks great. The maps are colorful and interesting, but not overloaded with distracting details. The sprites look great and the animations seem pretty smooth. The menus are functional and the skins are nice.

I really wish there was a way to change the keyboard controls, or at least a help screen that lists which key corresponds to what controller button. I still haven't found which keys match the shoulder buttons.

How should we judge games?

For example, would you judge the original Star Wars film on its VFX merits in contrast to today's Hollywood? Of course not. It would be evaluated in the context of 1977 Film.
Hm, amazing prop and set work versus lots of often obvious green screen effects. Tough call. Would be easier if we narrowed down the comparison from the broad 'today's Hollywood.'

But I can honestly say that any film that comes out today that uses actual sets instead of "stand on this green platform in front of this green wall" would get some points for it. It helps the world feel a little more real.

My point with this is that you don't need the shiniest, newest visual techniques to look great. There's a reason some games (admittedly, usually portable ones) still use sprites.

Turn-based strategy RPG? Looks great? Has what looks to be a solid amount of character customization? I want this.

I'm downloading it now. Here's hoping it plays as well as it looks, because it looks really promising.

Using RPG Maker, how realistice would it be to do everything non programming related

Possible? Definitely. A good idea? Not so definitive. If you want everything to be high quality, doing it solo probably isn't reasonable goal.

Look at the Touhou games: Good music and gameplay, only enough story to kick off the game and not even the fans are going to call the art great. Still better than mine by a mile, but "better than shit" isn't the same as being great.

So, uh. Yeah. Totally doable. It can even be a great game. Just don't expect every aspect to be great. I still can't beat a Touhou game without a continue. I'm a horrible fan.

Oh and don't play it. It's bad :P

Damn you, reverse psychology!

What are you thinking about right now?

I've done a few Nuzlockes. Even tried to make a comic to go along with one. Around the seventh page or so I realized I was drawing cute cartoon animals getting mauled. Couldn't stick with the project after that.

What are you thinking about right now?

I'm wondering how much content I'd miss out on if I started putting users on my ignore list.

Why and how does this thing exist in Midgar?!

Shinra's attempt at solving the homeless problem?

Lacking motivation?

Play other games to steal ideas from. I'm only half joking.

I'll second that. I've been replaying the Magi Nation GBC game, since I'm working on a game where HP and MP are the same thing. And the world is heavily, heavily inspired by the setting. And the card game.

Remember, if you're honest about it and don't carbon copy an idea, it's inspiration! It's only stealing if you don't try to build off the idea.

Drilling for motivation when the well is dry

There are countless ways to perceive an event like riding a bus.

A Dante-esque journey through the land of the dead and damned, for example.
