Dragon Quest IX

PEOPLE WHO SAY MAGES SUCK:

You are doing it wrong.

Mages deal damage to multiple foes. Melee characters deal damage to single foes. Mages deal as much damage as a Warrior does to multiple foes.

Also, read the bestiaries for elemental tips. Alsoalso, Aceleratle/Sap are very important if you're not over-powered - note to mention Oomph. If you want to go nuts, use Spellcraft to get the Scary Glare (?) ability. It lowers magical defense - to kill Tyrantula, I had my hero psyche up to 100 while my Mage used Scary Glare/Sap, then they combo'd Crackle for a total of ~400-500 damage. Two shots of this with my Priest and... I think Warrior adding in hits when they could made my Mage feel awesome in his ultratranny clothes (he is wearing small undies, the mage-only turban and that cross-dressing-prone Fizzle-retardant Suit).

...that previous paragraph was me explaining how to make Mages useful damage-wise in boss battles.

BUT SERIOUSLY: Mages attack MANY ENEMIES. Use Bang. Use Bang all the time (actually I don't since my Mage uses a whip to chip in a bit; I don't want two characters both using wands since my priest is Beezelfreezing Pink Sanguinis like a pro (even though she's currently an Armamentalist and my Thief is grinding out Priest points to upgrade Faith and be a better lame healer (pipe dream))).

Makes sense to me.

Controversy: Which FF game ruined the series?

If I'm going to be honest, I don't think there's anything particularly "wrong" with the series. Granted, I haven't played any of the games prior to part IV, I didn't really enjoy parts V and XII, and I haven't played XIII, but I do think the games (that I played) were excellent, top-of-the-line stuff. The games have generally remained relevantly consistent quality-wise. I may not have agreed with all of their stylistic choices, but I wouldn't call any of them "bad" games. The two that I didn't like weren't bad, they just weren't my type of games.

However, my tastes have changed and I'm drown to games that are a little less conventional and more abstract (thanks a lot MegaTen). Final Fantasy doesn't really give me what I want anymore, but that doesn't have much to do with the games themselves. It's just that my interests have changed.

That said, parts IV, VII and VIII especially are among my favo RPGs ever.

The Megaten games were going to be my next topic, if someone doesn't beat me to it. I get tired of seeing the same old topics...there is life here. I know it. I'll drag it out kicking and screaming, if need be.

Controversy: Which FF game ruined the series?

The whole L'cie, Fal'cie thing...made no sense to me. If the words god/demigod/chosen/slave exists...why the need for fanciness? To make the same sound more grandiose and exotic than it is?

i dont get it

Forget about it. I was going somewhere that this thread was not about...internet, social retardation, etc...wrong place, wrong topic.

Back to discussing where FF fell off. :)

Let's discuss...Suikoden!

Feel free to skip 4. You won't miss anything.

Pretentious Bullshit and Missing the Point: The Sequel to the Game to the Movie

Everybody(if they are sane) hits a point where they grow up and can't understand how the younger generation can like or possibly participate in certain things.

Welcome to grownup.

Babby Maker Network

Amazing that game geeks can make such cute kids.

I wish my daughter was still a toddler and not talking back, breaking things, and being spoiled rotten
by me.

Where will you be in 10 years? (Discussion)

Hmm. I'll be 39...I'm already semi-retired from pharmacy due to my side businesses taking off but hopefully the universe plans to keep me healthy, financially comfortable, and sane.

Double hmm...maybe I should pay someone to finish making my damn game for me.

Worst videogame character.

I'm not the type who despises and bashes anything and everything dealing with Final Fantasy, but Fran really was a horrible character. She looked horrible, she sounded horrible, she did nothing and was a complete and utter boring waste of piece. No redeemable qualities.

Finally! You get it. Fran was terrible. The cold, wise, mysterious exotically beautiful outcast member of a xenophibic race is so new and different. "The mist burns." Thanks, Fran.

Making leaps and bounds visually but heading backwards in characterization and story.

you won't make up any ground if you pedal that way

Oh, how I love the internet and the "I'm right and that's that" confidence it gives to people that otherwise would know nothing of the word.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand.
