I know almost nothing about game making, but after checking out your mapping ability, you have no reason to worry about your game making abilities.
I know there is a lot more than mapping when it comes to making a game but it seems after reading so many things on this site, the only way to know if you are any good at making games is to put out a demo and ask for others to give suggestions about how you might make the game better.
Some of the people who suggest things are a bit harsh BUT most other game makers here are more than willing to help others improve their abilities.

Give your fellow game makers a chance to see your game and it needs changing, they will help give you that help.

pianotm is right, BUT, the little I did get to play of your game last night, and I was up till 2am playing, was great.
Did not get to far killing things cause' I was so busy running around town finding all the goodies :)

The systems in the game are a little hard to understand, but it's been a while since I've played anything with so many upgrades and magic things to create :)

20 minutes or so and no. Keep in mind that this was something put together rather quickly for the sake of a) working with a new program and b) to see if I can make something more or less playable within the trial period.

Well, it was playable UNTIL :)
Blizzard says it hits ALL enemies but you only hit one :(
Smelling Salts: no description as to what it does.
Character of MAY: while not in battle, her skills are brightly lit so active. If you hit enter you lose MPs :(
When you talk to The Merchant, you are not able to SELL excess equipt., I need money for items.....

Other than the above, and considering it was short made for a contest....you can skate on the problems....OH, the monster at the end was way to strong :)

I was a very pretty game graphically, the interaction between characters was cute. Overall, a nice game so keep working and pump out a few great games we can all enjoy :)
