Rise of an Author

I may as well place this for future reference, or I may end up forgetting what is next on the list or what was my conclusion at the time. I guess edits are best for typos and updates...

May I humbly suggest putting your ideas into a text file? I'm not saying that you should never post your ideas on a forum. People share ideas on the "What are you working on" thread. That's how that thread works. However, sometimes, it's best to just do a bit of brainstorming on your own before making a commitment to anything.

Though, now that I say this, I must admit to the "crime" of making blogs about a game's development without really thinking things through...

Your abandoned game ideas?

Oh why not?

First and foremost was Nakaishi Wars. It was supposed to be a sci-fi tactical RPG that involved mechs. Outside not not wanting to fish the 'net for mech/sci-fi graphics (yeah, I'm kinda lazy like that), the project was a bit too ambitious for my game-making skills as a whole.

Another project was the utterly nonsensically titled Uchioniko. It was supposed to be a magical-girl RPG. Kinda like Sailor Moon, only with a few personal touches. However, that didn't get very far, 'cause, well, I already had a project that involved high school aged persons.

Ah, Oracle of Askigaga! It was supposed to be something of a coming-of-age story with questions of moral ambiguity on the players part. However, it ended up being little more than a series of fetch quests for "good" characters, where as "evil" characters had... um... different conversation options. It was possible to be "neutral", but, yeah, it was pretty bad, overall!

*Edit: How could I forget Final Fantasy Foolishness - Version Omega, the project that died before it even got started?

Boulders on switches

I did it a bit differently in Matsumori Days, as I was only really dealing with one rock and one switch on the screen, but I think the general concept might be the same.

Information: The closest thing I see as far as VX's or XP's event menu is concerned is Control Variables->Character, but Event ID doesn't seem to be an option. If this is true, to replicate "Get Event ID", one would need a script, as Kazesui suggests.

From a story standpoint, it's nonsensical to have a looping restroom. And, I swear, I saw a delinquent use the "shortcut". I suspect that it's not an event per say, but a property of the map.

But since all's fair in love, war, and Pac-Man references, I think we can just allow flowerthief to make the call on how this should be changed, if at all. Fair enough?

*Edit:
Of course, loops don't make sense but when did bathrooms without entries with toilet bowls outside the stalls make sense?

True, but at least toilet bowls outside of the stalls can theoretically fall under "suspension of disbelief" a bit better than the looping part? I don't know. I'm starting to think that we're both thinking way too much on this in general!

My first game

Here I am, trying to give this guy/gal/thing/whatever a little confidence...

Happy Birthday kentona!

I hear thirty is the new twenty.

Clearly, 32 is the new 20. After converting to hexadecimal format, that is!

Testing

I'll admit that I'm coming from the perspective of focusing on one character. If that character doesn't require getting events from other characters, then an "ignore" feature becomes incredibly useful. Though, to be fair, I never got far enough into the game to get a date sequence to see how much affinity I could get in such a sequence before I upgraded to the new system.

However, the way I was thinking is that while Keika and Miki have some overlap (there may be other overlaps I'm not aware of), Keika's events would be disabled via Ignore in "her" story events, not ones linked to Miki's story events. In other words, if an event is devoted to conditions that deal with getting just Keika's ending, Ignoring her would disable those events. Well, that's the theory, anyway.

I dunno. If you don't really feel like it's necessary, or against the genre, or if you think it would be more fun to tell the girls off (it kinda is), then I guess you can leave it as-is.

Welcome to RMN! Explore your creativity with us!

I need someone who can make a good title screen! I will admit that I'm no good at making pictures of any type on a computer so I need some one to volunteer and design a good title screen. PM me if you want to help and Ill send more details.

There's good artists out there, certainly, but I'm not good at art either. Though it's debatable whether or not that particular piece is any good, but I leave that to the professionals.

avatars

I change on-line avatars, like, once a year. If that.

Then again, I've only been using forums in general for the past three or so years. I'm not at the point where looking at the same avatar over and over gets to me, I guess?

Searching for Yami's Melody HUD

Wow, that's a wall-of-code! Couldn't a link to a locker file, or where you found it, be more appropriate? I dunno. Maybe I'm just talking to myself, here...
