~~Community Project~~

Thanks for telling me absolutely everything I ever wanted to know about this project in the OP.

/sarcasm

On a more serious note, I've got very vague ideas for a space opera that involves mechs (though the "mechs" part would only work if the art direction is up to snuff).

Even if the forest is supposed to be an explorable sub-area (a "dungeon") that's no reason why it should be so square-ish on this map. I would suggest rounding off a few of those edges to make things a bit more natural.

Wait, I'm giving mapping advice? Rolling reality check...

So it's been two weeks, Enterbrain, and you still haven't answered my email. I'm beginning to wonder if you just don't want my m

I think what Star is suggesting is that you simply try to visit the website in a location other than your house. Try the local library, supposing it has internet access. I wouldn't suggest actually doing anything, but it would be an experiment to see if it really is "just you" or if it's a larger problem with your area's connectivity.

*Edit: Oops! Star kinda beat me to it. Oh well.

ITT we tell the poster above us why their favourite game sucks

my favourite game is mkid232

Only when you're getting five pages of updates from Bronze Soul alone.

Someone enlighten me as to how Heroes of Might and Magic II - The Restoration of Erathia can be perceived as "terrible".

The site those technical support lines are on is why I'm not able to buy and activate RMXP in the first place.

Frankly, I'd be more interested in why this is happening rather than why Enterbrain hasn't gotten back to you. I strongly suspect that there's some weirdness going on with your browser, but I have no idea.

Community Project!

I'll be also taking submissions for database items via PM on this blog post.

This works to some degree. Such as a map that requires no switches, a critter entry, or basically anything that doesn't need to look at the database. But what about a map with treasure scattered all over the place? Wouldn't the map designer want to know what the possible items are? What about a map that's crawling with encounters? Such a feat requires knowing what the possible monster parties are, which means knowing what monsters are out there, and their possible items drops which, in turn, means knowing what the item database looks like. You don't want people just tossing you maps whose encounter/treasure intent is one thing, but the "master" database says something else! At least, I'm assuming you want some kind of consistency?

This is why I think Befuddled Quest worked, and has become something of a community series. The only things people have to worry about is making awesome puzzles. They were assured that switches would be disabled and variables would be set to 0 upon entering/exiting any given room. There were no encounters or treasure to be had, so there was no need to alter the database. Ever.

My role is supervisor, lead designer, and production manager.

I'm looking at Corfaisus' response to your initial post. Perhaps I'm assuming too much from it, but the original content of your blog post was probably something to the effect of asking other people for story ideas. A lead designer should have a some vision of what the game is about. If you don't have that vision, I doubt people will want to get involved.

On a different note I thought, "The Hole" was a reference to a Black Hole. I was expecting a sci-fi setting. After looking at various other screen shots, the game has more of a fantasy feel to it. What ideas I have for either scenario are rather nebulous, at best, but my thoughts are tending more toward the sci-fi.

Marrend's Review thread

I was afraid the update "ate" my review of The Astonishing Captain Skull, but it appears to be up now. I'll be starting up Vacant Sky in time.

Deep Fried Questing Grind sounds like it could be humorous/silly. I'll probably intersperse it between the (probably) more serious Klimurik series.

DOING IT! - WEEK FIFTEEN - DOUBLE FEATURE

Since images aren't terribly random anymore, I suggest future "bonus" comments use the "Send me in coach!" button to at least randomize the game. While the specific image that is commented on might not be totally randomized, it's a short-term fix until something better can be figured out.

is it possible to have more than 4 choices in rpg maker vx

In answer to the first question:

If it's five choices, you could have a Show Choice that looks like:
Option A
Option B
Option C
Next Page

The Next Page would lead to another Show Choice that looks like:
Option D
Option E

Alternatively, you could have the "cancel" case activate another Show Choice. I guess I'm saying that it really depends on how many options are being presented. If you're looking at fifty options, that's probably going to take some custom scripting.

Not sure how to answer the other question, though. I assume those games you refer to use a left/right arrow to toggle between choices. That would certainly require some custom scripting.

Update Notes (9/11/2010)

Also, Short Descriptions no longer show up in our gameprofiles. And we're limited to three lines for regular Descriptions. Don't know how you're supposed to write 300 words for a description that will only show half of them, at best.

Similar to this problem, most of the pages I visit, there's like, maybe three and a half lines of description, then the most recent blog post kicks in.

Also: No edit button functionality? That can get ugly.

*Edit: I'm an idiot for not seeing the edit button on this forum. Perception -9000. However, I'm sure I didn't see one after observing a mistake I made with a recent comment to a blog.
