What makes a great anime, for you?

Just finished High School of the Dead, it was pretty good. Way too much fan service though! I'm about to start Monster and Dead Man Wonderland, which one should be first?

What makes a great anime, for you?

oh how I hate the beach episode hahahahaha, I think that the reason that makes anime different is that they can add depth to cartoons (I say "can" cause there are some slice of life that has the same depth as western cartoons) and that turns out to be pretty interesting if you get into it. But at the end is pretty much why people see movies or read books, they look for entertainment, whether it is for having a good time or to make people think. So for me is how much enjoyment got out of it, and if it was great the satisfaction after I watched it.

For example azumanga daioh or seto no hanayome, I laugh out loud every 5 minutes, but when finished was only a *sigh* that was a good comedy, but they doesn't trascend at all on me.

Or cases were the show was entertaining but it didn't offer all the potential it had, you end with oh, this was great watch, but it could have been better, like elfen lied or higashi no eden.

So the ones that are great are ones you remember cause they take advantage of what they had and deliver something outstanding, that is memorable in a very good way, like Welcome to the NHK, Tatami Galaxy, Planetes.

And I apply this to any kind of art, not only anime.

Yeah, I get what you mean. It's true, I think the people backstage should give it all they have with their project. They can't leave anything untouched or unattended. A risk is also something that makes a great anime. For example,
L's death in Death Note, was the exact opposite of what was expected, since he was a fan favorite and basically made the show. However, his death was the catalyst for that series to turn out the way it did.

ridiculously zany antics
beach episode

the beach episode is my bet ;)

What makes a great anime, for you?

Just a regular discussion.
I'm curious as to what first comes to mind, or what people desire about an anime?

Personally, my favorite at the moment is Higurashi because of it's complicated way of telling it's story. That, and the memorable characters. The awesome, relate able characters as well! For example, I love Mion's appearance tomboyish attitude, and Rena's innocent personality. This however can change in the instant! Whenever something drastic happens, I feel it, ya know?

So there's my opinion, what about yours?

In order to look like Higurashi, the characters would first need to get their hands run over by a cartoon steamroller :P

And half of their face beaten with a bat.
How oddly specific you are.
Right on the money!
Also, the first one reminds me of Harley Quinn!

Hmm, not really getting a Higurashi vibe from the art like you are. You mean the anime series and not the VN?

I meant the VN for the most part.

You forgot to make it a smaller file silly! ^.^

I actually tried, but its the fact that Halmoore uses alot of mp3 files that makes it so big, that and the pixel movement haha
