[DEMO] Phantom Legacy Demo I
Hi.
I really like how you present your game. Right now, I am the part whereA few things irk me about the beginning. The encounters seem to be too strong compared to your character. Some monsters can take about 500-700 of your max HP. Though, it's a good thing you supplied the character with plenty of the plant-whatever they are....things for health. Another thing is that the dialogue in the beginning seems kind of cheesy. Like, the actual grammar, spelling, etc. aspects seemed fine. It's just, I don't know, maybe someone who thought the same can help me out here? Yeah, but the intro was pretty amazing, as well as the enviroment so far is one of the best that i've seen. I'll beat the demo, and be looking forward for the rest of the game.

after the citadel you take control of Nero, and you have to head to....Maldera? Something like that.

-I prefer 2D RPGs to their 3D counterparts. But they are dying due to the need to the need for tons of polygons and hi-res graphics. This is also the same with other types of games, does this make me weird?
What do you think makes an RPG?
author=SuicideAngel link=topic=2114.msg35214#msg35214 date=1222835908Aren't you the guy that said GTA: San Andreas, and Donkey Kong Country were RPGs?
A story first and formost. The story is the backbone of teh RPG, without it, it's nothing. An extension of that would be teh characters. A good RPG has to have characters that the player can attatch emotions to; root for the romantic interest, despise the villin, laugh at the inept mage, and so on. The Save System is a BIG part of the RPG, and I'm appauled to say I've seen a few otherwise excelent RPGs screw this up.
That's all that really makes an RPG, but if I were told to rate one, graphics would be right after those. It's a moot point with RPG Maker games tho. Battle system comes next, then charcater classes, skill learning and difficulty. I don't put a Battle system in with teh things that make an RPG because you can have a perfectly good RPG without any battling, Myst Uru being an example. (this is using my standard of RPG classification, if you have a problem with it then say something *politely*)
What do you think makes an RPG?
Did you happen to make this topic because of my comment on the LoZ games in "RPGs you beat" topic? Well, as far as what constitutes an RPG, I think it goes beyond what the acronymn stands for. Role Playing Game can be applied to many(if not all) games, because you always play the role of something.
I believe several things dictate whether or not a game is an RPG or not. It has to integrate a system of experience in it. *Fight monsters, gain exp., change out armor and weapons* Having life-like characters and a story that draws you in is also a key part of an RPG. Then again, some RPGs have shitty stories and bad characters, but are RPGs nonetheless. Those things just make up part of a good RPG, for the most part. They aspect of exploration and traversing across a world should also be part of an RPG. Honestly, i'm already bad enough at giving explanations. Giving a semantics lesson on RPGs is hard, because people tend to have varying views on what an RPG actually is.

RPGS... you've beaten
Music in an RPG Maker game
I'm not overly concerned with music that is ripped from commerical games. If almost every tune is popular and easily recognizable, then it does become a little hard to see around. Also, RTP music is OK, but I don't really find it's use to be too pleasing. Oh, and original means nothing unless it's good. I've seen some well-crafted custom music, but I've also seen shitty ones. Unless custom music falls into the latter, then I think it's a great idea.

LoL
LoL II
I hate to take a few points away from my nerdom list, but I dont' beat many of the games that I start to play. I'll go ahead and make a short list of RPGs that I have beaten.
Chrono Trigger
Fable
Final Fantasy VI
Final Fantasy VII
Kingdom Hearts
Pokemon Crystal
Pokemon Silver
Pokemon Yellow
Annnnd, that's it. D: The "Legend of Zelda" series doesn't count, does it? I tend to label them more of an action/adventure series, so I didn't list them. If they count, I've beaten 5 of them. That 5 doesn't include the second game on the NES, which I think actually is a RPG.

Omcifer here
Hello everyone, I just registered here(obviously). I am an 18 year old male from North Carolina(I don't like it here). I like video games, traveling, learning, RPG development, music, and many other things. I like to tinker with RM2k3, but I haven't actually made anything yet. I plan to make something soon, and I'll probably post it here. I like a lot of different kinds of music, but I don't like country and most older songs from the 60's on down. Some artists I like are: Notorious B.I.G., Queen, Hollywood Undead, Enya, Orbital, Enigma, Guns N' Roses, Sean Kingston, Moby, Tupac, and that just names a verrry few of them.
I mostly enjoy RPG and First Person Shooter games, but I like many types. My favorite RPG ever is Chrono trigger. Secret of Mana, FF IV V VI VII IX are among my favorites, but I like many others that I've played. My favorite FPSs are Team Fortress 2, Halo: CE, Perfect Dark, Half Life, Half LIfe 2, Unreal Tournament 99, and Quake III: Arena.
I'm currently in my first year of college. I will probably continue on to study pharmacy, but many things have crossed my mind. Oh yeah, and I also go by this same pseduonym at gamingw, so you might of seen me post there before.
