Just an old school video gamer who happens to love RPGs...specifically the older Dragon Warrior/Quest games made by Enix before they merged with Square and of course the whole Final Fantasy franchise (OK maybe not ALL of them since FF X-2 was complete garbage IMO lol)

Shadowgate ReBorn
A very well done remake of the original...there were a couple of parts I struggled on in trying to get the last key I needed in the banquet hall room and also figuring out where I needed to stand to search the desk in the library for the glasses, but the rest of it I knew what to do and where to go since I recently replayed the NES version a few weeks ago. The only thing missing was the time limit imposed on you for torch/lantern usage but that's something I never really liked in the original game anyway haha

Are there actual battle sequences in this version? I'm curious as to why you decided to give the protagonist HP/MP when there were no real fights per-se in the original title for NES.
PS: Sorry for the necropost

So great an adjective that it must be used twice in the same sentence!
I'm pretty sure that those are the the exact words that the Warlock Lord says to you upon entering the castle on the NES version back in 1988, so if you wanna poke fun at the overusage in the dialogue feel free to do so, but keep in mind that dialogue was originally written 28 years ago for a genre of games that was only in it's infancy lol. Games like this, Faxanadu, and Legacy of the Wizard were the most ground breaking and innovative titles we had for RPGs back in the day

That's awesome...keep me posted on when that update is finished so I can patch my game right away please..and sorry for the confusion on new game +...I saw Ashiee posting comments using that vernacular in the FAQs section so I assumed the game had it...all in all it's not a bad idea since you seemed to have incorporated the best features of all the other FF titles including the Ultima weapon fight from FFVI...why not go for broke and include new game + from Chrono Trigger? For some people that might be the only way to be able to take on the bosses in the EX dungeon. Yeah I looked at the list of town NPCs in the FAQs yesterday. I just got my airship so I'm able to track them all down much easier now. I'm having a blast now that I have my full party back. Azran and Orophin are my two heavy hitters along with Elysia and Cassie in the back row for support. I chose them for my party setup for all the buffs that they have available. Using Reis Wind, Rampart, Valor Minuet, and summoning Carbuncle which gives my whole party both shell and protect, regen, and an atk boost all in the first turn, it makes most boss battles much more manageable ^_^
I'm also really digging the in-battle party switching feature too, because I use that alot with Aeth for elemental damage when it's necessary to exploit weaknesses. I normally would use Abelia but I find Aeth to be less squishy and also cheaper on MP since I only need to use his Spellblade ability once and it lasts for the entire fight or until I change the elemental property by selecting a different one

Well it was well worth the effort in my opinion. But I gotta ask...which audio track plays when the airship is engaged? Did you go with the one from FFIV, FFVI, or did you revamp the music from the original FF? I'm seriously hoping to hear the music from the original since you guys used a revamped version of the same music that plays in the Volcano in the original FF. I was so tempted to just go on a huge FF1 binge after finishing that area and getting the Fire Crystal lol
BTW I noticed that the Mielo cave looked quite similar to one of the dungeons in FFIV in appearance right down to the entrances and exits for each floor...and the music inside it was the same as well but also sounded revamped..did you guys by chance use some of the music from the FFIV sequel that Square put out that was titled "The After-years"?

The Kingsword is just for that quest, but I will add another in as it is kind of cruel to have to trade it in, even if better stuff is available.
Grats on winning the first Kaayu fight! It is an optional win encounter, and I didn't really expect most people to win it, but it seems like folks prefer to grind a bit and beat her up! As for the second, hmm.. are you playing on Hard difficulty, or are your levels low? If the answer is no to both questions, I might have overdone it a bit on her, haha. But it seems like you figured out the winning strategy anyway!

No I'm playing on Normal, and my levels weren't all that low since after I managed to beat her, it was maybe 10 or so random encounters later during which I managed to gain perhaps a level or two and then the ! symbol started showing up blue which meant that if anything I was above the required level for the area. The problem was that rather than just one or two party members falling asleep whenever Sominus Step would go off like in the first fight, this time around it was my whole party, so I had no possible way to remove the sleep status before she would cast Dream Eater. The damage from Dream Eater was so high that even with the best shield spell Miko has at his disposal which I cast on everyone before the fight even started, I'd STILL get one shotted or have maybe one person left alive but near death. So I was like OK time to make them immune to sleep. Once I equipped those Peace Rings it was a whole different scenario because Dream Eater does very little damage when nobody is sleeping, so then it was just a matter of keeping my buffs up and making sure everyone's HP didn't dip too low and she went down fairly easily
With regard to the Kingsword, yes there are better weapons available in the game later on, but in Aquaria at that point in the game nothing else in the shops could come close, that being said, I did manage to find a Rune Blade in one of the cabinets in the building where the Auction House is located but idk as to which one is better since I had already bought the Flametongue by then so I sold it right away to recoup some of the cost lol. I'd suggest maybe lowering the atk value on it so that it doesn't seem like such a big loss to the player when they have to give it up....just make sure that they aren't able to sell it in the off chance that someone decides to dump it thinking they got ripped off by the guy who sold it to them lol.
Speaking of shops in Aquaria, I noticed that the shops changed their inventory to better gear after I finished the 3 separate scenarios when the party splits after the events in the Pyramid, so much so that the gear in the town being built is now obsolete. Where do I find people to run the Pub and the Inn and such so that my town can become bigger so that the shops start selling better gear?

Final Fantasy: Legend of Balance
I know it's been about a week since anyone has posted here but I registered here with the sole purpose of congratulating each and every one of the people here (Rydia and Ashiee I'm looking at you :P) who had a hand in developing and play testing this game because it is a MASTERPIECE!!!
Speaking as someone who has played each and every Final Fantasy game ever created aside from FFXIII-2 - The Return of Lightning, it truly feels like a Squaresoft made title. The music is phenomenal and the graphics and spell animations are fantastic for a 32 bit era style game. I really enjoy the story and the plot humor stuff too. This ranks right up there with FFIV, FFV, FFVI, and Chrono Trigger in my humble opinion, and those are my personal favorites in the FF series along with VII.
There are a few things I would like to bring to your attention about the game Rydia but none of it is game breaking like the bugs other people have experienced with regard to disappearing airships, black screens upon staying at an inn, or game crashes relating to counterattacking while casting a spell. Yes I've read EVERY comment from page 1 to 34 so I am fully aware of the constant struggle you've had in having to dig through the data files over and over to fix things so I will just let you know what I've discovered thus far since starting my first playthrough. (It has New Game+ so I will definitely be playing it for awhile lol)
Ok first of all I noticed that there is no option in the Config menu to run the game in full screen mode, nor is there a binary type toggle setting for it in the ini for the game either. I actually had to search on Google how to force an application to run in full screen since the button for it was greyed out and there isn't a resize arrow when you hover over the sides or corners. By default the game runs in a really small 3 inch by 4 inch window which compared to the size of my widescreen monitor feels like no bigger than a postage stamp LOL. Were it not for Alt+Enter, I would not have been able to play this wonderful game.
The second thing I noticed after switching it to full screen and running around Rosalia to talk to people and dig through everyone's dressers and pots for goodies, the screen tends to stutter periodically. Not really sure what's causing it but I know it isn't lag or a memory leak because the sprites for my characters are running at full speed. Thus far I've just ignored it because the game is so good it really isn't a big deal, but if you guys can fix that it would be even better.
After getting Fievel and Oro in my party I looked at their skills (As I do with each and every new person I acquire) and I noticed in the description for Fievel's Chi Blast it says "Damages one enemy with Ki" Is it Ki or Chi? Pick one and remain consistent. Most games typically use one or the other spelling/translation of the word, but not both.
Also when you get to Aquaria and can buy the Mythril gear, I happened to have a Mythril Buckler in my inventory that I picked up in a chest before I made it to Aquaria, so when I went to go and upgrade my gear I bought the Mythril Shield for all who could wear it and more Bucklers for those who couldn't. However, going into the menu under the Equip screen and hitting Optimize favors the Buckler over the Shield even though the Shield is 1 Physical Defense point higher. I know that the Optimize option tends to favor Magical Defense over Physical but this wasn't the case in this particular instance so I was a bit perplexed by that. Also it has been mentioned before, but the Hermes Buckler and Hermes Shield as Guild Token rewards are both the same price, but the Shield is much better in terms of stat gains and it doesn't follow equipment restrictions with regard to shield usage among party members since just about everyone can wear it, which makes the Buckler useless. I would either lower the price on the Hermes Buckler and limit who can wear the Shield or get rid of the Buckler entirely.
Those were the only things that I found that stood out or seemed unusual about the game thus far, and I know that to some it may seem like I'm nit picking, but I just want this game to achieve pure perfection, so that anyone else who plays it after me won't be able to find anything wrong with it at all. I downloaded and began playing this game yesterday after I got home from work at 6am after a 12 hour shift and I couldn't put it down until 12:30 and only because I needed to sleep. I'm currently about 10 and a half hours in and I'm addicted already lol.
Oh, one more thing:

Am I able to buy the Kingsword later on? Cause I really hated having to give that up to finish that quest. I ended up having to blow about 8k or so on a Flametongue from the Auction House to replace it o.O
PS: I'm glad I bought that Flametongue too since I had to go to a castle full of undead later XD
PSS: The first time that I fought against Kayuu in the mansion in Cecille I got my butt kicked so I grinded a few levels and managed to beat her by having party members who were a bit faster and also hit her with slow to be able to awaken everyone before she used her Dream Eater skill to minimize the damage taken from it. I tried that same strategy on the 2nd fight in the Pyramid and couldn't do so since my whole party was affected on every Sominus Step cast and the damage from Dream Eater was high enough to 1 shot most if not everyone, so I said F*CK YOU Kayuu!! and went back to town and bought 4 Peace Rings. No more falling asleep that time. I made her my b*tch cause she was trying to run away towards the end of the fight lmao
