I either didn't come across them, or didn't realize that's what they were for. You *might* want to do a walk- through (at least as far as equipment and spells go) to give others the chance to make different decisions as far as spells and equipment than i did. I probably wouldn't have minded some stat reduction if i knew an item healed me, or chosen differently if i knew exactly what each spell does

Come on, really? How is it my fault that you didn't read any of the descriptions?

I merely replied to your previous comment to set the record straight about something: it is not the case that Rin doesn't get the opportunity to heal in battle until the final dungeon. There are three separate opportunities to choose a healing spell, plus there are three pieces of equipment that heal Rin passively. These are scattered throughout the game in order to avoid just the very situation you imply.

You had several opportunities to choose a healing spell. I agree with most of the rest of the points in your review though. You probably shouldn't reveal the ending of the game in your post.

The healing spell i found out can only be cast once per battle

That's right.

The problem with ALL the spells is that I have to stop moving to use them (save for whatever auto spell I have equipped). Even stopping for a moment I seem to be overwhelmed with old bosses (save the one that's in the water, it can't move from there).

Something else which you may not have realised is that spells don't need to be cast with any kind of "rhythm". You can cast them as fast as you can input the combos. If you are getting overwhelmed, try keeping a distance from the enemies and quickly casting fireball. I made that spell combination easy to cast quickly.

Alas, I have found it really hard to make the battles the right difficulty. I seem to have equal numbers of people saying the battles are too hard as I have saying the battles are too easy.

If you are that far into the tower, you have just learned a really powerful spell. Make sure you look it up in the menu and learn to use it. I suspect you will find it tremendously useful :).

Got to the 2nd boss. I don't know if you did this on purpose, but you know you can't heal during battle by getting to the menu...

That is intentional. If you are having trouble with the second boss, see if you can make use of your shield spell. Also, notice that the boss tends to take a brief rest after he has cast a spell. Can you use that time to get some damage into him?

Love the game but this old gamer ain't getting very far :(

Already stuck...in the forest where you jump streams.
Can't jump the wide water and can't find a canoe or rowboat.

Anyone got a hint ?? :)

There's a conspicuous looking tree there. Perhaps Rin could use it to his advantage?

Thank you for all of your friendly compliments! I'm glad that my game is being enjoyed by actual real-life other people.

A Rather Important Question: To Switch or not To Switch?

I've never even used the pre-XP makers, but I can say with all sincerity that I love the old graphics. People get just as much hate for making games in VX, trust me. I prefer the RPGM2K graphics and the only reason I didn't use RPGM2K for my games is that it's not great for scripting.

As for being 50% of the way through your game, and considering starting over, I'm going to give you my absolute most honest advice.

Take a week off. Stop thinking about the game for a while. After that, sit down. Take out a pen and paper. Write down what it is that you like about your game. Write down what it is that you hope to achieve with your game. Take a chainsaw to anything else in the game. Reduce its scope. Reduce, reduce, reduce. Focus on what you care most about. 100% of people would rather play a short, deep game than a long, crappy one*. If you find that after you have put away your chainsaw, there is almost nothing left, that's OK. It's even OK to start over if necessary. If you leave only the things in that are good, you will have a shorter, denser, better game. Plan a strategy for how you are going to finish the game in the next 6 months. If you expect to work on it for another 3.5 years you almost certainly will not finish, and if you don't finish, all your work is wasted.

If you are 3.5 years into your game and you think you are only halfway through, that means you are going to be spending another 3.5 years on the game. That's 5% of your life. You only have the opportunity to spend 5% of your life 20 times. Think about that.

Don't switch makers. Your choice of maker is not the issue here.

*(I forget who said this, it's a quotation)
