I didn't think finding free-to-use 8-bit music would be such a bitch. I hate hunting for music in general.

What kind of music are you looking for? Like a specific kind of ditty or just in-general stuff to have on hand?
musicradar has a lot of stuff, though said stuff is more commonly used for mixes and the like instead of bgms, but a little editing would make them usable. Best part's that they're all free to use.

author=IsrieriI'm making a Dragon Quest type of game with an NES theme. I managed to pull a lot of stuff for the various areas I have planned for the game, but there are still some missing, and so far I haven't found a lot of chiptune music that has the style I'm looking for. Everyone seems obsessed with creating these super-upbeat, dance rave tracks >_<

To be more specific, I'm looking for an Overworld, Boss Battle, and Regular Battle theme. (PS I'm putting some of the music you made in MOG: Music to use, Isrieri!)
author=karins_soulkeeperThis is a good start! Thanks.

Hi, I did the Brave Hero Yuusha OST which is kinda this. If it's just a few themes I'd love to help out, otherwise I can just post some advice:
authentic NES chiptunes have 2 square waves, a triangle wave that can not change volume, and a noise channel. If you want an authentic sound, pass that along to whoever ya get to write it.

Good advice! I think Famitracker is a good tool for this kind of music in that regard, but if my joke IGMC game, Desentsu no Kusoge, is any indication, I absolutely suck at composing music. :P
Would you be down for composing the three themes, though? Send me a message and we can discuss this in detail!
I'm down for the 3 themes, PM me with screenshots and any information you think may help so I can know what kind of style to aim for. :)
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

Jesus, ccMixter is absolutely useless. Of their 26000 songs, the 8_bit tag only has 20 songs. And of those 20 songs, 0 of them are actually 8-bit. (Most of them don't loop either.) There's no 16_bit tag and no chiptune tag.
How do they have a site with thousands of free-to-use video game songs and not a single one is a chiptune? How is that even possible? I would ask in the forums, but of course the forums are down.

This dude's still my favorite! : http://freemusicarchive.org/music/RoccoW/
Kentona and I used some of these for Solar Platypus and Mirror Boy, they're really upbeat and catchy! But there may not be enough for a full game.

When it came to releasing my game, I just emailed him and asked if it was okay. It was.
Aren't you a composer yourself, Ratty? I might be able to help you in the future (I'm currently too green and busy with my own projects).
