Games and Why You Play Them
Is there really anything wrong with showing off screens constantly? This IS a game development site after all...
Games and Why You Play Them
Karsuman's* idea of an LP sounds awesome to me. Even if its a simple slideshow of pics of the game, and the author talking about the characters and such, it brings the player much closer to the world and gives them an extra amount of knowledge before diving in. It can also be a better way then making a long boring thread.
A little tileset help...
Hey man, welcome to the site. Check out the sticky up top, it has a lot of great sites for those kinds of sources.
I will go ahead and give ya a few links that might be what you are looking for.
This site is in Japanese, but just scroll down and look at the pics for reference. http://wato5576.hp.infoseek.co.jp/map.html
This is a link to a good amount as well, its a Zip file containing a lot of "Theo" chipsets, which are reguarded as being pretty good modern stuff.

Goodluck, let me know if any of those do the job.

Games and Why You Play Them
GameOverGames Productions hit the nail on the head.
If you look at some games, they have thousands of downloads. Even on youtube, different trailers have tons of views for games that aren't even that good. (Although some are impressive...)
I wish to see more people engage on these forums in the actual creation of a game, I think blogging about games is such a great idea, I wish more people did it here. When I see someone make a breakthrough, or post a new screen shot that looks great, I get motivated and energized to go work on my project.
Like GOGP said, we should find ways of bringing in more people to this site and showing them what Indie Gaming can offer.

[Critique] My Game's Story...so far.
Nice job Jason, was hoping no one would notice that! :-P
I never said he wore it, only that he had it...Part of the game will flash back and show the details of the last owner, and how this man was affected.
@Pasty: That is a pretty sweet idea actually, but I think I will stick with the ring. However that idea is pretty sweet, and gave me an idea for how the ring will affect those who are closest to the person who is wearing it (loved ones, etc..)

Games and Why You Play Them
These are great points, but calunio go ahead and list a few examples of games you haven't played and list your reasons, this can be helpful too.
Something that I was wondering, was what exactly can I do? Should I review some games, or what? There doesn't seem to be any new releases that are for 2k or 2k3.

Games and Why You Play Them
I feel like in the past few years the amount of quality games being developed has dropped greatly. This could be due to the fact that people are abandoning Rm2k3 and trying to create scripts and crazy customized stuff for other makes that in all likely hood will not be finished.
Something I have noticed is whenever I see a game in the scene that makes me want to play it, it often never actually gets finished, or not even a demo. For example, Fates of Alerha, or Sion's game (whatever it is called) These games looked great, and when I watch the trailer for Fates of Alerha it makes me wish the creator had not abandoned their efforts.
So for me, I like to see effort. This means dedication, updates, and creative thinking. Of course, I am a sucker for good mapping and cool graphics (I still love REFMAP when used properly). I think trailers are pretty sweet. A good minute video with some cool scenes gets me pumped.

Creativity: Thinking about "Experience/Leveling Systems"
I feel like most systems have already been done. Trying to come up with something brand new seems hard.
Maybe an age system? Like over-time you obtain more stats, or points.

I guess I'm back!
It's been a few years since I have touched RPGMaker, due to the frustration I faced when I lost all my work on my game due to a computer meltdown.
I am now in college and am working hard on my game again, and am very excited to try to actually *gasp* finish my game. I use to post here often about two years ago, and I am glad I have returned!
