SAILERIUS'S PROFILE

Something happened to me last night when I was driving home. I had a couple of miles to go. I looked up and saw a glowing orange object in the sky. It was moving irregularly. Suddenly, there was intense light all around. And when I came to, I was home.

What do you think happened to me?

There, And Back Again: The Long, Arduous and Mostly Uninteresting Tale of the Ill-fated Metis Engine

So the proper thing to do would be either listing the game as Other or maintaining a separate profile for the Vita version, which on one hand makes sense since it's a completely separate implementation of the game, but on the other hand, is still the same game.

Good luck in Unity! It seems to be the engine of the day, these days. I should check it out someday...

If you guys ever have the inclination, consider dropping by and writing some tutorials on the engine. It would be much appreciated!
Definitely. We're actually planning to do a series of blog posts on how we accomplished certain interesting things in the game with Unity in the near future.

EDIT: I don't suppose there's a way to indicate on the game profile that the game was made with two different engines, eh? I suppose it's not a common use case.

Vacant Sky Awakening: Paradox Prince

Should hopefully have some cool stuff to show around the new year. No guarantees, but it's all starting to come together and we should be able to let the cat out of the bag on the big surprise soon.

Whooops. Good catch. That's what I get for writing over lunch.

Don't worry, you'll learn more than you've ever wanted to know about Archons eventually. There are some tidbits in EP1 to find if you poke around in the right place.

Ooh, a mechanics question! My favorite.

Just thought of one story-related question that I feel that the Our Eternity ending (and maybe even the Vel act) can bring some clarity to.

VSA and VS1 spoilers

As I manage to compile the data from what has been released of Contention so far:

The only way someone can become an archon is by having the "archon-seed" getting passed down from a parent. So unless one of Dakura's parents' was already on archon when Dakura was born, I'm not sure how this will fit together in a way that doesn't contradict something in Contention.

(Well, one option is that Ejaro is hiding something or straight out lying, but I just can't see any motivation for it)
That's actually not the whole picture, which is understandable since you're not given a whole lot of information about Archons in VS1. What you're describing is the exception and not the rule. We'll call people who fit that description "genetic Archons" and the only people who fall under that category are

Auria and her mother.

If I recall correctly, one of the memoirs in Maladorr Manor refers to making a huge breakthrough in creating the first genetic Archon. General case Archons are created manually through an enchantment ritual and produce regular human offspring.

http://projectbc.wordpress.com/2013/12/16/there-and-back-again-the-long-arduous-and-mostly-uninteresting-tale-of-the-ill-fated-metis-engine/I want to say two things about this right now

When I on VS1s RMN-page said that I wanted more openness earlier, this is just the kinds of things that I was talking about. Personally, I'd rather have false alarms about this kinds of things than having to know about it without any forewarning at all.

And is players of Contention in any danger of getting into the middle-ground where they know to much to be able to enjoy it as new players, but not enough to enjoy it as old players.
We didn't actually make the decision that long ago. The only reason I held off on making it is because I wanted to get enough work done that I was sure we were going ahead with it before making the announcement. I didn't want to say "hey guys, we're moving to Unity" and then a month later, say "actually, it turns out that this key feature we need to implement won't work with Unity, so we're not doing it after all."

Basically, I needed to get all the most risky features working to make sure they would work with Unity.

And is players of Contention in any danger of getting into the middle-ground where they know to much to be able to enjoy it as new players, but not enough to enjoy it as old players.
I've had some Contention players run through the alpha for just that reason and it doesn't seem to have negatively affected their enjoyment of it at all. I'm confident it won't be a problem. As I've said before, the convergence of the narrative will happen later on.

Although I don't know if you're familiar, the model I'm using here is the approach taken with Fate/stay Night and its prequel, Fate/zero: players of the original game already know how the prequel will end, so the author made the the emphasis not on the ending, but how it arrives at the ending, which you don't know anything about even if you'd played the original.

EDIT: Also, in the interests of openness, the big surprise that's (hopefully) coming is the same way: it's a huge new feature that we're still not 100% is going to work, and I really don't want to get anyone's hopes up until I can say with certainty that it's going in the game.

How's the development coming along?

Extremely well. The majority of the assets are done and we've been working harder and more consistently than at any other part of the development cycle. The big remaining outlier is the battle system and the assets for it.

I'm colourblind too but don't quite have the same issue with Terra's hair, though I can see where you're coming from with it. They should've darkened the line I've murdered with bright yellow:

I'm not surprised with the sprite quality. It's the same style they started with in Dimensions, and now every mobile port/remake they throw at us has to use this shitty style. They look like crappy "watercolour" sprites with no personality or soul. I couldn't connect with even a single character in Dimensions because their sprites all looked so bland. Players of the original will be able to relate to the characters no problem because we're familiar with them already, but I'm worried that those playing FF6 for the first time won't be able to connect much with the cast because of the Dimensions style spriting.
Different expectations for different eras. The soulless, low-res sprite style of the SNES FFs also kept me from connecting with a single character in any of them (or maybe it's the subpar writing).

The new sprites also look bad, but no more bad than the originals. They're trying too hard to emulate a style that's just not good anymore.
