We Need A New Anime To Watch. Suggestions?

So, me and the missus are itching for a new anime to watch, and we're looking for ideas and suggestions.

To give you a sample of our tastes, her favourite anime is Wolf's Rain, my favourite is Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood (which is her second favourite). We both love Bakuman, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and Gurren Lagann. I love Love Hina and Negima (as manga) but don't know if I trust the animes to do a good job (she won't read manga, she only watches anime). We tried One Piece, Bleach and Naruto but we didn't like that they just keep going and going. We like the look of Sword Art Online and may well try that out.

Some other stuff that we've seen and enjoyed
- Chobits
- Code Geass
- Soul Eater
- Death Note

So, yeah, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Building On Basic Ideas

Hi guys, it's been a while since I made a game, and I'm considering dipping my toes back into the old pool - especially as RPG Maker VX Ace went on sale on Steam a few months back and it's just sat on my list ever since.

Problem is, I really need to flesh out my ideas and, I'm kind of embarrassed to admit this, I've forgotten how to. What I know is that I want a clean, futuristic setting and an emphasis on exploration and wonder. A journey of some sort would probably suit that. This journey would need to be the backbone of a good narrative as a lot of people prioritize the story in an RPG.

I've been drawing comics in my absence and I'm quickly realizing that the rules and tactics I apply to writing comics do not apply to creating an RPG. A comic is 24 pages and done, nice and easy to pace as I set what's happening when, sometimes split a story over two or three issues, reader doesn't influence the outcome, characterization is not influenced by the reader.

As soon as I go to make an RPG I notice that "Hey, the player helps drive this story" and I don't know the player. I have no idea how long it will take a player to get from town a, through dungeon b, to town c as I don't know their skill level, I don't know what build their character will be, and I don't know if the way I portray characters in cutscenes is going to fit the way someone is playing as that character.

Now, there are controls I can put in place for these things, but only to a certain degree. The player is a co-pilot, a collaborator, and I have limited communication with them. Their power stems from the gameplay and the player's interaction with the game world, the decisions that they make. Trying to predict and accomodate for this is a truly daunting task.

How do the rest of you usually move forward from this point? Where you have a bare bones basis and the road ahead looks to be quite a long and unclear one?

GTAV Crew Anyone?

Hey, anyone up for an RMN GTAV crew? Just throwing it out there, I didn't see a topic about it so I assume we don't already have one.

I Draw Indie Comics Now

Hey everyone. I appreciate it's been a while since I've floated around these parts. Day job and fatherhood committments aside, I've also started to draw indie comics. So far, I've created two comics, Arcadia (a one-shot) and Superheroes Ltd #1.

Both of them were admittedly funded using my overdraft and credit card. It's now time to create and fund Superheroes Ltd #2 and I've got a Kickstarter running to ensure that we can get the new comic finished and printed.

4 days and £350 to go. I believe we can do it! Just remember to share the Kickstarter with your friends and family, spread the word, and we'll get there!

Superheroes Ltd #1 has been reviewed by Pages & Panels, who described the comic as "a comic with fun and vibrant artwork and a solid, amusing script."

You can read the full review here http://pagesandpanels.blogspot.co.uk/2013/10/superheroes-ltd-by-sam-webster.html

I have also been interviewed by A Place To Hang Your Cape. You can read that one by following the link below

RPG Maker VX Ace On Steam In The UK (And Half Price)

Not sure if the offer is still on, but in the past week, Steam had RPG Maker VX Ace reduced to £24.99, half price. It's caused me to actually pick it up. I was quite surprised though, because whilst there was an English language version released in the US, RPG Maker's website has always quote prices in USD, this is the first time I've noticed it being officially sold in the UK.

I'm Now A Father

I know I've been in and out of this site for a while now, and I know I'm probably not the most reliable or frequent visitor of this place, but my kid's now been born, almost two weeks old. We're happy, healthy, and my little girl will probably mean I'll continue to only be able to drop in occasionally.

Thinking of Changing My Comic Pull List

For those unaware, a pull list is a list of comics your local comic shop keeps aside for you each week/ month/ however often you go to collect. I'm thinking of changing mine around a bit. On the list right now is

- Avenging Spider-Man
- AVX
- Uncanny X-Men
- Wolverine & The X-Men
- Batman
- Batman Detective Comics
- Batman The Dark Knight
- Batman Incorporated (starts this month)
- Batman and Robin
- Batgirl
- Nightwing
- Red Hood & The Outlaws
- Smallville
- Teen Titans
- Fanboys VS Zombies

Books I've been reading but aren't yet on my pull list are

- Amazing Spider-Man (been enjoying Ends of the Earth)
- Avengers VS X-Men (the fight comic)
- Scarlet Spider
- Justice League (initially lost interest at issue 7)
- Superman Action Comics

Now, I'm considering replacing Avenging Spider-Man with Amazing Spider-Man, as Avenging hasn't done anything with itself since the first three issue arc with Red Hulk. I have too much Batman and will most likely drop Dark Knight. I don't think I'll be continuing buying Scarlet Spider, even casually. In two minds about Action Comics and Justice League, and Teen Titans has severely gotten on my nerves for having The Culling parts 2 and 3 in Superboy and Legion Lost. Uncanny X-Men is gone once AVX is over.

Any suggestions? My favourite reads each month right now are Red Hood & The Outlaws, Amazing Spider-Man and Wolverine & The X-Men.

EDIT: Almost forgot Smallville started this month!

Does This Sound Too Ambitious?

There's a game I intend on making once I purchase VX Ace, working title Reasons. I've been knocking up the base ideas of what I want to do at the moment and I wanted to get your opinions on whether it just plain sounds too lofty.

The following docs are images because I like to actually write stuff out as opposed to typing it.

EDIT: Some additional information I forgot to include
- It is a time of war.
- The war is against another sentient race.

Want A Video Review Of YOUR Game?

Hey guys, as I'm sure you all know, I do video reviews of modern and retro games over at my YouTube channel http://www.youtube.com/afr0blu3 . I thought it would be nice to review some games from this community too.

I promise to be open, honest, and fair. I wouldn't be reviewing games "for teh lulz" and I'd look to provide constructive feedback.

If you want in, post a reply with a link to the game page. To start with I'm talking specifically RPG Maker 2003, XP, VX or VX Ace games.
