SHADES'S PROFILE

I read, I write, I play. I design stories and games. RPGs and turn based strategy games are my favorites.

Just started working with RM Ace, and am currently building my first game with it. I'm liking what I can do with it so far. If I manage to publish a game with it, that'll be more than I ever got done with any other game maker.

There *is* one thing I don't like about it: the lack of online connectivity. I want to make games that I can play with my friends, and sadly may find myself needing to abandon the RM toolset eventually. That's probably the biggest reason I didn't bother with it until recently.

Oh, yeah. I also dance.

WYRM WARRIORS! Design a location!

Location: The Wastes
Biome: Desert Wasteland
Character tie-ins: This is the region wherein Naalak is thought to dwell. Also contains the Temple of Garanaath.

A blasted dust bowl wherein nothing grows except the hardiest and most despicable of living things. Trees and bushes are misshapen, bearing no leaves. Any fruits borne are dark and bitter, providing little if any nourishment. Gray water tends toward a slightly greasy texture that's as likely to excite thirst as it is to quench it.

Inhabited by the Uriki, a race of desert nomads who have developed ways of living in the midst of this harsh land.

Note: Each culture bounding The Wastes will probably have a different name for it. The Uriki simply call it 'The Blasted Lands', which is an allusion to a cataclysm of fire and darkness that they believe washed over all life in the area and blasted it into its current withered and twisted form.

Village: Uriki Encampment
Biome: Desert Wasteland/Oasis

The Uriki migrate between several oases, where they have semipermanent encampments, in a rotation that allows each one to replenish its resources between visits. Around each watering hole grows a reed that the Uriki are able to use as a type of bread for food. The Uriki can use parts of the plant to filter the water and make it drinkable.

Meeting a group of outsiders, the Uriki will either share food and water, bestowing friendship upon them, or else they will kill them outright as a mercy. A slow death within The Blasted Lands is a kind of hell they would not wish even upon their enemies. If a character is so marked by the Uriki (friend or foe), any others from the same tribe will mysteriously know about it as well and will respond similarly. Other tribes may or may not recognize this.

The Uriki sometimes skirmish and squabble between themselves, but these conflicts are settled quickly by the village elders. The basis for them are usually two groups trying to occupy the same oasis village, or else a religious disagreement.

Most of them follow a god they call The Wanderer, but some occasionally call upon his nemesis, The Dark Storm.

The Legend of Gladius

*ahem*

While tweaking the game earlier this morning, I apparently set the poison state to do 50% damage per turn to poisoned characters. This was unintentional. I'm fixing it now, and will be uploading the new files shortly.

Please continue to play as you wish, just be very careful about fighting spiders and hornets in the meantime. When the fix happens, you'll be able to transfer your save files from your old game folder to the new one and keep your progress.

So sorry about the inconvenience and potential eating of the bandwidth. I do strange things when I'm tired, apparently.

The Legend of Gladius

Version 6 is up, with a handful of fixes.

The current copy is encrypted. I thought we couldn't open those?

It's some of the hornet types. They've got a poison sting but aren't using it. Same with the spiders. Orb spinners should have a web ability they're not using. Haven't had a chance to experiment too heavily to find out why yet.

Edit: Check it out. I cracked it open to compress a nonencrypted copy and wound up sorting the issue out. I think. Will have to test a bit, but I might take you up on that if I still have issues, Craze.

:D

You need to make sure your game contains something that an inept videogame blogger can make an edgy point with.

My game will contain a lot of points and edges. I don't know about edgy points, though. I'll have to think about it...

:/

The Legend of Gladius

Hello again! That is indeed one of the aggravations challenges of the early game.

The drop rates on the early monsters are pretty darn low, but they will drop some interesting stuff occasionally. You'll see more drops from the tougher monsters, but that doesn't help a brand new party, so...

One of the tricks to this is that a character's HP and MP are restored upon leveling up. Take advantage of this! With a bit of luck, you can use it to avoid inn visits for a level or two, or at least until Edrid needs to be scraped off the floor (er, revived).

When starting out, run away from any encounter in which you are outnumbered. Sometimes you can't run, so have Edrid parry (in the hopes of minimizing or avoiding damage) and Salazar attack until you manage to take out at least one of your enemies. Then have them beat on one at a time. You still get unlucky at times, but it does help. If Edrid's going to drop and there's no way out of it, just have him attack whatever Salazar's fighting and even up the odds so Salazar can survive the fight. In this scenario, I would take Salazar someplace he might survive until his next level up (near the town or around the lone tree in the corner) and then rest up at the Inn to get Edrid back and save.

If you don't have the cash for the inn, look for bandit types (brigands & sneak thieves) and run away from everything else. Do this when your party is at or near full health, and by the time they need the healing they should have enough money for it.

Good luck! Let me know how it goes.

Done -- thanks for the feedback!

The Legend of Gladius

The save function happens as an option when you stay at the inn. Later on you'll be able to access that without paying, but early on that's the way to do it.

WYRM WARRIORS! Design a character!

Keep up the gam mak! Looking forward to playing with this one. :)

2-Day DO SOMETHING Challenge!

Did a couple of characters for Wyrm Warrior and whipped my first game into a releasable form.

I have a question about that, though: I have two versions up for download. Do I make the compact no-rtp version the main download, or the fully bloated rtp version? Or does it even matter?
