SNOWY_FOX'S PROFILE

I'm an amateur composer and game designer, currently trying to turn my hobbies into a career. I've been dabbling with RPG Maker for many years, and recently also started tinkering with Godot, but I'm yet to release anything more than a small prototype.

Music is my main creative focus, and my contributions to the RMN Music Pack earned me the Judges' Choice award, and I also joint-won the Community Choice award with Miles "Kunsel" Mulet. I also contributed to and mastered its sequel, RMN Music Pack 2. I currently live in Oxfordshire, England.

RMN Music Pack

I notice a lot of people scratching their heads over the loop points thing. I've been batting the idea around in my head for some time to write some music/sound tutorials, since it seems to be a subject there are precious few guides for in communities like this, while other resources (*cough-graphics-cough*) get all the attention.

Looping would be a good starting point. It's also something I've always had a knack for, so why not share my secrets?

What do you use to make your MIDIs?

[Poll] RMN Music Pack VOTING!

Well, it seems we're past the age of duels to the death to settle disputes and have to compromise these days. That's cool too! At least now I have someone to brofist.

*Gives Kunsel a massive brofist* ^^

The harsh truth is, XBuster, music gear is usually ridiculously expensive. That includes music software. There are free programs out there, but they tend to be nowhere near as user-friendly as their commercial overlords. As a compromise to encourage people to give music a try for more than a month, most DAW developers have started releasing "lite" versions of their software to help people who aren't sure about making the financial investment just yet.

MIDI has been a standard format for musical instruments (and software) since the 1980s, so you'd be hard-pressed to find a solid program that won't let you import and export MIDI files. So I'd say have a look around, try some programs out and see what you find best.

I personally use Reason, which finds a good middle ground of ease, versatility and reliability. You can find it here, there's a month's free trial under the Downloads section.

Other popular options include FL Studio, Ableton Live, and Cakewalk Sonar. There are also higher-end ones like Logic and ProTools, but they're not really designed for newcomers and are way up there in record-deal-budget territory.

Ack, I should have specified! I meant synth bass! *Paws ineffectually at bass strings* How do you drive this thing!? Is it velocity sensitive? Does it have aftertouch!?

I choose our weapons: bass. Let the wubbing commence!

RMN Music Pack: Court Composer Revealed!

Omigosh omigosh omigosh omigosh omigosh!

I can't even. I'm absolutely gobsmacked. I won a thing!

I have to say, though, Happy, I couldn't have polished those tracks quite so much without your feedback. It's been great to have an extra pair of knowledgeable ears (or three, in most cases) to spot out faults in the mix and to really make the music shine. The achievements were the last thing on my mind - I just wanted to contribute some good tracks. So receiving this is pretty special. Thank you.

I just wish I'd contributed more than, on average, a track a month. I would have been able to do much more if I wasn't so distracted by other stuff. Next time there's an event like this (and I intend to keep an eye open), I'll totally be there, and hopefully I'll be able to focus on it better and make more music than I did here!

EDIT
Also, thanks to everyone else for your congratulations. I'm a little giddy right now so I don't really know what else to say. ^^;

[Poll] RMN Music Pack VOTING!

Just out of interest, Happy, just how many minutes of audio are there in this thing? It's way bigger than I was expecting when it started. =D

RMN Music Pack

This has been an awesome event. Great fun, and some great work by all involved. Well done, everyone! I'll be watching to see if we have any more events like this in future.
