RMN Administrator Status

Hello folks,

Couple of comings and going ons. Firstly, I have returned after a short hiatus due to temporarily relocating for training at my new job. (Cheers)

Second, kentona has been promoted to a site administrator. His tireless efforts to increase activity at RMN, whether out of dedication or insanity, have not gone unnoticed. Commence with blaming him for all of RMN's problems! (Boos)

Lastly, in the admin reshuffling iishenron and Trihan has been removed as administrators. Those two folks are very classy, but are very busy and not able to contribute to the site as much as the position entails. Here's hoping they finish their respective projects (Queen's Court, Tundra) and have more free time to participate in the future. (Cheers)

Generica - [RMVX..?]

The admin problem is now solved. The mighty Holbatron is back. Citizens, please resume sending me your tributes as per our previous agreements.

Deader than usual?

The reason there are not many forums is because there is not enough activity to justify having them. We also said when the activity goes up we will add new forums based upon what is popular and needed. Right now we should probably remove forums.

Deader than usual?

I assure you that #rm2k is the most racist chat room on the planet.

I've been posting every day, so nobody can accuse me of not caring! I even uploaded my old game, against my better judgment.

The only racist person in #rm2k is iishenron, and strangely enough he's black.

That's funny, because of a special offer through Wal-Mart this morning... for only $250 per person, I was offered a free all-expenses-paid vacation to Mexico.

Free as in beer!

Honest Question

I think kentona is dead on, though I would disagree with him on which games he picked from different series.

Tetris is a timeless classic that spawn countless clones. Its gameplay has remained practically unchanged yet we still play it today. I think maladroit's Citizen Kane analogy is very fitting here. It's no longer the shiniest but without it many future games would not have existed, like Meteos, Lumines, Hexic, etc. Practically the entire casual game market for that matter.

By casual games I don't mean your grandmother playing the Wii, I mean your girlfriend playing Bejeweled on your computer all day, barring you from logging on to WoW.

]Hey I heard you were going to be the next Alex. Man everybody went and did so well for themselves while I was away.

I'm the macaroni with the cheese.

The forums have been lifeless recently, though they have started to pick back up in the last few days. Brickroad is off somewhere being a dick. He abandoned #rm2k because they weren't being elitist enough or something. Rumor has it he's given his soul back to WoW. He'll come back. They ALWAYS do.

...believe me. I've tried. =(

What have you done recently?

I had a fairly exciting day yesterday.

I was waken up at 8:00am with a phone call from the vice president of recruiting for the small regional retailer that has been interested in me. He made a substanial offer, actually meeting my salary from Wal-Mart with incentives that could end up giving me a 50% pay increase. They offer slightly better benefits and better hours as well. Oh, and a better reputation.

I had to call around and cancel some of the interviews I had set up, one of which I had only made yesterday. It was for a larger national retailer that everyone would recognize. I was supposed to meet their distict "coach" in Davenport, Iowa at 6:30pm, which is about a 90 minute drive.

The catch was I promised my daughter that I would take her to the zoo while in Davenport. She has been begging me to go to one. When we lived in New Orleans she went to the zoo 3-4 times a week since we had a season pass to it. I wasn't about to tell her no so we made the trip anyways.

We got to Davenport at about 12:30pm. We decided to hit the zoo first even though we were staving since it was only open until 5pm. Big mistake. The zoo was the smallest thing I had ever scene and was almost devoid of any sort of exotic animals. My daughtet spent much of the 90 minutes we were there playing with an awesome little goat who was dancing on the table. Good thing the admission was cheap.

We left to go find Red Lobster to celebrate my new job, but we ran across Toys 'R Us and the mall first. I got seperated from my wife (while looking in GameStop) and she proceeded to spend $80 at Baby Gap for clothes for my daughter. This is on top of the $50 she spent at Toys 'R Us. Didn't take her long to get back to her old spending ways.

We finally ended up at Red Lobster where we spent $70 on two meals. We left around 5:30pm and made it home around 7:00pm. My wife went to visit her mom and I went to spruce up my blog and chat on IRC. When they got home my daughter and I watched TMNT until she fell asleep. Cowabunga, dudes!

Web Browser

I've used all of them as my default browser for lengthy periods of time, but I've been using just Opera since they released v9. I used Internet Explorer 6 until Mozilla Phoenix came out. I stuck by them through Phoenix, Firebird, Firefox, etc until they decided to randomly delete my intricate bookmarking system every so often for no reason. Opera has been a godsend (thanks WIP for the suggestion)!

I also used Internet Explorer 7 when it came out. The new features it adds are better served in Opera or Firefox, but I am happy that they fixed some of the html/css rendering issues (though it is still far from perfect). It used to be you had to code two versions of your site - one for IE, and one for everything else. That isn't the case anymore.
