Changing your screen name?

I think this thread has run its course.

Changing your screen name?

Hah. Wow, some people are a little too excited about a slight possibility of getting their username changed. There won't be any yearly username change events or the ability to change usernames amount of times per year. This type of thing will be extremely rare with no formal system in place. It can be a pretty big hassle on the administrative side as well as being confusing for everyone involved. One of the things I liked least about the Gaming World forums was trying to figure out what the "flavor of the week" username was for the admins and mods. Honestly, I am still have no idea who was who.

Changing your screen name?

Oh, it's never broke anything in the system to change usernames. It was just annoying to handle, and also it was abused. Some users changed their RMN username simply to "bump" their games on the game page as they used to be sorted automatically by username. We'll consider these on a case-by-case basis.

PLEASE CHANGE MY NAME TO xXx~gEoDuDe~xXx

I was going to do this as joke but then you wouldn't be able to log in unless you figured it out.

What's the new Featured Game?

Shinan, it says right on the game page in bold letters and a larger font that it requires SMBX installed to play and provides the download link for the engine. I'm not a big fan of or expert on SMBX but it still wasn't difficult at all. That is not excusing it not having instructions in the download, however.

What's the new Featured Game?

To be honest what bothers me more is that the game isn't standalone (I think) and thus shouldn't really be featured at all ever no matter how good it might be.

I don't think that alone should ever preclude a game from being featured. In fact, it is not even unusual for some engines to require it (RTP dependent games, and Sphere used to require the core editor be present -- several others as well). I have always been an advocate for making games as standalone as possible but in this case it is what it is -- a fun Mario game that requires the core package to play.

This also made me remember back in the day when I used to get criticism for only posting games that included the RPG Maker 95 game.exe. It was standard practice back then to simply zip up the project folder and distribute it without the gamedisk or the game.exe file to save space and bandwidth in the 56k era. Ah, nostalgia.

RMN is not closing down, but...

All of your game data and such will be moved, though some of the really bad stuff will be pruned after launch. Right now it's just the forum content that is disappearing immediately and honestly I am not sure of that is worth saving.

RMN is not closing down, but...

Shinan you are correct in that there were only a couple of folks on that side of the aisle and even I disagreed with their positions. But they weren't being offensive or non-constructive and they were hung up for having an opinion. Disagreements shouldn't mean it's open season to start personal attacks, even if it's out of perceived loyalty to a friend.

Anyways, back on topic.

RMN is not closing down, but...

It's for the best folks. I never like the whole "Propelo" vision but I am not willing to let the site sit stagnant. I am a lot more open to removing the forums proper now since we can't even discuss donations without attacking each other. Expanding to more genres and engines will also bring in some much needed new blood.

On a side note, the new arrangement will also bring my good friend Brickroad back into the fold and anything that he is involved in is awesome in by book.

Wait, so the site is going to be shut down for 2 months?

Yes, the time will be needed to migrate the RMN data into Propelo and prepare for the relaunch. There are a lot of forks in the code since I took over (thanks ankylo, kentona).

What's the new Featured Game?

Your dissatisfaction is noted. Carry on.

For the record, Eyes Without a Face was strongly considered, and it was delayed only to feature it during a month that strongly corresponds with its theme.

What's the new Featured Game?

I decided the featured game this month against the better judgment of my colleagues who kept evading the discussion of Mario vs. the Moon Base. It's brand new, fun, and had a few nominations here.
