What Videogames Are You Playing Right Now?
Hello, now that there is an intro section
Welcome more Sphere users! Hopefully the three of you (Radnen, Rhuan, and yourself) can provide us with some insight on the inner workings of the Sphere engine, or at least provide us with some more games.
Fun fact: WIP originally learned how to program due to his initial interest in Sphere a decade ago.

This is pretty cool. At first it reminded me of an old PC shareware game called Exile (now called Avernum), but only because both deal with life in a subterranean prison of sorts.
Final Fantasy VI Esper Configaroation
I enjoyed reading it as well. Come to think of it, I suppose I do a lot of similar things in games I play -- though I do so passively. I've certainly never taken the time to commit it to writing like that! I typically try to ensure the characters I am building are "canon" in the sense that they fit within the established guidelines of the game. In Dragon Age: Origins, for example, I only chose class specializations that match the character's history and personality if at all possible. This was often done at the expense of more powerful class builds. Wouldn't have made much sense for my heroic noble Warden to also be a reaver who tapped into Avernus' research. Though I suppose that didn't stop him from pursuing Morrigan...
As far as Final Fantasy VI is concerned, however, I beat the game as a kid and spent too much of my time grinding in the dinosaur forest or whatever and getting everyone to Lv. 99 with all spells learned from Espers. I definitely couldn't handle that these days.

Earthquake in Japan
author=Emanzi
Yeah the tsunami really hit hard, the earthquake was just an appetizer I don't think anyone could have been prepared to be served that hard. I think they might build huge tsunami proof domes or something I don't know... Japan has its way of innovating themselves to a whole-nother level. This could be the start of rebuilding an even stronger east coast.
Apparently some citys and towns where nearly un-affected, those must be some really strong earthquake resistant buildings.
I recently read an article in the New York Times about some of the innovative mitigation measures Japan has been using to lessen the impact of an earthquake or a tsunami:
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/03/12/world/asia/12codes.html?_r=1
I am particularly interested in these types of things. However, they are typically only found in newer buildings. Also, no tsunami proof domes... though they do have a lot of buildings meant to withstand a tsunami and allow for a "vertical" evacuation.

Glad to hear you're safe Canuck. Honestly, your current status was one of the first things that crossed my mind after I witnessed the devastation on the news.
