I can't be of help with the programming, I'm sorry to say.

The offer still stands though to help out with face graphics for the party, converting your enemy drawings into coloured designs, the title image, that sort of thing (so I guess secondary aesthetics - not stuff as important as the maps, tiles, sprites).

some things:
- why the similarity between the names Papan Zin & Papantzin?
- have you got a rough idea of the entire story, not just the prologue/events before the start of the game?
- what engine is this in?

Now that I think of it, I can't really help out with the writing/story as I have other stuff to do. (I should have been more thoughtful before I posted that earlier - sorry!)

I can't help with battle stuff/stats either, as I don't know much about it, definitely not enough to advise someone else. So I don't know how difficult or simple it would be to implement the kinds of abilities you're suggesting.

So... yeah. You'll need someone else around here to tell you how feasible the battle system and other mechanical things in your game would be.

If you're interested about the art stuff for when it will be more relevant/practical, I could do some mock-ups of party members' portraits or the title, or w/e.

I could really use any help I could get, so the help with coloring the enemies face graphics and other such things would be great.

As for you questions:
1. I liked the name, and it was relevant to the character
2. Yes I do, I just don't have it organized into proper chapters and such yet. Especially the parts with Itzpa being playable.
3. So long as it can show both sides in battle, and can also support in battle dialogue as well as the roaming encounter system, I am not really picky.

You should put those images under a hide tag, they're really damn big.

Aside from that, what exactly do you want help with? I'd be willing to do graphical stuff (by that I mean facesets, monster design, that sort of thing, but not tiles or sprites) or writing, stuff like that.

Give some more details, there are a lot of aspects of game design so you should be more specific about the ones you're able to do, and what you need help with.

I could use feedback on the story, and some help designing the enemies, but I guess the main thing would be if someone who knew how to program could help with that. I have half an idea how to do music and spriting, and it would probably be best to see what is technically possible before going to far with anything else.

Holy balls, dude, shrink your images before you post 'em! That shit's gigantic!

Yeah, I realize that now. Aside from that, do you have any other comments or questions?

Ok, some more on the characters, and I'm trying to figure out which ones I should keep.
The peasant name not fixed, but temped name is cacticac
-either male or female, but they are the relative of the New Flame. Overall, they are a Jack of all trades, and is going out mainly to save their sister. Abilities are based on reciprocating damage and countering.
The chef Papan Zin
-a female chef from the royal court, who has become the New Flame's friend for her ability to work with chocolates. Is coming with as she has a knowledge of herbs and can use her knowledge of fire and cold in battle. Abilities are based on fire and cold, though she can engage in close combat.
The scribe Papantzin
-one of the many temple scribes, who was kicked out for showing a book of their kings "exploits" to his students when he was drunk. Is coming with to regain his old position, and can bring the characters from his books to life. He is a full blown glass cannon, incapable of taking damage, but more than capable of taking out most things quickly.
The Illusionist Suarez *(not sure of)
-part charlatan, part priestess, her knowledge of incenses and drugs are second to none. She is coming with for the money that it will bring to her, and can poison and screen her enemies. Based on damaging the enemies over time, weakening them, and strengthening her allies.
The knight Ah Puch
-one of the prince's warriors who was killed in a duel with the prince and left for his peasants to take care of. Is coming along so that he can convince the prince to marry, and allow himself to final die. He can take and deal large amounts of damage, intercept damage for the other fighters, and even has a regenerative ability owing to his status.
The Hunter Mix Coalt *(not sure of)
-The silent type, in the service of one of the nearby princes and is given to them in recognition of their help. Not exactly all that helpful
The Herder Kon *(not sure of)
-A man cursed by the gods after he escaped from the underworld. He managed to bring with him a horn that summons any animal he so desires, but he's too cowardly to use it. Is more than capable of helping his allies or attacking, but he is also very squishy.
The acrobat Trachten Buch *(not sure of)
-A female log juggler (yes, that is a real profession they had) who has run away from a lesser noble. Focusing on doing rapid attacks that build up on top of each other to deal higher damage. Also good at dodging attacks or countering them back onto the attacker.
??? Zarma
-I know exactly who this is, but they will be a secret character that is optional.

Aside from that, here are some thoughts I was working through:
Stats:
Power (additional damage added to basic attacks)
Resilience (the characters ability to resist damage)
Agility (the characters ability to help land attacks, dodge, and fill the combat meter)
Wisdom (additional damage added to special abilities)
Armour (a percent chance at ignoring damage, based on the equipment the character has)
Health Points (amount of damage they can take. At 0, they die.)
Ability Points (depleted each time they use an ability)
Combat:
Meter based,as it fills up according to the character's Agility. When full, they can do one of these things:
Basic attack
-The character uses an attack that is based on a combination of their power and weapon.
Special attack
-Uses an ability, the stronger attacks use more AP, but also consume more of the meter, even occasionally locking it up for a turn on the strongest ones.
Use Item
-...self explanatory, though it only uses half the meter
Dodge
-temporarily increases speed, and only uses half of the meter. By doing this, it increases their accuracy, chance to dodge, and the rate the meter fills, for the next two times, but consumes ability points to do so.
Guard
-temporarily increases resilience and defense for the next couple of turns. Uses up all of the meter and a large chunk of Ability points.
retreat
-A chance at escaping combat, which is actually not necessarily a bad thing to do. Leaving combat gives the player time to stop, heal their characters, and do other such things. The damage stays on the enemies, but, given how the over-world works, if they get touched within ten seconds of escaping, then they will be ambushed and have their meters locked up until they are either attacked (which deals extra damage in ambushes) or three turns pass.

Is there anything glaringly bad about what I have said so far? Aside from that, I have the story, I just have to figure out how to organize it...so...this...this is going to be a bit unorganized.
Prologue
-meet the New Flame
-organizing friends (and Papan Zin) into a team, so allows the player to figure out how to organize their party, equip items, etc.
-enter the flower war, allows the player to experiment with combat and learn some of the basics
-attack by the soldiers of the Prince, teaches the player how to retreat, as they can pretty much one shot kill their friends.
-watch the regular warriors die as they try to rescue the New Flame (Itzpa), unveils they are undead
-(Papantzin) joins the group after convincing the player he wants to join
-learns that, in order to gain undue the immortality of the Prince (or at the very least, his subjects), they have to go in person and convince the patron gods of those princedoms (stuck between using the aztec four directions{especially since it fits in incredibly well) or the 5 elements) that they have to undue their curse.
Chapter
-wanted there to be be about 8-12 of them, with their being some of them (or as a transition) staring the New Flame (Itzpa) in her captivity trying to figure out how to escape.
-the gods
--one requires the player to duel with them
--one requires the player to bring an artifact back from an abandoned temple
--one requires the player to solve their riddles (answers found by talking to other people)
--one requires the player to kill the territories prince, as they are not honoring them
-aside from that
--find ??? (Zarma), help ??? (Zarma)

LockeZ designs boss battles for you

It definitely sounds possible, and interesting to try. Can you describe exactly what the perks are? Does your game handle it any differently than a typical Final Fantasy / Dragon Quest game?

The game is still in the concept phase of things, and I don't have an engine picked out yet. I was leaning more towards a final fantasy type engine for the combat, as I like the cinematic side more.

These are all broken image files for me. I can't see any of them.

...damn gods it, you're right. Is there any place her I can post them, or would I have to post a game too?

Noche (An RPG idea that I am running through and looking for feedback for)

Well, I managed to make some sketches for the characters, so I hope that these can at least show what I'm trying to do. I have them divided into:

LockeZ designs boss battles for you

OK, I am not sure I wanted a boss designed for this, yet, but I was thinking of having a tutorial boss that teaches the player the perks of running away from combat sometimes. I do not know how good of an idea that is, but it is something that I at least wanted to know if it was possible.

I can accept that children outside that one kingdom/nation wouldn't be affected. The ones inside of it, though, those children would, presumably, be immortal.

Which is what I was trying to get at with my previous post. Sorry for not making it more clear!
That is true.
But there is only ever one New Flame at a time. And, seeing as the New Flame has a built in lifespan, choosing an immortal to be the New Flame would go against the whole point.

I have some sketches done too, I just have to figure out how to get them online.
