So, I'm making an RPG of the morality play Everyman.

Square Enix loses all sanity, announces Final Fantasy 13-2

It's my opinion that anything after 7 and the first FF-Tactics can be sealed away forever. And I had to strain to give 7 a chance. (which I was glad I did.)

8 and 9 are pretty much the same as 7. I never played anything after 9 so I can't speak beyond that.

Gotta be careful with the remakes... Like the old man used to say, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".

There's another saying "if your not making money off it anymore, remake it". The other remakes only improve the games otherwise untoched by new gamers because of the old shitty graphics. But those first few games were kinda broken...

The one on left kinda looks like a girl. Mostly because of the eyelashes. The posture and facial expression gives off that look of disgust I've only seen in a woman's face ^.^;

I like the one on the right (and not just because the other one is girl :)

Battle_Demo_IV.JPG

Nut shot! It's hard to make out the different colors on that nuts-kicker because not everything is outlined with a black line. Mostly in his head/face.

Is that a gansta cowboy? xD

Battle_Demo_II.JPG

Ian is so tiny compared to the others! haha What's on his head? It's all solid white, I can't make it out at all. Look's like a pan of eggs fell on his head, maybe?

That tree monster has weird coloring. The ninja is cool.

The grass and dirt doesn't tile well, imo. It forms weird shapes/patterns when I look at it as a whole.

Rotating Menu Ring

Well when your using the ring, does everything else pause? That would make it easier, plus if you use screen relative x,y values it wouldnt matter. It might look messed up if you bring up the ring and then moved the hero.

I would think you just have each icon a separate show picture, and when you press Right/Left a common event checks what icon it's at and moves each picture in the proper direction depending on which icon is highlighted.

Just have a variable that tracks what icon your at. 1=items 2=equipment 3=magic...

Have a conditional branch. If (that var) = 1
Move picture 1 - x,y (up-left, it was highlighted now moves to the side)
Move picture 2 - x,y (down-left, it's next in the list so now its highlighted)
and so on for however many icons you have in the ring

Have a branch for each icon position. You could just show 3 icons at a time, use transparency to hide the icons that go out of view, or something.

That's how I'd code it. It might be possible with some kind of system that determines the x,y position of each placing in the ring and moves picture to that spot. Sounds complicated o.o I'd want to keep it simple. Besides, once you finish one of those branches you can copy/paste it then just change the main variable and the picture number in each move picture event. The x,y values will all be the same for each icon at some point. Easily mass produced.

*hmmm, actually, just thinking about this, it might not be as easy as that. unless the ring will always be displayed on the same spot in the screen. if you want it to appear over the head of the hero where ever they may be...you would have to create a system like kentona mentioned.

you could use a show picture to show the stationary ring of icons, and use a battle animation to make it look like a moving ring of icons, then you could show it anywhere on the screen. you'd just have to create a small system to find the x,y above the hero. just use a single variable to track what icon is selected. a common event system to track pressing left/right, accept, cancel. then branches for each outcome.

rmn icon top left

This was brought up months ago.

WIP said something like "I thought it was like that already. I'll get around to fixing it"

*You can make a bookmark, have the bookmark toolbar visible in your browser and place a shortcut to the main page in the area just above that logo in the corner. Rename the shortcut to be blank and it shows as just a small logo.

OR you could just open all links in a new tab and always have a tab open with the main page.

Graphical help.

Did you want feedback on the map or map and the textbox/portrait? I can barely see the map so a better screen would help.

I don't know your back story(and im not really interested in it) so I don't know what kind of look your trying to achieve. This kind of request is awfully familiar. You introduced this image without telling anyone that it is shaped by the story, so it's only natural that we wouldn't know about an explosion. Still, those reason's need to be fully thought out. If there were explosions on Earth right now, that is not how things would look. If the blasts just happened, there would be dirt and rocks. If the blasts happened months ago, it would look pretty much the same. If the blasts happened years ago, it wouldn't look like there were ever any blasts. Things would regrow and take on a very natural appearance. I would be more convined that there were explosions if I saw less trees/flowers, more dirt, and rivers with large parts where a blast happened and the water just filled it in.

Another thing, it looks strange to see a body of water with a tiny tile of water sticking out. Like below the word "have" in the text box, and under it, and slightly above it, and the one to the right of that.

Those paths of dark grass do look bad.

It all comes back to this not looking natural. Even in the aftermath of blasts, this doesn't look natural. Things that look natural and organic will be more pleasing. Jagged edges and lines of stark contrast running through the maps looks random are generally regarded as bad design.

The fact still remains, I can't see enough of your map to judge a damn thing.
