How can you activate a battle event after your battle command?
author=kentona
where is craze when you need him?
upgrade to any of the multiple engines that are more powerful
please & thank you
(i thought this was implicit in my response that it is literally impossible for 2k3 to accomplish his intended battle system as-is)
How can you activate a battle event after your battle command?
author=McBickauthor=NewBlackThere are many things I want to do. One example would be to add passive skills to my characters equipment, giving my character a 20% chance to cast lightning every attack. If I could figure out how to activate battle events after a battle command I could add many more features to the normal dbs.
Hmm.. What do you need to happen after an attack or skill?
when actor uses the attack command
if actor has ightning sword equipped
set variable X: random number 1-100
if variable X <= 20
damagey stuff here
end
end
the problem is that the DBS has NO WAY of instantly 'casting a spell' or applying elemental damage whatsoever. You can only do nonelemental damage through "Change Monster HP" and your designated variable, so you won't ever really be able to cast 'Lightning' in this way.

A simplistic feel is good, but these look almost... sterilized, what with the perfect symmetry. You yourself called it bland! Earthbound was simplistic, but one of the most iconic visual styles in gaming. You can create atmosphere without overcomplicating things by just adding some bushes and dirt, and a soft sunlight overlay in the right color to fit the mood, for example.
In any case, I'm glad you're considering feedback. Don't change the basic concept of your graphical style, but be very aware of the thin line between simple and bland :)

Good spelling, good grammar, and a grasp of how to properly highlight dialog...?! Impossible! IMPOSSIBLE, I SAY
Third Crown of Progwyn
You have some strong concepts and reasoning behind your intent for this game. However, your mapping is incredibly bland and boring. That's not to say it's bad per se - it's just extremely basic. You have no glaring tileset errors, no egregiously mismatched rips or edits, etc. However, you also have nothing interesting. Your forest consists of... one tile of grass, one type of tree, and cliffs. Maybe add dotted-line dirt paths? Some bushes and undergrowth to complement the trees? It hardly looks like a forest at all. It looks more like a canyon with some trees dotted in. The same thing goes for maps like your tavern. It's a completely square building standing in the middle of nowhere. :< I highly suggest you check out some other projects on the site, because you have a lot of promise with this game!
Favorite videogame world.
author=Pokemaniacauthor=VersaliaThis is one of the many things that FFX-2 absolutely ruined, and it's pretty unfortunate. I like it when a game gets you to care as much about a temple or ruins as you probably would if you were there(well, okay, exaggerating there a bit I guess but w/e). When I saw what they did to Zanarkand in X-2...author=gRaViJaI actually loved Spira. The visual design team was STELLAR. The architecture, the fashion - everything is in the same visual theme, but has very distinct flavors in every single major city. Even Kilika's residents look different from Besaid's residents, despite both being relatively rural island communities (but both share 'islander' types of fashions). Favorite areas = Macalania Woods, Guadosalam, Bevelle.
Some people have said it before and i as well like the world of FF8 a lot for some reason. And what about FFX's world, Spira? I can understand people didn't love everything in the game, but the world was pretty awesome i think.
Not only that but what they did in FFX-2 was just a lazy excuse to not change ANY of the mapping. (That campfire you lit 2 years ago? yeah, still burning in the same spot with tourists standing around it.) Although Yuna was pretty peeved about the whole thing too, and then she... did a monkey sidequest... to keep the tourists from being driven off...????? Yeah, let's not pretend X-2 made any sense.
Oh and Darken: YES. YES YES YES. SOTC world was stunning, and I can't believe I forgot it. I'd like to add to your observations that there are no other living creatures in that world, either, except for the occasional lizard, you, and your horse. I don't even remember fish or butterflies.

author=geodudeauthor=LockeZi don't think the advice "be more like VX tiles" should be anything other than thrown into the sun
You might also want to show some underground wall at the north edges of the holes... I don't know how to describe this. It looks like the ground is paper-thin. The hole should sink off to blackness but it should take a couple pixels to do so, and have visible darkened wall at the top. Like VX tiles. Make sense? Didn't think so, oh well.
I don't think that comment was helpful to anybody
lockez: despite(?) using VX tiles as an example, which is a totally valid example, that is solid advice (makes sense to me)
Calunio: Much better! Are the grated doors a little vibrant, though..? Make them a more muted off-white, nobody will know the difference.
