Some people have said it before and i as well like the world of FF8 a lot for some reason. And what about FFX's world, Spira? I can understand people didn't love everything in the game, but the world was pretty awesome i think.

I actually loved Spira. The visual design team was STELLAR. The architecture, the fashion - everything is in the same visual theme, but has very distinct flavors in every single major city. Even Kilika's residents look different from Besaid's residents, despite both being relatively rural island communities (but both share 'islander' types of fashions). Favorite areas = Macalania Woods, Guadosalam, Bevelle.

He's a fake Siamese, I'm not sure if there's a term for it. He has Siamese coloring but is just a standard short hair, with none of the sleek styling of a Siamese ^^

Siamese tabby or other siamese mix. I had a cat who was 100% siamese colored, blue eyes and everything, but he had long fur.

can you tell I have WAY TOO MUCH time on my hands at work

Open-ended dialog responses

Radnen makes a great point - some people really relish in that kind of feature, using it to increase their enjoyment of the game as a form of depth. LockeZ's point is also completely valid - I turn off battle scenes etc in fire emblem as well; if you've seen it ten times, you've seen it for all of freaking eternity. However, some people do choose to leave them on, which is why it's a toggle.

It's making me think you should just have either option. I have no issues allowing open-ended responses for people who want to have that kind of flavor saved in their Sent Folder in the game, but REQUIRING them is the misstep here.

Calunio: those statues have some impressive dongs. Make them shorter so it looks like generic bulge instead of swinging peen.
I'm willing to bet they're meant to be exactly that way.

If it's meant to be that way, more power to you, but I am getting a distinct lack of "gigantic dong" from the rest of the room. Please make an entire dungeon around the central theme of "generous endowment" and I will play this all day

@Deacon:
Yeah, like I said, the retro style is a style choice. The quality of the map is not.

Since tilesets and map layout are both 'visual styles' let's replace references to those terms with "appearance" in your statement.

... "The appearance is a style choice but the appearance is not a style choice"

It wouldn't look quite like an old-school game if the mapping was changed too dramatically. It would just look like most other games but using a comparatively shitty tileset, as opposed to actually making people think "hey that looks just like Dragon Quest."

edit: FIST, I love your avatar zomg so cute

Calunio: those statues have some impressive dongs. Make them shorter so it looks like generic bulge instead of swinging peen. I'd also try to use a color that contrasts differently with the red floor. The walls look great but the statues fade into the red floor a little bit because they are red-purple.

Other than that, I recommend adding some darker red into your red floor - it has a nice feel too it, but if I look directly -at- the floor, it needs one more color of depth IMO. Also you can see the rows of tiles because of the squiggle pattern; try to make the tiles actually "tile" more - see how, if you look up the vertical column that the "entrance" to this room is at the bottom of, you can clearly see 'blank' red lines with no lighter red squiggles breaking them up at all?

Otherwise, A+ work, I love the theme and it feels very HOT and LAVA and DEMONIC

What's so interesting about it is how storied and detailed it is, the universes world is so big that every country is big enough to have entire games centered around them, and every piece of land, every character, every dynasty, kingdom, etc etc has its own background and line of important figures and important dates and all of that.

Ogre Battle universe! It spans decades across different continents, with some characters being seen more than once due to their involvement in the story/international politics, and the continents even have their own personalities (Mermaids and fairies only appear in Lodis, etc).

Just the toppers actually looks fine! Otherwise, full-cave. I wouldn't worry about adding too many curves because it's obviously been 'carved into' the cave or something ;) what with the tile floors and beds..

totally cave walls, unless you want to throw up a comparison shot of just toppers vs. full cave wall

I love AE's idea of showing the arrows in the gap instead. Also, those arrows are really difficult to see with this screen tint... they blend into the ground tiles...
