Carpe Diem: Episode One

I'll check it out and if it's up to snuff, I'll review it for ya... I will say one thing though. DITCH THAT DOWNLOAD SERVICE! I had to try 10 times to download your game and kept getting POP UPS OF DOOM! I'd suggest Megaupload, but really, anything is better than the one your currently using.

Information regarding Monday's demo.

Looking forward to it!

Need a review?

Yep, I'm trying my hand at reviewing, but if other reviewers want to join in and review a game or two, please, go right ahead. In fact, it's my hope that this becomes an unofficial reviewers thread. Though... I don't know how far I'll get with it.

I have set up some OPTIONAL rules to follow and reasons why said rule exists. No one need follow my rules and I might break a rule or two under a special exception or two.

Rules

1. I'd prefer if the game you have, doesn't already have a review. Hence, the main reason why I this thread is up in the first place. No, this does not include a review on another site. If it's been reviewed on another site, I will still review it here.

2. I won't review Canceled or Hiatus projects. Sorry guys, but if you have put the project on the back burner or if you have no intention on finishing it, there's not too much of a point to review it.

3. After I've accepted your game, I will need at least 48 hours to test your game. I won't post my review here, but in your game blog on RMN so all can see. Please, don't ask me every ten minutes if I posted a review in your game, if I said I'd review it, I probably already have and am just waiting for the Admin Gods that be to work their magic.

Sai Plays Your Games

You know... we should get a reviewer forum going like they have at RRR and have a few people who like playing games a lot, have a reviewer title. The only basic rule could be that if you want to keep that reviewer title, you need to review at least one game per month.

Oh, and I would like a review of Ebon Scape, but I have yet to release a newer, fresher, grammar/spelling friendly version. It's also a demo, but it's 99.5% complete. So if you review it, keep in mind I'm already working on those issues.

(It does have slightly more than 15 hours of gameplay, which is huge for an RM2K3 game too.)

To protect or not to protect, that is the question!

No, just play it. You don't have to COPY the maps, just learn from how they're made, right? Just observe them while playing.

Yeah... but that just gives you a small picture, there are a ton of other things at work here that you need to know for that map that are not reviled in a simple walk through.

Such as...

1. Is that graphic an event?
2. What animation pattern does it follow?
3. Whats the setting for the background?
4. Is that animation a battle animation or picture... or a combination of both?
5. How did he/she set up the picture animation?
6. Whats the basic eventing look like?
7. How did he/she set up the menu? What graphics did they use? Pictures? Panoramas?
8. How did he/she set up ALL the maps? (Which would be quicker if I didn't have to play through)
9. How did they set up the cloud system for the overmap?
10. What did they do to set up a scrolling BG for a battle scene on a train and the train doesn't scroll with the BG?
11. What custom systems did they use for the random battles?

The list goes on and on, so I do not protect my work because I like to have people actually MAP CORRECTLY, and my way helps quite a few people out. It also teaches them how to make custom systems by following some of my examples. Even learn how to set up scrolling battle scenes. If you want to protect your work, it's cool, but for cripes sake, help them map and event! (sniff) Please, think of the noobs! lol

No, seriously though, if you want to protect your work, it's cool. I prefer not to though. Even if the work would be my own, I'd still like others know how to use it correctly. People are going to do it anyway, no matter what security you place. (even those pesky XYZ files are easy to crack.)

Oh, and as far as copying them goes, taking a screen shot and learning from them, isn't copying. It's the best way to learn how to map now that more and more people are setting up custom EXE files.

I am a strong supporter for this because, for the longest time, after Ebon Scape was released, (a few years ago) a lot of people downloaded the game, but mostly for the resources... :( They never really took the time to learn how I mapped, they basically, didn't play the game. So I saw project after project that used the same resources, but looked like crap. Really, I saw RTP mapping look better. These resources are HARD AS FUDGE to map with, probably the hardest you'll ever encounter for RM2K3. If people took the time to open my project, looked around, they'd know the best way to map from these sets are through example.

It's really how I learned, the original artist was kind enough to allow me to download a few of his sample games (literally, they were called sample), I couldn't play them because they were in Japanese, but I opened up the editor, and learned from his examples. That's really how I learned to map for the very first time, Ebon Scape would never have gotten this far (I wouldn't even let it be downloaded in the previous noobish state it was in) If he wasn't kind enough to let me have his sample games. That's why I spread the editing love around I guess.

Need a Battlechar generator for RM2K3

Meh... Not that some of these suggestions are great, but I have a graphic program. (two actually as I wouldn't have gotten as far as I have in the past without one). I was hoping there was something like the Charas Generator that I could download and use. It would save me a heck of a lot of time as I wouldn't need to build from scratch.

(WARNING: LINK PROVIDED HAS MAL WARE, I'M USING IT AS AN EXAMPLE FOR A LOOK WHICH IS SAFE, BUT USING THE PROGRAM WILL LAUNCH ITS MAL WARE WHICH WILL MESS THE FUDGE UP YOUR COMPUTER!)

So your saying I should open that link multiple times?

Sure, and get hit with so callled virus your computer has, BUT FORTUNATLY, we have an anti virus program that we'll install for free right now. it's a scam and it's not safe, you can open the link but don't use the Chara's Generator. I'm just using it as an example, as I don't have any others that I can provide right now.

I normally don't ask for help, but when I do, it's after I've already looked around for one and am currently out of options. I am looking for something I can Download that's got a decent amount of options to it. Something like the char's project, Link here: http://www.charas-project.net/charas2/index.php?lang=en&generator=3, but I need something downloadable, and offline.

Okay... seriously, let's get back on topic. When do you think this game will be complete and released, Rei?

ZOOOOM- how to increase the ATB speed in 2k3 to insane levels

...
Yes those are the two methods, hacking it up, or just changing messing around with the agility in the Database. I'd choose the latter, but it seems your doing some heavy duty stuff, unfortunately I can't help you. I draw the line at hacking up the system, mostly because if I had to hack the system, it's really not worth it. Your using it for one game, that maybe a few hundred of people might play, they'll comment more on the graphics and presentation of the game, and that little hack you took days to figure out won't even be mentioned. If it was mentioned, it would probably be as an afterthought.

Not trying to crush your spirit on this, but somethings are too much and are just not worth the hassle.

Though, if you absolutely have to go that route, then... I'd have to admit this even though I love RM2K3, but... Get XP for that. THERE, I SAID IT! At least XP has scripting and the graphics are finally getting to a point where the game won't look like an RTP mess. (If you look for the right resources, that is)
Click on my user name and then realize your rant was entirely pointless, I was doing this to mess around and wasn't really going to release anything. I was making this because I didn't feel like programming since I'm already doing it all for another project.

Yeah... normally I just read the topic and post, silly me for not doing that extra step. 8P
