Who needs help?

How about you hook yourself up WITH a game engine? There are a few freewares out there, though I think the best one is RM2K3. (Yes, I know it's not freeware, but it's been pirated so many times that Enterbrain simply gave up trying to police it, instead they made 2 whole NEW engines, that... I still consider iffy at best. Though I will give a shout out to XP, because it's finally getting there in terms of graphics.)

Here's a link to RM2K3

You'll need the RTP (run time program) (it has the basic resources for the game, you actually can't run RM2K3 without it)

Download clicky is located at the bottom of the page.

OR if you have $30 you can pick up a copy of XP, OR if you want to have the latest, RM system out there, there is VX for $60. (though, I DO NOT recommend this system, Craze will obviously point out that even though VX has exceptional blocky like graphics, it does have more colors than the 256 color pallet, a better scripting system, and an unlimited tileset. (about freaking time) I will not recommend this system for the one main reason. Which is, I don't like the way VX looks, I just don't, it looks too blocky. Even some of the custom graphics look blocky for it. It's a personal preference though, and in the end, the choice really is up to you.

I will recommend you try a trial of the XP and VX, and try the free RM2K3 system and base your decision on that. If you decide on going that root of picking up a RM gaming engine.

Of course there are others out there too, Game Maker Lite, Sphere, Verge, Toolkit (if its still around), and Ika to name a few... though I have tried them... I'm not really the person to ask about these. I've only dabbled in them a bit actually, but I'm sure others who know those systems well are on RMN and can give you the 401 on those if you'd really like.

ZOOOOM- how to increase the ATB speed in 2k3 to insane levels

You've got an averaging formula and everything, somewhere in there is some calculation you can change to make the final average exaggerated (which was what I was looking for actually). Where it loads the number of players and enemies, have it load just 1 or something.

At least tell me where in ASM it starts adding up people's agillities, I could mess with it myself if I only knew the location for the block of x86 code that did that. You would be right in assuming you can't drastically change the algorithms, but you can fiddle with them.

Yes those are the two methods, hacking it up, or just changing messing around with the agility in the Database. I'd choose the latter, but it seems your doing some heavy duty stuff, unfortunately I can't help you. I draw the line at hacking up the system, mostly because if I had to hack the system, it's really not worth it. Your using it for one game, that maybe a few hundred of people might play, they'll comment more on the graphics and presentation of the game, and that little hack you took days to figure out won't even be mentioned. If it was mentioned, it would probably be as an afterthought.

Not trying to crush your spirit on this, but somethings are too much and are just not worth the hassle.

Though, if you absolutely have to go that route, then... I'd have to admit this even though I love RM2K3, but... Get XP for that. THERE, I SAID IT! At least XP has scripting and the graphics are finally getting to a point where the game won't look like an RTP mess. (If you look for the right resources, that is)

Your Star

I like the fact that XP is really getting up there in terms of graphics, and more and more games no longer look like RTP mock ups, I will definitely download and play this game!

If this was made in 2k3, you automatically fail your goal.

Sorry.

Some of the best games were made in RM2K3, and almost half are on RMN, (many of which are constantly being submitted in RM2K3 as well) so don't hate a game because its RM2K3. Hate it for another reason, that's all I'm saying.

Not really defending the game more as I'm defending the maker... Not sure I'd like to play this game either... sorry. My flavor is for more serious style RM games, if I try this game and give my comments, you may not like them.

Best RM Games you've Ever Played

This isn't an advertising thread. This is for listing RM games that you enjoyed playing.

Ye might be referring to me as well. Though I did enjoy the game, I felt, that since it was controversial I needed to explain my reasons for enjoying it. I took the links down though, just in case. Me no wanty trouble.

What are you working on now?

New Character sets for my game... btw... I'm looking for a face generator and a battle character Generator (If a battle character generator exists that is) for RM2K3, anyone got a few good ideas?

ITT we tell the poster above us why their favourite game sucks

It's an MMO, do I even NEED a reason why it would suck?

Unlimited Saga < not really a favorite, in fact I hate it, just want to see if anyone has the same rage against this monkey feces as I do. lol

To protect or not to protect, that is the question!

I don't understand. You don't have to open the game in the editor to check the maps.

How else would you do it? Take a screen shot of every section of the game?

What are you working on now?

Well... ok. It's not like using the DBS is the worst idea ever, it's just that I didn't expect it from a game that looks so original and customized.

I think what really scared me is how bad the system graphics clash with the rest of the screen. You should work on new system graphics.

Well yeah, that was an issue I'm having too, it's gonna get changed.

I am a big proponent of sharing resources, especially rips/edits you compiled but did not create. I think even sharing original resources is a really good thing to do.

I tend to at least TRY to protect my own projects, not because of resources, but because I feel uncomfortable about the idea of someone altering my work in the editor and redistributing it. It is more of an attempt at version control.

See, I don't even protect my work. Why? Because people need to learn how to map, and how are they going to learn how to map by just playing the game. I personally, took a bunch of samples, put them in Ebon Scape to use as a reference (players can't play these samples) because the chipsets I used were just too hard to toy with. This was how I learned, I based it off of what the work was originally intended for.

If more people did what I did, we wouldn't have as many projects poorly mapped because people would know HOW to use those maps properly. (mapping is very important to me) Though I did add a Copy Right to my work, so that is a tool you could use if your that concerned.
