WHITELION'S PROFILE

You may remember me as YoshiJRC. I've been around a long time with little to show for it. But I mean well!

What do we remember?

I can't remember how I first learned of RM2K... it was 10 or 11 years ago, and I downloaded it and messed around with it a bit before realizing I had no clue what I was doing. So I searched for games other people had made, for inspiration, and that led me to the first Blurred Line demo. I fell in love with it pretty much immediately. I attempted to find out more about it, which led me to Don's forums which I hung around for the next few years.

Aside from ABL, some other games I liked back then were Tales of the Wind, Tyrant God Saga: AP, and Three the Hard Way (which is still probably my favorite RM game).

Little things that can ruin your day?

canker sores.

They can ruin several consecutive days, in fact...

Which game was the biggest disappointement for you?

4's plot was somewhat important to 5, since the Plagas sample Ada stole for Wesker was used in a new virus in 5.

Has anyone ever done a Grandia-style battle system in RM?

I guess the ability to cancel your enemy's attack if you time a critical attack right is what I find most interesting about it.

Which game was the biggest disappointement for you?

RE5 was a bit disappointing after the awesomeness that was 4, but pretty fun still if you had a friend to play with. 1-player was too annoying.

Has anyone ever done a Grandia-style battle system in RM?

Any version of RM.

I only just started playing the first Grandia a little while ago. Never played it nor its sequels back in the day. I've been enjoying it, and the battle system is one feature in particular that I find impressive. It's simple, yet still holds up well against battle systems in RPGs nowadays.

So yeah, has anyone ever done it in RM? Is it even possible? I'd think it would be... A reasonable facsimile, at least.

Which game was the biggest disappointement for you?

Lunar: Dragon Song. Easily.

For a Lunar fan (to put it lightly) like me, it was just a massive cocktease. Lunar fans had been awaiting a sequel for years, and news that the original artist was designing the characters and that Game Arts were overseeing development gave us high hopes. Despite these things, the game really couldn't have failed harder at delivering a satisfying sequel. There's no excuse for that battle system. Ugh.

Looking Back: Legion Saga Series

I remember these games well.

I also remember buying into all the hate surrounding them and hating on them just 'cause it seemed like the cool thing to do.

Now that I'm no longer a bratty, immature teenager (instead I'm a slightly less bratty, slightly more mature adult), I can admit that they were pretty fun Suikoden rip-offs. Not the best plot or characters in the RM community at the time but not the worst either. And hey, the dude completed three rather lengthy RM games while most other creators couldn't even finish one. Kudos for that.

Nintendo quest!

Even if you fix Link's white background, that picture of him is done in a wildly different style than the Ninja Turtles characters... it just looks awkward. Oh, and then there's the detailed Ninja Turtles attacking a cutesy drawing of the Shredder. Funny, sure... but for all the wrong reasons.

That Hyrule castle screen is kind of a mess too... mixing NES sprites with SNES-quality tilesets is never a good idea. You should at least consider using a Link sprite from Link to the Past or Minish Cap or Four Swords.

Best RPG Boss Battles

Myria is basically an overprotective mother with the powers of a god. Dangerous combo.

I like the theory that BoF IV is the first game chronologically and Myria is one of Lord Yuna's creations.
