YEASTER'S PROFILE

Hi! Thank you for peeping at my profile.
I like making modern-themed games. My first game, Onyx, was made in 2006, when I was a senior in high school. So it's pretty ROUGH, but people seem to like it? Total Chaos is my personal favorite, but it has some, erm, issues, too. Mystery Man Zero is coming you guys, I haven't forgotten about it. A full-game will come out even if it takes 10 years. Oh gosh, I hope it doesn't take that long, but you get what I'm saying, right?
Right now, I am also working on A Nightmare in Sunnydale, a horror genre mesh-up fangame, if you will. I also like playing games. Actually, playing RPGM games is legit one of my favorite pastimes. *insert smiley here*
When I can fit it in, I do a little bit of Gatekeeper as well, a sci-fi fantasy about a team of god-lite forces, Gatekeepers, who have to protect the dying Earth from forces they don't even know about.
If thou think they can take it, download some of my stuff!

What are you working on now?
I love VX but eventing does seem to take forever, and I don't even know why. I thought it was just me, though.

Scary Movie
Scream pokes fun at the horror genre, but it soooooooo not a parody. At least not on Shaun levels.
I look at Shaun the same way I look at Zombieland. I consider both of those flat-out comedies that just happen to feature zombies. Neither one is scary in the least, but they're both hella entertaining.

How do you tell if a game is bad?
^I think I know what you're saying, and yeah, during the early stages of the game, I do keep playing because I see the potential for things to be great. Things may not be "all the way there" yet plot-wise, but I do see how the game is currently trying to set up the storyline, the characters, subplots, etc, and I play to see how these things will unfold as I progress through the game.
It only becomes a problem for me when -- 10-15 hours later -- the game is STILL in the same place and not much has happened storyline-wise. I'll keep playing for a little while in hopes that things will pick up...but eventually, I'll just say "fuck it" and move on to something.

How do you tell if a game is bad?
If it works differently for you, more power to you. I need to keep playing a game in order to truly assess how good it is. I will never find that out in just an hour, relative to the game's total playtime, especially if it's a 50 hour RPG.
I absolutely agree with this 110%.
I don't think I can ever bring myself to quit a game after the first hour unless it's so irredeemably awful that the creator might as well have spent five minutes on it. I like to play the game AT LEAST until the halfway point before I decide whether it's "bad" or not. A lot of the games that I love and cherish (RM or commercial) have had less than satisfying starts, but the more I played them, the better and more enjoyable they became.
If I had quit them after the first hour or so, I would have less out on a lot of awesome games. I just don't think you can accurately assess a game (especially a long game) in such a short time period...unless, like I said before, the mistakes are glaringly obvious (such as dialogue ridden with spelling/grammar errors, IMPOSSIBLE random encounters that you have no way to prepare for...etc.).
Craze's Let's Play! Topic
I always find it hilarious that the people who are the harshest on RPG Maker (and its games/fanbase) are people who actually use the program. If the number of "good" projects are so minuscule...then what does that say about your own projects? ;p
I've seen and played through a lot of freeware games, and the ratio of suckitude is about the same (depending on the genre).
