YEASTER'S PROFILE

Hi! Thank you for peeping at my profile.
I like making modern-themed games. My first game, Onyx, was made in 2006, when I was a senior in high school. So it's pretty ROUGH, but people seem to like it? Total Chaos is my personal favorite, but it has some, erm, issues, too. Mystery Man Zero is coming you guys, I haven't forgotten about it. A full-game will come out even if it takes 10 years. Oh gosh, I hope it doesn't take that long, but you get what I'm saying, right?
Right now, I am also working on A Nightmare in Sunnydale, a horror genre mesh-up fangame, if you will. I also like playing games. Actually, playing RPGM games is legit one of my favorite pastimes. *insert smiley here*
When I can fit it in, I do a little bit of Gatekeeper as well, a sci-fi fantasy about a team of god-lite forces, Gatekeepers, who have to protect the dying Earth from forces they don't even know about.
If thou think they can take it, download some of my stuff!

"Customer is always right" - taking feedback
Personally, I'm extremely appreciative of the feedback I get and I definitely apply 95% of the suggestions given to me.
But of course, like someone said earlier, you can't please everyone and there will always be that one player whofucks up ignores hints or fail to take advantage of the advantages that the game provides, and thus will take out their own mistakes on you/the game. I don't pay attention to comments like that, though thankfully I don't get a lot of them.

That's precisely what I'm doing. =)
Although I do have the boss battles in there just for fun, but I may take those out, too.

That's true. But TC is pretty outdated, so if anyone finds playing it a bit too tedious but enjoyed the story and would like to see more of it, they can -- at the very least -- watch it online and not have to slave themselves any longer.
Not that 'Total' is "unplayable" (personally, I love it), but I digress. I'm cutting out the actual gameplay, so if someone watches a couple of the vids and decide they want to give it a shot, they'll still have plenty to look forward to.

That, and I just want to. Not that I will be uploading everyday mind you, just when I can/feel like it.
It's really not anything to think too hard about. =p

>New Game
I think I misread the topic. I assumed the op meant intro as in "all-of-the-scenes-before-the-first-dungeon"...I didn't know you meant the INITIAL introduction scene.
*stoopid*
In that case, I don't think those should ever be too long. Break up the scene with some action (character controllably) and that would suffice for me, providing that I'm told specifically where to go.

How do you tell if a game is bad?
When I play hour after hour of the game and absolutely NOTHING has happened, or if the characters have too many genre/anime archetypes, and they come off feeling a bit "deja vu."
Also, if the battles are ridiculously hard and the game refuses to give you enough to money to buy yourself enough items and equipment to properly prepare yourself.

I really think it depends on what kind of story you're trying to tell. Some game like to start off with insta-action whereas others like to be spend some time settling up the mood, atmosphere and the basic plot before throwing the player into a dungeon -- and to me, both are fine. In a lot of the games that I enjoy, it took 15-35 minutes getting into the first battle.
I do have a lot of patience though, and it takes a lot for me to just quit a game (commercial or otherwise), especially during that first hour. Some games just have a slower start and I don't see anything wrong with that, providing that it is NOT filler fetch-quests and you are actually using that time to establish your leading characters and setting up the (initial) storyline.

YDS' Let's Try Thread
I haven't tried EP yet, I did play Ephiam's Boss Project, and yeah, mashing spacebar = auto death. He really does force you to use your status-changing spells. Admittedly, it can take a while to adjust, but I didn't find the battles to be too hard/slow, especially since he rewarded you for taking risks (Charming a boss? That will never work -- oh snap, it does?!?!)
But that was a different game...
