Most of my spare time is taken up either writing music or drinking beer (pilsner) with a friend and going over our great idea for a RPG story. Whether we will ever have enough time to make it into a game is another question, but if we do we'll put it up here.

The RPG Music Challenge
Dictionary says:
a wistful desire to return in thought or in fact to a former time in one's life, to one's home or homeland, or to one's family and friends; a sentimental yearning for the happiness of a former place or time: a nostalgia for his college days.
Other forms such as loss, anger, regret, fear etc I wouldn't class as nostalgia. I would agree that nostalgia can make you feel sad, due to the fact you miss the time you are recalling, but as the music is for a 'nostalgic flashback scene' I would expect this to be set during the happy time in question.
I am happy to be proved wrong though, as I absolutely suck at writing happy music.

Remember that the theme is about happy memories.
Agreed, whether it's memories of childhood or an old flame, nostalgia tends to imply idealized memories.
I realised how old FFVII was when I fired it up on a 42" plasma a few years ago, $pixelation++; (mind you, it wasn't as bad as Xenogears)

Interesting theme for phase 2, and quite a broad one too so I'm looking forward to hearing the entries. I have to up my game for this phase, the quality of the first phase was pretty damn high.

What the heck did you MP3ers use to make your songs? Anvil sucks, and midi is a pain in the somethingsomething.
For this submission: Cubase, EastWest Symphonic Orchestra, Yamaha P90.
I also use Reason 4 and a bunch of other VSTs but not for this submission

My Vote: Entry 11
Other favorites
13 - wouldn't even realise it had a 3 instrument restriction - very well done
16 - very FF-esque, could have been my top one if it lasted a little longer and progressed a little more
21 - If this wasn't a lava temple theme, this would be right up there, great BGM
23 - same as 21

When will the result of the voting for 1st phase be released? Because if the vote for my first phase is horrible its a waste of time to work on second phase. So it would be a good idea to release the vote result asap.

Also, will the next phase be announced tomorrow or does it start after the voting for phase 1 is finished?

The details state that the end is 01/09/2012 11:59 PM, so I'm assuming midnight tonight. I think also I saw one post saying UTC, so just under 10 hours left!
30 entries is pretty epic, looking forward to hearing them all
Edit: Although to me 01/09/2012 is the first of September so loads of time left.
Edit: Edit: Finally got mine uploaded last night(?), probably should have given myself more time, and not sure how 'lava-y' it is but great fun

Dude, for a start I could be completely wrong, so don't take my word for it. And one VSTi layer I would have thought would be fine. The approach I'm taking is that if I had done it in midi, the midi export would be three channels only, as it turns out I probably won't do it in midi, but it will be made up of three channels. I'd better make sure I submit something after all of this...
